Waving really hard to Tink. I be missing you dear niece!!!!!
Sorry-I worked outside the last 2 days in negative windchills, so I have been tired when I get home-not even enough energy to read:(
Poor baby. You do need a rest and some warmer weather! Oops what am I saying it is already in the 30's and dropping here. Take care of yourself and stay well.
Makes me feel better Tink as I miss so much when I get here I just jump in.... Nice to see you....
Hugs,
Susan
Susan are you feeling any better? This constantly changing weather is about to do everyone in this year!
Good evening to all....I survived two, 4 hour round trips for 1 patient today from home to the VA and back again, got the Wheelie washed as well as my hoist as they were coated with salt...I mopped the inside deck while the boys did the outside, then back to get my patient and take him home...Then another 2 1/2 hour round trip to Indiana and back, and finally fueled up and turned in paperwork and home...AND I have to leave here at 5:30 am again tomorrow...and to think.. I Hate mornings... LOL
Ulv Judy!! Beautiful gifts !! Bet you are sending lots of Smoke tonight eh??
Kathy....Creator saw the many prayers in the Smoke for you.... I do not know your Pot dance, but will this one do??
LOL... silly fairy lips... I don't have to read the recipe to him, he reads fluent English too... thus, he's reading his textbooks... duh...
Good suggestions... I'll start gathering things like that.
Marion... he was pretty hungry... I made homemade pasta tonight.. and doubled the recipe from what I usually make for just Don and I... I had NO leftovers... then he had brownies and ice cream with Don just now. Growing boys have to eat, ya know.
Heck... Jaye's cats are braver than I am too... I think I'd just hold it if I thought I had to go out in all that white stuff.
ROFLOL BJ--think not!! Sooner or later you would take a walk in the light white powder! Funny looking at the pictures of the kitties. I loved the one of Jaye.
I would say he is enjoying your cooking too BJ. Brownies and ice cream, oh my, what I wouldn't give for some right now but I am being a good girl for a change. I know Don is enjoying having a "son" around for awhile. How is his traveling right now?
Well, Marion... he got home late last night from Houston... off today... and leaving for Tampa tomorrow morning again... his travel hasn't changed a bit... my life is a bit frazzled right now... but everything will find a new normal again soon.
Dusty that one is perfect!!!!!!! That is sooooo the pot dance!!!!
Weather....we have been in low to mid 20's at night....the dog and cat both give me the LOOK in the morning...."no, it is warm here, we don't Want to Get Up, get the house warm and THEN we will get up..."
Marion, I love Cherries too, that is why I am so glad I can eat a lot of this dessert, not just a little spoonful!!
Take care Stacey.....can't have our niece getting sick......been too much of that going around already!
Back to the News Reports, then off to Spin Class....:(
I just watched Beyonce sing the 1st dance and get misty eyed-I have been crying myself for the last few days off and on-I either have PMS or something else going on....today they are tears of joy:)
That is a very old photo in front of the huge bonfire....with the drums beating...
May I present the Legend.....
Many, many years ago when the Earth was still quite new, there was a beautiful butterfly who lost her mate in battle. To show her grief, she took off her beautiful wings and wrapped herself in a drab cocoon. In her sadness, she could not eat and she could not sleep and her relatives kept coming to her lodge to see if she was okay.
Of course she wasn't, but she didn't want to be a burden on her people so she packed up her wings and her medicine bundle and took off on a long journey. She wandered about for many days and months, until finally she had gone all around the world. (To this day, butterflies go on long journeys, but that is another story.)
On her journey she kept her eyes downcast and stepped on each stone she came to as she crossed fields and creeks and streams. Finally, one day as she was looking down, she happened to notice the stone beneath her feet, and it was so beautiful that it healed her sorrow.
She then cast aside her cocoon, shook the dust from her wings, and donned them once more. She was so happy she began to dance to give thanks for another chance to begin her life anew. Then she went home and told The People about her long journey and how it had healed her.
To this day,The People dance this dance as an expression of renewal, and to give thanks for new seasons, new life, and new beginnings.
The shawl in the Fancy Shawl Dance represents the butterfly's wings, the fancy steps and twirls represent the butterfly's style of flight.
It is a Happy Dance and done with precision...One foot must always touch the earth at the beat of the drums...All women may participate from the toddlers learning to the elders who can barely walk but can still dance to the drum...
BJ, tell Michael that we say "He's Da Bomb"!!! Lololol.. maybe you could start a book on American slangs and colloqualisms for him. That will make a uniquely American gift!! Yah, start with "Howdyyyyyyyyyyyy".
