O'siyo Sister mine...Donadogavi ??? It is good to see you also...The Deer Clan bid you O'siyo also...They find it quite funny that I found you here...

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

OH MAN!!!! Dusty you are VERY talented with clay. I love em all especially the troll or ogre whatever he is...I want him for my new fairy garden. What does somthing like that sell for?

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Well now Cindy... do you REALLY want a troll/Ogre in you Fae Garden??? It tends to frighten the Fae....LOL

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Okay. Classes at Dusty's house!!! Who's in? Me, me, me!!!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

If I could I would be there in a minute!!!!! On Line Class like Betty did?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Which one in particular Cindy?? Did you mean Gentry in the bird cage??

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

The one above the mouse but I like them all they are so COOL. I am amazed at how you people can do that. When I try to make something out of clay it looks deformed lol

Glenview, IL

oh my gosh, my favorite is the Babe.

...I do love them all though.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Can you make babies like this? I love these but dang $47 for 1 little baby that is only 5 1/2" high. There is one of a "Princess in Training" that reminds me of my DGD.

Okay...He is a little Troll boy...if you notice, his feet are not finished...He is meant to sit in a birdcage like Gentry where they are usually hidden...
They do not weather well outside...Neither polymer and especially not Papydur will tolerate the sun or rain...

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Mine are life size, and if you find one at $50 or less for that little one you are lucky...They are harder to do than the large ones...These go for upwards of $1000...Or were 5 yrs ago...

Ok, I'm up for an online meeting. Do you have a webcam Dusty? I can mail one to you. How do you connect online? Dialup, DSL, Cable?

We can setup a date and time to meet in an Adobe Connect meeting. If you want I can setup the meeting room and send the link out. Of course Dusty, this is up to you.

Let me know. I'm soooo interested in seeing some sculpting.

Thanks Lisa, but it will have to wait for a bit yet until I get my studio set up, and get some more clay ordered...I have decided to use 1 day of my new 3 day weekends to getting back at it...now that my house is finally in some semblance of order after my recent move...

Come Summer, 1 day for the house, 1 day for the gardens, and 1 day for the clay...

I'm on Time Warner Cable....and no cam anymore.. I sent mine to my SIL when he was in NO cleaning up after Katrina so the kids could see him...

We will be waiting!!!!!!

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

First project will be to complete my very large half finished Egret and then to create the Fae to ride on his back...Would be a good lesson for you all...Just don't turn on your speakers...LOL

He has been packed through 4 moves now, and I saw some leg damage that I am not happy over...He will be about 20 inches tall, and an open wing span of about 16 inches...His Fae will be about 8-9 inches tall...

Rossville, IN(Zone 5b)

absolutely. I'll wait. In the meantime, I will setup an appt, send out a link and see who all joins in. I will host the first meeting where I discuss how it works. We could set it up where one person shares some stories of themselves or some hobbies so we can learn about them. We could meet once or twice a month.

What do you all think? Would you like to have an online room to do some crafting classes from each other?

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

In the meantime.. I can give you all some homework to do if you like??...

Rossville, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh, I loveeee homework. Give, Give.

O

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Okay... First.. It involves SHOPPING!!! I KNOW you all love that idea...

You have to go raid your thrift stores....

Rossville, IN(Zone 5b)

I love shopping thrift stores. What am I looking for?

Rossville, IN(Zone 5b)

My hubby comes home in 5 minutes and I will need to go. Create the Homework and I will come back to this thread to find out what needs to be done.

Who else is in? Oh, this is soo much fun.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sounds good to me!!!!!!
Need to go to Best ans Worse and tell Betty about it!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh I'm in too but I know I'll never creat something like that. i've seen those life size babies in Ashton Drake etc. for $150

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi DustyDS,
I love the babies!!!!!!!!!! I have wanted to learn to do it but I don't know anyone other than me who even likes them.I have gotten a couple babies off of Ebay.Reborn,Ashton Drake So Truly, and Lee Middleton Breath of Life.I got very good deals or I wouldn't have them. The reborn are so nice,I've never seen any made of clay in person, but they do look just as real. Here is one reborn I bought. She was a resell ,the person selling it said in the description that she paid close to $1000 for her and I got her for less than $100.But I have seen some reborn and clay go for up to and around $5000.

