January BINGO 2

Highland, IL

She has family in Springfield, MO, I don't know what type of weather they are having, maybe she can go there and stay with electric and heat!! We were with out eletric for 5 days after and during an ice storm a few years ago, I was at witz end. I can't imagine 3 weeks!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Syrumani, are you watching your weather forecast for tonight? We are getting our 2nd hard freeze of the year. I would imagine your weather will be even colder. I already have the heaters going on the front porch so that they don't have to play "catch up" tonight.

I hope Gran's agony doesn't last too long without her 'puter.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Don't suppose she has a generator--I'm pretty sure she mentioned having a good supply of firewood in a recent post.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I feel for everyone out there in ice country. I am praying for a speedy end to this terrible weather most of the country is having. It is even here in Florida, but not near as bad at every one else. We are expecting very cold temps again come next week. I think it's part of this storm that is across country. I just put away the blankets and covers and I'll have to drag them out again. At least I wont loose too many. For those that don't have power, there is not much they can do. I sure hope they don't loose all.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I just called and left another voicemail for Tommie. Her number is still "unavailable", but since she returned my call this morning, cell phone tower activity is probably hit-and-miss - either from overuse, or being frozen! I mentioned visiting her family, although their temperatures are about the same as hers . . . the difference would be if they had power. I also asked about a generator and/or firewood. If she doesn't post by the time I get to work tomorrow morning, I will post the Bingo calls for tomorrow.

Yes, Gail, I did . . . going to be a bit chilly! That's ok, though . . . I don't have any plants outside that can't weather freezing temps. Those, plus the wintersowing containers . . .which need freezing weather anyway. So, that's ok. We had already covered up the outside faucets last night.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

oh my gosh........I forgot about the water. I need to call my brother as he turns the main valve off at the highway so I won't have any water until the temps get above freezing. thanks for reminding me, Nichole.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I checked your weather, Gail . . . weather.com doesn't seem to think you'll get terribly cold temperatures . . . you should be fine without covering the faucets.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Do we have any Bingo players that are on dial-up? Is it taking any time to load the thread? If so, let me know and either Hillbilly_Gran or I will start a new thread with tomorrow's call. Thanks.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

jannich is on dial up and can't go past the 100th post......well......she can if she has 5 minutes.....
Jimmy said he didn't hear that it was going to do anything but drop to freezing for about an hour???? He takes that fancy pancy weather because of his farming.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Well, farming IS important . . . but I think you'll be ok. ^_^

A new thread will be started then, with tomorrow's call.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You are right. He told me to relax............

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

We have friends in Ark. that had electric wires down in their drive so they could get out. The power co. has since moved it and they had to go 70 miles to get to a motel that had a room with power. Hope all of our people are doing well.

(Zone 1)

Hi everyone. I haven't been around much lately so haven't seen how the Bingo game is going.

My Dad has been in the hospital for more than two months, and was moved to hospice in the VA Hospital a week ago. We said our goodbyes last Saturday when he was still awake and lucid. The next couple of weeks are going to be very hectic trying to get his apartment cleared out, and get things in order so I will pop in to say hello when I can.

I hope everyone is staying well. I have a cold that I caught from my DH, who probably caught it from his students!

My prayers are going out to HGran/Tommie and anyone who lives in the path of those awful ice storms. It is really amazing watching the pictures and video on the news. I've never experienced anything like that in my lifetime and wouldn't want to! It's really scary!

We have to deal with the threat of Hurricanes here in the South during the summer and I remember the Canes' of 2004 when we were without power for a week ... no fun! Power poles and lines were blown down everywhere, and it was hot and humid, no air conditioning, no fans, no power to the refrigerator so all food spoiled and had to be dumped ... but I will take all of that any day over the snow and ice. At least we had the swimming pool and lived in shorts, tank tops and our bathing suits for a week. I'd much rather suffer from the heat than freezing cold. We have a large generator now so if we ever lose power again we can at least have the refrigerator going, power for a fan, and my husband can have the pumps running on his aquarium so he doesn't lose his fish, corals etc.

Everyone ... stay well and be safe in that winter weather. Hopefully Spring will arrive quickly for us all.

I sure do hope Tommie gets electric back soon.Good thing is she has a woodstove to keep warm.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Lin,
I am sorry you are having such a difficult time right now.You are in my prayers.Don't forget to take care of yourself, too!
I think Gran said in an earlier post that she has a wood stove for emergencies.I hope she has somewhere else to go though. This mornings news said power would not be back in some areas for quite some time. That's really hard to go through.

Lynn

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

I can't imagine how hard it would be to have 3 weeks without elec. Thank God that she has that woodstove. It will make it almost do-able. The wearther is supposed to be better later today. Sunshine & over freezing.
Sending my prayers...

Lin, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. You and your family are in my prayers, along with everyone in the frozen regions of the country. I sure don't miss the cold, but never remember having to worry about no power only frozen water pipes. If the temps were going to be near freezing, we let the faucets drip very slowly so the water wouldn't freeze in them. I really feel for those with no power. It's very hard to keep warm. You can only wear so many coats and sweaters at once. You're lucky if you have a fireplace. At least you can sit around the fire if you can get firewood.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

FYI: Tommie is still with out power, this is her daughter and will be updating every few days. I haven't told her but I think will be a month. :) she says thanks to Nichole for the updates, sorry for missing your calls but my cell is in and out..

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the update. I figured the cell towers were either iced over, or busy being over used! ^_^

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the update on Tommie.Give her a hug from us ^_^ Geez a month without power.Maybe with the crews of electric workers going to help it will be sooner.I know 15 crews from Alabama got on the road yesterday and more are going to today to help out.I'm sure other states are helping out too.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

After the Missouri ice storm of 2007 I had to move to a hotel that had electric crews from as far away as New York staying there.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks for emailing us to let us know... Still keeping you in our prayers...
Hugs,
Susan
