I know Norwalk, Spent most of my life in Pasadena, the Rose Bowl Queen, Not just wished.Know all the beaches. had lots of family all over Calif. Moms still in Palmdale.
The "frosty stuff"
Thanks for joining us here Samigal! You live in a beautiful area yourself! I've driven through there a once or twice on my way to visit relatives. A little too warm for my blood in the summer. But is sure is pretty in the spring!
Nice pics Sally-OR That no name red one was really pretty.
We have fog today but the frost has all melted. It didn't melt in the shade yesterday.
Hi all! Great pics today! I've been having computer issues and am about ready to pull my hair out!
First it will sign on, then it won't, then it will shut down. I think it's finally got the gunk out off it's system. LOL!
Have to take the boys for a walk, BBL. (I hope).
Susan
The city hall here did bring in a lot of snow before Christmas so the kids could really enjoy it. I should have gone over there just to take a nice snowy picture. I always think of that after the fact. Just love those frosty pictures!!
Love all the "cool" pics!
Sally, I love your Pics! I'm glad that you were able to get out and take notice of all the interesting stuff. Hopefully you were able to keep your hands warm enough to not bother you.
I absolutely love the baker spruce and it's pic! The red plant that you couldn't think of is a Nandina (heavenly bamboo). Did your neighbor call that mole detering plant spurge or euphorbia? I think that this is the variety http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=euphorbia%20lathyris&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi Does it have to be that particular kind of Euphorbia? If that actually works, I'll plant euphorbia everywhere. Especially if it doesn't have to be that particular kind of it!!!!
Samigal, It's so hard for me to imagine that people actually bring in snow for the Holiday!! Most of the time, I'd like it trucked away! But, that would be a great thing for the kids. The pictures of the kids in that pile of snow would be good. Next year! I'm glad that you're enjoying that thread. I hope that we all keep it going until we have enough spring blooms to start that sort of a thread instead!
I guess it makes sense that Euphorbia would be a deterrent, since it has toxic sap . . . hmmm - I want to hear more about that.
Susan - There is a free malware software out there (Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) that might help. I have antivirus software, but it didn't detect the malware that was making my computer "confused". I downloaded this and used it and made a difference. You might try it.
rc....I have to go talk to her tomorrow, I'll find out what she knows. I liked Lulu Belle! I do get out and notice, just don't usually stay out and do anything about it. Had to go out to the store room behind the garage today, stayed too long and had to run hot water on my hands for 5 min. to thaw them out. Ouch! Dummy, I know better.
We're going on another bus trip tomorrow, it's another Mystery Trip.....so we don't know where we're going. Should be fun. Next month we're going to McMinnville to the Aircraft Museum and the Imax, really looking forward to that. We've been up to see the Goose several times, I worked at Hughes, so I take a picture of the progress they're making on the display and send it back to our retiree newsletter. But the Imax is new.
katie, thank you for the advice, I'll check it out. I think my server was having issues as well since everything seems to be ok for now.
I need to get some euphorbia (spurge) for my flower beds on the west side of the house, I have gophers. I'm not sure but I think they killed my burning bush. grrrrrrrr. I also have a product called Gopher Go that you place down in their hole, it's also called poisoned wheat. I only use that as a last resort and have to be careful that the dog's don't dig it back up. I would much rather use a natural deterent, plus I think they look neat. I have several of them planted in an old Hybrid Poplar log that DH cut the tree down several yrs ago as it died. The log is about 16' long and stands about 2' high. It's also full of ants. Maybe I should just take the euphorbia out of the log and plant it on the west side and just plant annuals in the log. What'd ya think ladies and gentlemen?

OOHHH! Jeff and I have been to McMinnville on one of our trips out to OR. We love the Air and Space Museum in Wash. DC. too. It was cool to see the Spruce Goose. Then we went to the coast and of course stopped in Tillamook at the factory to sample the ice cream LOL
That is interesting about the euphorbia and varmints.
I never would have known what Queen Anne's lace looked like frozen, amazing. I too enjoyed Lingernot's visit. He has been having a great time at everyone's home. Just wish I could have shown him a lot more, maybe another time???
I think that sounds like a good idea Susan. But, maybe look into the issue on the pests or problems forum, whatever its called, and see what kind of luck other folks have had with the plants using them as deterrants before taking the time to move stuff around? I was going to at least look through that forum tomorrow, when I have more time, to see if other have tried the trick with that plant before and had succuss or not. I'm sure at least some will have had luck with it.
I'm sure that you can get Lingerknot back eventually Sami if you want him! He'd probably appreciate something familiar :-p the first time I ever saw QAL in the winter, I really had to study it and actually unfurl the thing to figure out what it was. It did not want to budge out of that ball either!

Frost can be so beautiful!!!
I like the first one. Very dramatic.
rc....are you still frosted? We were clear this morning. Cold, but no frost.
Sami, I agree. It would take something like that to make me take a picture of that aweful plant!!
Willow, by the first picture you mean the one at the top of the thread? I have many more of those pics.
Sally.... Yep, have had frost since it quit snowing, more or less. I'm totally ok with it since it is usually a precursor to a sunny day!!! About 1/2 of the yard does not get any sun at all this time of year, so it has been frozen for a couple of weeks now. While I realize that frost is ice, frosty roads are, for me, easier to drive on because there's no guessing with frost...it's icy and you can see it! When there's not any frost, but it's really cold out... that leaves black ice, and we all know what that can do.
Sally, in that pic with the Queen Anne's lace, if you look at the background you can see where it's dark as well that the frost is pretty thick there. That's one of the areas that doesn't see light until almost March! It's just a little crunchy there right now. :-p
did we get lost?? :-p I that pic is really cool. Is that a frozen spider web? never mind. It clearly is. That's neat.

yours are there as well. What is the little plant?
That first pic would be a good one for the backlit picture thread as well. It's actually "sidelit' in your pic, but that doesn't really matter.
just a couple of things that popped out when I was out with the dog yesterday morning.......
Don't really know what the little one is....it is across the street in a neighbors yard..........
I think it might be lithodora. It's cute
I thought it was cute.....the dog wasn't too happy about the stop in her morning sniff for the evil creatures that were out during the night............sometimes you would love to know what they smell??????
That's for certain. lol. But, I'm sure that it makes them feel better to know that they are keeping track of those evil creatures!!
eewwww...sometimes not!!
Frozen spider webs are a favorite of mine. And that second one looks like fuzzy frost. Pretty little plant.
I saw the heavy frost behind QAL. Wondered if it was an earlier picture or if you still have it that thick. I still have a little crunch expecially on the bark, but no frost.
