The "frosty stuff"

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

This is the only one from today that I could find that sort of comes close to the chandelier effect. The light refracting in different directions and colors. But, it's really not a good representative. Susans tree would be a great one!

This was taken at his DDs house.

Yeah, the definitions I've seen really don't seem to make a distinction between frost and hoarfrost. But in popular use, it always seems like hoarfrost is accompanied by fog and that the frost is thicker, etc.

I think the people who live where it happens really should have the last word (regardless of the official definition).

So there!! Humph!

I love everyone's pictures! Great thread Shelly! Here is some of my rosemary during the snow in December.

Sure thing Rachel... thank Tilly actually :-p

that chicken wire is strangely hypnotic!

I can't remember what this is, well was.

What ever it was, too cool love it.

Love the wire, Rach does make you hypnotic

RC, love the tread, wish I had more to offer, was never home to see it.
This is all I have.
Poor frozen rose.

Very nice pics, everyone! I love hoar frost. When I lived in Reno and Fallon, NV we sometimes got hoar frost there with heavy fog. They called it pogonip, a native term meaning white death.

Love all the frosty things. Will have to look tomorrow and see if I can find something. We had a thick frost this morn.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Will all be looking forward to it Willow!

Eugene, OR

Beautiful pictures everyone. Tills & rc....look what you started!! Nice going.

I took this when I was hosting Lingernot in December. Not quite frosty but frozen.

Those are great. I love the heuchera in the second one. I think that any of the stuff that forms below 32 F. is fair game here!

Eugene, OR

I love the thick frost like you others get. Ours here in the valley isn't that substantial. I'll just look and enjoy yours. Like I said before, frost looks like a living thing to me.....just fascinating.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I personally have a love/hate relationship with it. But, It does look pretty when the sun shines on or through it, and I don't have to drive on it! I'm sure glad that you like it though 'cause I took a boat load of pictures this morning that I will spread out throughout the week.

Cool. Pogonip. I'll try to remember that. Nice pictures, everybody.

Sally, I didn't realize that you hosted Lingernot. That's great.

Eugene, OR

Yes, he was fun. We took him to meet the Big Ducks here in Eugene. In fact the day we got stuck on the freeway in the ice, we were headed to the post office to send him off to the next person.LOL The things we do for DG.

Eugene, OR

rc....understand how you feel about it, especially driving. So while I envy people for getting to see things like hoarfrost (which I have never seen) I enjoy not having to deal with it.^_^

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Sally, you should have put him on the hood of the car and taken a picture ( or did you?)

Eugene, OR

No, he was all packed up in his box. He did tell the story though.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

That's right - you would have had him packet up. Guess I'll need to check out that thread.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

wouldn't that have made a great picture! Lingernot on the hood of Sally's car, stuck in traffic!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Where is Lingernot now?

Eugene, OR

He's on his way to Iowa. Going to see llamas, goats and other critters.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Hope he has a warm coat. Brrrrrrr. Maybe he's the one spreading these cold temperatures around.

Eugene, OR

I know, poor boy, he came from sunny CA to me, been getting colder as he goes.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

so maybe there is a frosty picture of lingerknot floating around in Iowa that could be posted here. But, with any luck for him, hopefully he's not outside for long!

Eugene, OR

cmoxon is going to get him, I'll let her know a "frosty" picture is needed. lol

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Perfect!!!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

That'll be fun.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

wow - fabulous picture - I loved the one after the NE ice storm - ice storm? makes me hurt just thinking about it - I'm not sure I'm willing to thing about living in an ice storm region, but I do appreciate the photos.

I agree with the hoare frost definition of frozen fog - that's how we define it. But again, however its defined, stunning. Just stunning.

Keep the photos coming, enjoyment.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Good Morninr Laurie! Always Happy to have you join. Who knew that such a definition could be so vague. seems to make it all the more interesting for some reason though.

shelly - pretty early in the morning isn't it:) which jm is that?

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Definitely! way, wayyyyyy tooo early! ☺ The maple is 'Beni Komachi Sport' (corrected name!). Looking a little cold. I had to think about that one. It knew which it was when I took the picture, once on the computer though.... I was scratching my head for a few. It looks much smaller without its' leaves doesn't it? :-p

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

well i guess it would look smaller w/o leaves - with it being so full you can tell it is a nice one! just like the one i'm getting right:)