Niece, I am so sorry you're not feeling great. Must be all that nasty weather. When you're having the blues, call one of us. You know we'll get you laughing in no time!! Yah, I watched Beyonce rendering Etta James' "At Last" and she was perfect for that song. Go America!!
Trisha, tell your friend thank you for that recipe. I am not a cherry fan, maybe I'll change it to something else.. But I'll try it definitely this week. Soup was delicious!! I added some white beans too, and some provencal herbs. There's enough for lunch tomorrow. Didn't do any cornbread, but had it with toasted potato bread.
So Maid M... that's what you had for supper. As for the kitties, having 3 in the house are enough. The other 6 are perfectly contented living in Kel's workshop. But it was funny watching them 'studying' the snow and looking for grass!!!! Please stay indoors tomorrow. Your knees won't be able to withstand any cold outside. I know.. I had to fight the snow almost all day, and now my joints are suffering.
Yah Judy.. can't you tell I "love" the snow?
Dusty, I love that legend. Thank you for sharing..I'll pass that on to my nieces and nephews along with the photo.
Say niece, go look for a stone and maybe you'll be able to shed that cocoon, have a renewed spirit and be happy forever after ;)
I am off to be but want to answer your question... Yes I am feeling better thank God... I still have sinus and I lose my voice when talking but my lungs are clear and I stopped hacking up my lungs....LOL The weather here is now cold but I think they said we are going into the 40's by end of week... You are right this weather has everyone in Danville sick... I am not joking either....
Work tomorrow if road are pretty good so off to bed as I need all the beauty sleep I can get...LOL
Hugs,
Susan
Susan, sleep well, be safe on the road if you had to work tomorrow!!
Have a good night rest everyone. I'm sorry I can't hang around for any duration. I just pop in every so often to check on my sis. Jaye. Thanks all for the warm welcome, bid me farewell. When I miss Jaye too much, and she isn't visiting our home forum, the Mid-South forum every now and then -- that's when I'll pop in here. 'Til then. Farewell.
Kim from Al.
Marion, the only potatoes I have are frozen country fries! Not to much of the chili anyway!
I went to an Indian Pow Wow at Loretta's Dude Ranch one summer. I loved all the dances, and watching them make fire with flint. I was working at W*M at the time and I waited on several of the Indians. They were mostly friendly and informative. I also saw them maake bread in a ground oven, and got to try some of it.
Ladies, I am off to bed, and trying to get my sinus' clear. They said the Mountain cedar count, was like 4000 today, and everyone is going nuts, with allergies and such!
Linda
Thanks for popping in! Come back anytime Kim!! You're always welcome here. Some of us can take expert advice on growing better plants from you. I've been very involved in crafts lately as you've read.
MidSouth is a very large family, can't believe you miss l'il ole me :D Love you too Sis Kim ^_^
Audrey, I had been to 2 Indian Pow Wows back in Louisiana. I love the costumes. Once dated a Blackfoot Canadian back in Singapore. He's very mild mannered until he touched that 'fire-water'!
Night dear LK. Gosh.. that high pollen count can wreak havoc to your sinuses.
Hi Tiga!! Crissy, Tiga in the Indonesian language means 3.
Tiga's beautiful, is that her favorite hiding place?
The 3 we have in the house each has their own fav. spot. Somehow they respect each other's spot.. how uncanny.
I have another pic of me at a Pow Wow some many years ago in my all white Deerskin dress, shawl and knee high Mocs...All very heavily beaded and fringed...They were my honor as being Clan Mother...I will see if I can find it in my files later on.. It isn't a very good pic, but you can see the dress pretty well...Our Culture is steeped in so many traditions, and so many wonderful stories...I shared with my Sister Cookie Joyce an email from one of my Clan Daughters about a relative of ours... I will see if I still have it ...
bj as it stands right now, I get to come. DH wants to get me a pop up camper, so I can stay right near your house. Would that be ok?
Cathy
Please look for it Dusty. Had you seen Judy's wedding dress? She got married in a white deerskin, and she looked like an Indian princess.
I am fascinated with anything linking to native Indian culture.
Dusty you should be a professional. Just gorgeous!
Love the placemats! Those are gorgeous!
Mid South keeps track of everyone very well. I don't know how they do it, it's amazing.
Jaye, I did not know that! I chose to name her Tiga because she was striped and I wanted to name her Tigger, but being female I couldn't do that, then Tiga came to mind and I have never heard of another cat or anything else being called that, so that's how I got her name, she was 3 weeks old.
