WHO WANTS TO PLAY "MYSTERY 'MATERS?"

Ponchatoula, LA(Zone 9b)

Gymgirl,

I love the idea of mystery Maters. What a neat idea. This is my first post on DG forums so HELLO TO EVERYONE.

Could I possibly get some of the mystery seeds to try over here in louisiana. I just got my tomato seeds for this season yesterday so I will be starting them tonight and would love to add some mystery to my garden this year.

Thanks in advance and if you don't have any MM seeds left that is OK also. Have a great day!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Hey, Cher!
I'm from the Big Easy, right around the corner from ya'll. Did ya'll have a Mardi Gras? I haven't been home since last November, but I sure wanna go get a good hot sausage or oyster po'boy, DRESSED, from Felix's or Acme.

I had one right off the plane at Acme in Metarie in November, and I almost killed myself! I was born and lived in New Orleans for 25 years of my life -- and I NEVER tasted so great an oyster po'boy as that night last November!

I gotta start playing the tourist in Houston now, to see what I'm missing before I die here!

Anyway, send me your addy in a dmail. I'll dispatch the mm's soon as I can.

Ponchatoula, LA(Zone 9b)

Louisiana is a great place to live for the food and for the garden. Mardi Gras was just last week. Up here on the northshore we still dont celebrate like they do south of the lake.

There is nothing like the food here I agree and there is nothing like a good tomato grown in this soil.

Houston is a great place you oughta get out and be a tourist in your new home town.

Thanks for the MM's :-)

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Tomatoluv,
I've been in Houston since '84, but New Orleans will ALWAYS be home to me!

Gymgirl

I have wanted to move to texas for years. I am a school teacher and coach and the schools and high school sports in that state are amazing. I would love to one day coach up in the dallas area or down around the katy area.

I love being from Louisiana but sometimes I think it would be nice to get a different perspective on life!

Gymgirl~ did the marigolds make it to Houston yet?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Trust me Luv, there is no place on earth like New Orleans, N I luv it with all my heart. But there R so many bigger, better opportunities in Texas. And it's still growing. And Texas is still close enough 2 take a weekender and grab a poboy, a beignet, a canoli, AND a strawberry daquiri I can walk through the Quarter with -- in that order!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Got my seeds today. Thank you Linda!!

Ponchatoula, LA(Zone 9b)

Got my seeds and they are in starter mix. Cant wait to see what is gonna come up.

Thanks Linda

Leander, TX

Much Thanks, Gymgirl!

The tomato seeds are here. Please let me know when you receive the lemon gem pot marigold and parisian carrot seeds.

My son and I are so excited about having our mystery maters. We just put in the first of our raised beds and they have a site already reserved for them!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

I'm glad you all got the seeds!

GARDEN6:
I raced home in all the daylight I was saving and was on the patio until dark. Then I went inside and worked in the light until 11pm SOWING YOUR MARIGOLD SEEDS! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I now have FOUR flats of marigold seeds (yours and some Nemagone Marigolds). Thanks A bunch!

OPAQUEDREAMER: Can't WAIT to sow your lemon gem pot marigolds! My Houston window for carrots is closed for a minute, but they are gonna get planted in my SECOND round of cole crops in the Fall! I'm just now starting to pull up my Nantes Half Longs that I sowed in November. I've heard much about the parisian variety, and am looking forward to pulling them next spring!

TOMATOLUV: HURRY UP and pack up that moving van! Can't you hear the call of the wild, wild, WEST?!!!

"Go WEST, young man!"

Hugs and Crosses to you all,
Linda

Yeah for you Linda~ sounds like you've been a busy bee in Houston. A lovly garden awaits you! ;0)

Saint Paul, MN

Gymgirl--Got the seeds the other day. Thank you. I will start them soon, within the next couple of weeks.

Tomatoluv--LA to TX doesn't seem that the different of a perspective. You should come up to MN. We'll show you how to icefish:)

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

He can icefish in Texas! He can throw out his line and catch fish while he ices down with a cold Big Red (I've learned that's the national beverage of Texas)!