How cute!!! I hope Laura sees this, she had that exact outfit when she was a baby!!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I'm in....but I'd rather walk next door to see it in person....of course, if there were other people, then I would be in for that, too. You see....I can handle the language. ;o)

I don't have a picture of my Santa Dusty did on this computer, but I think I might have shown it earlier, around Christmas time. I have seen the babies she does and Oh gosh they look so real. I could see me rocking one of those babies!!!

Dusty is the queen of thrift stores, antique shops and freecycle!! I LOVE it!! Yesterday she gifted me with an almost brand new wine cooler that she snagged on Freecycle. It is awesome!

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Here is your list for the thrifts...

A nice toaster oven...Usually $10 or less...Don't tell me you already have one unless you NEVER intend to use it again...

A solid metal pasta maker...NOT a machine...you need the roller type..

Costume jewelery...find old single earrings, necklaces, pins etc.. Look for the grab bags with a bunch of stuff in it...

bags of laces and trims and ribbons etc...

Look for your grandmothers sheer scarves they used to wear home from the beauty shop on Saturday...any pieces of silk very sheer materials... I have Pics if you need...

OTHER Materials:

Buy or get from Freecycle old cosmetics...Blushes especially, and powders...no creams

Cheesecloth - Look at Leandor, my large male Fae...his shirt...

You will need a small vise and some cheapo chopsticks as well as toothpicks, not the cheapo ones...LOL...Kitchen matchsticks minus the head are handy too...
Wire and wire cutters
Foil
florist wire and tape
Needles of all sizes, especially large needlepoint dull tips...
tweezers...
manicure orange sticks
metal cuticle pushers that are sorta flat

and last but not least...A nice box of Sculpy Polymer clay...Flesh color
I will start you with that, because it doesn't do anything until you bake it...

Hair is going to be a bit more difficult for you, because I have always used hair from Angora goats or other long breeds of goat or sheep...
It can be dyed in strong coffee or tea or various other concoctions... We will go into that later on...I will see if I can find my goat hair source online...

For the Troll that Cindy likes, it is a scrap of mink pelt...look for collars of that at the thrift too...

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

My mom says, apparently I didn't get enough dolls as a little girl.I just love them so very much.Which I knew how to do it.But we live in such a small area that classes are unheard of.

The only reason YOU got the wine cooler is cause I drink the cheapo Box stuff... ROFLLLLLLLL
That and cause I love ya!!!

Rossville, IN(Zone 5b)

Hubbies not home yet so I don't have to go.

I only shop at Thrift stores for my clothes. I have a store in the next town to me that is awesome. I find Levi's, Anne Klein, NY, Christopher & Banks, Abercrombie, American Eagle, Eddie Bauer, Land's End, Denim & Co, and so many othe rname brand clothes at such discounted prices. I pay anyway from $0.75 to $3.99 for a pair of jeans, and the tops are $0.50 to $2.99. I always shop their sales at 50%-75%.

Their hardware stuff isn't that huge of an area. They do have some things and I see that they are getting more odds and ends in than usual.

So, the homework challenge is needed. Oh, I'm soo excited.

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Reborns are pretty easy Synda...Let me go dig my last one out of his box...His cradle is waiting, but it has a chandelier in it at the moment... LOL

Rossville, IN(Zone 5b)

Great! The homework list. Let's do this girls. This is awesome. I will take inventory this week and report back when I'm almost complete.

What about everyone else?

Rossville, IN(Zone 5b)

You can't see it, but I'm jumping up and down with so much giddy! How exciting!

Ok, a bit overboard I know, but I'm soooo bored and need something to challenge me.

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

He is not real happy about being wakened from his nap in his box... LOL

Have everything except possibly the Hair......Dusty, take a look at Twice As Nice they have a lot of quality doll hair etc. and let us know what they have that will work.....we used their wave hair on the Victorian Santa's we did with Betty. I ordered some wave hair from another source once, but as the name says theirs IS "Twice As Nice"...

http://www.twiceasnice.com/

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Dusty, will you help me with my list????? You know you get to all the best places...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I also am jumping up and down.....I do a lot of crafts and things but clay is my best therapy and first love......oh to have the space and the funds for a studio!!!!!!

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

He is so sweet! Couldn't just kiss him all over?

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

They never grow up,no dirty diapers,no crying in the middle of the night, and never need a sitter.