That was our towel closet in the bathroom of an apartment we lived in for 6 months when we first moved here before we bought the house. She doesn't hide very often, most of the time she just goes to bed, literally, she will go to a bedroom and cover herself up and go to bed. It's hilarious.
3 is my favorite number. I'm the 3rd born in my family, everything I do has to do with the number 3 whether I mean it to or not. I'm also born on the 3rd day of the 11th month, now my cat means 3? That's really cool but weird at the same time!
Ok, this is really getting weird.
I was born on the 3rd day of a month.
I'm the 3rd child in my immediate family
It's always been my favorite number
My cat's name, who I named almost 13 years ago means 3
My address has two 3's in it
Now I'm getting technical. I wonder if that Jockey we met is number 3, now that would be really weird! Maybe I ought to bet on that number, never have before. huh
Jaye you got me thinking...
I have a ton of more pictures of her but the one I want to show you is on the computer at work, so I'll post it first thing in the morning, before I catch up on the threads.
Look what Tony Stewart has done with his favorite number, 20!
Night night everyone! I get to go back to work tomorrow, which I am glad because it's too cold to do anything else and I am Bored in capital letters.
Well Crissy, if you've collected data and the stats say 3 is your lucky number... think.. is your DH #3?? If not make sure to remarry him again, and make it the lucky number!! Lol!!
Well, good night sistahs and lively nieces..
This is the email...
Three eyes was not in truth her name, but what was respectfully whispered by those who spoke of her, honored for her dreaming ways, and her spirit speaking.
How old was hard to tell, as not one peer remained to say, tiny and
wizened, face that looked like dried crab apple, but so gently was her every word
spoken.
A cook whose fire was never empty, healer whose touch was cool and loving, a smile that could warm you on the coldest day of winter, so loved was this Elder.
Set apart was her warm house, her summer home a cave above the valley, always open was her door to any who came seeking, none questioned her connections.
Such stories she would tell of the past of our People, how many young girls she has taught to carry forward our history, spell bound her words would leave you.
Why now a council called, why question the vision she is sharing, why when
in all her years she has yet to be misspoken, can it be fear alone that
turns the People from her?
What she tells is horrifying, of ghosts who come into our lands with fire and thunder, who command a magic so far beyond our knowing, whose thirst for blood will leave us decimated.
All the Elders are speaking of the winter she has passed, kept to herself and mourning as if her only child was dying, crying out against the dreams Great Mystery is showing.
The whole village hears her whispered prayers, begging that this not be so, that her beloved kin will not soon be dying in great numbers, a sickness first that no medicines can wipe out.
No more stories told of a past filled with might and glory, no warriors brave and true, no more beloved woman, no sweet tales of tsisdu trickster and learning good behavior.
Death and war are all she speaks blood and despair that will claim our children forever, and such strangeness she tells of a race of white skinned hairy monsters.
It must be the leaders say, that she no longer is whole minded, too long she has walked in both worlds, too many times the spirits sought her, they could not believe their whole world was ending.
Prepare she cried, be aware that what comes can not be diverted, swarming like the locust they will swallow whole the earth before them, leaving for our children nothing.
It is Mother Earth herself these others will be claiming, and yet, they will show no respect for her, it is in death they walk for they have no honor, infants they will seem, but they bring murder.
Their gods are terrible, the wrath they teach is that of kin killer, no laws they have or understand, no caring for each other, with sobbing breath she warns us.
She must be quieted said some, she so frightens the young ones, her doom crying must be stopped what one people could kill the whole world, what people could be so bloody?
These tales must not be told, it is bad spirits that control her, there are no white skinned peoples, grandmother sun would soon boil them, and the eyes she describes are blind ones.
They heard, but would not believe, could not believe, such terrifying
madness, what people would so over breed as to destroy their own world, cut away the
trees and grasses?
Who could believe the hoards of ghosts she spoke of, who would slaughter both human and animal, for no better reason than fear and difference, who would so disrespect the very earth they stand on?
And so the council spoke, though with love and respect, and old Three Eyes fell silent, into her cave she moved both winter and summer, and her eyes remained so full of sadness.
Whispered silence, prayers and crying, they would not hear, and she could not leave them to face alone the darkness, while into one child she poured her secrets.
How many since have mourned that Creators children did not listen, how many times have they wished they had recognized her wisdom, how many know that endings do happen?
as told by my grandmother