Saint Paul, MN

We don't have to ice down the drinks in MN, we just set them outside. Trouble is you have to drink them before they freeze. Common problem ice fishing, the beer doesn't freeze until you open it. The pressure in the bottle keeps it from freezing, the second you open it it becomes solid.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Which is just why this activity of ICEFISHIN is better done in the climes of TEXAS!

Ponchatoula, LA(Zone 9b)

I think Mn is too far north for my wifes taste. I might can get her to Houston but Minn is a beautiful place but ICE FISHING.... GEEEZ that just sounds COLD :-)

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Had to let you know I have my first 2 sprouts!!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Nanny-6,
Are those "mystery mater" sprouts?

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Absolutely! Have 4 up now

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

wow. I AM impressed! Now I very curious too!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Your Mystery Maters are the only ones I am growing from seed. I had never tried to grow tomatoes from seed before. So I wasn't expecting much since I do not have heat mats or grow lights.

I also got some Poblano Peppers seed to sprout!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Here are 3 of the babies. They will be getting repotted soon. 3 others are individual pots already. All of them have their first set of real leaves now! I t is getting warm enough most days that they can go outside during the daytime.

Shucks, Nanny!

They NEVER looked like that for me in 16 days!!! I might need to send you ALL of the mystery mater seeds!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

they are quite tall actually. Monday I had topped off the pot with more dirt. I am in total shock as I have never tried tomatoes from seed before!! Thanks so much for the seeds.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Nanny,
You did say you don't have any grow lights? How are these getting light?

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Nope no lights...I have a very sunny south and west facing window upstairs. And as posted above, if it is a least 50 degrees they spend the dayoutside now and come in at night. I have pepper plants that I started the same time too in the same window.

Jenison, MI(Zone 6b)

Ms. Gymgirl,

Is it too late for me to play? I d-mailed you :)

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Patriotby247. It's not too late. I'll try to put you a packet together for posting tomorrow at lunchtime. If I can get it together, I'll post it on the way into my office.

Linda

Jenison, MI(Zone 6b)

Jenison, MI(Zone 6b)

Ponchatoula, LA(Zone 9b)

Gymgirl

I started 4 MYSTERY MATER seeds and all 4 sprouted and are in my father in laws garden and THRIVING. I will let you know what I get when I see some MATERS on the vine. BTW what I got was regular leaf plants just so you know!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Tomatoluv,
It's a mystery to me too! We'll all see together!

Pensacola, FL

Twelve paper towles seven kinds of seeds. This is a trick question right? Open a beer and then it freezes solid. Whats next microwaving icecubes to water with. Youall have to be making fun of us not so bright fokes, right.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

crazyfish3, not sure I understand? Open a beer and then it freezes solid?

Pensacola, FL

Gymgirl. TMaple wrote earlier about ice fishing and beer freezing after you open it. I understand the Texas style ice fishing it's a southern thing. Give a man a fish and he will eat one day. Teach a man to to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer. I'm having a little humor. Still 12 towles 7 different plant seeds , this hast to be a trick question. I have realy enjoyed reading the seed swaping and mystery seed fourm. I too was a victem of unknown seeds from dad. His was a way easyer choice, only two kinds to pick from. Purple pervian chillie peppers they were. They ward off colds, make real fine pepper sauce, and are so good looking I'm planting them outside my picket fence this year. I would be pleased to send you some seeds in about 6 weeks. I sent some seeds to Tenn. last year and the pepper sause makes a good Christmass stocking stuffer. Thanks again for the good work and humor.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Crazyfish3! Sure I'd like some hot pepper seeds, but you've got to send me the hot pepper sauce recipe, too. We drink Louisiana Red Hot sauce for breakfast at my house.

Linda

My addy's in the contacts section. Or I can send it to you in a dmail. LMK!
