Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I'm with you Seandor grrrrrrrr

DH says that chickens stink bad. Squirrells stink like chickens?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I must admit even though they can eat a few blooms, I do like watching them. They are so psychotic in almost all that they do. We have a few little red squirrels which are getting pretty rare these days. Mostly all grey squirrels that eat a lot of seeds I put out thinking they will leave my garden alone and for the most part they do.

Like a Hawke, a Coyote, a Plane, A bird. They got to eat right? :-) I hate seeing a hawk come down and take a bird from the feeder. More when it takes a cardinal or indingo. A grackle - I have no mercey.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Morning Doves seem to be the prime target here. Not your most brilliant creature, all the other birds head for the trees and the MDs fly out across the yard. Duh!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

the little red ones are very playfull with each other at my last house we would watch them for hours they would play on the eletric wires at the back of the property they would run across falling and hanging upside down

the kids would just laugh at them then they would stop and look at the kids as if says what is so funny

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

My dog didn't pay any attention to the squirrels until I moved this feeder near the window - she chased them out of the yard the other day.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Talk about a stare down. Ha, you think he is thinking "Just you wait 'till I get out there"? Great shot.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

my dog just goes insane when ever sees one nomatter the weather if the pretty rat comes to visit my deck the dog wants out to chase it what a good little boy he is but I wish he would not bark at it from inside sounds like someone is killing him lol

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

funny my one yorkie had an issue of howling every time the fox were out and doing there normal screaming... the first time was at 3:00 AM and she NEVER howled before... I have never heard a sound like that coming out of a yorkie... kind of felt like a horror movie.. moving in slow motion when I was turning to look at her... took me a while to figure out what the heck was going on.... yesterday we had a flat on our truck... Randy put the end on his impact gun... and you know how it makes that high pitched noise.... she thought the fox was outside... and started going nuts... run to the front door... to the back door .... back up to the bedroom... to the front door etc.... stopping now and then to howl... but mostly barking the whole time.... I am going to have to think twice about opening my windows when the weather breaks....sigh

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

watch the dog wisperer and break the habit or it will get to be every little noise she will do the same behavior

I have a jack russel and he came to me with no manners at all to the point he would bite me if I tried to feed him, he is now a real good boy with work any behavior can be stopped or charged

it may take time, it took me three years to perfectly train my dog, he does have the I am a big dog attitude thinks he is 150 pounds or something

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Jen, I have to tell you, I may visit the NE Forum more often. This thread is absolutely hysterical. I posted a link to it in a thread discussing squirrels in MidAtlantic. You guys should impose a cover charge to defray the feed costs!!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

yup but is it the squirrel or us lol

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hey Stormy....you are technically part of the Northeast...so stay around!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

'Everyone is northeast of somewhere' which is the motto/slogan? of the NE Forum I was told except for the guy who lives exactly on the southpole who well, er sorry southpole guy, can't belong.

ah but they only like certain ones hahahahaha had that problem at my last house

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I SEE 'TULIP'!!! Really!!!! I'm cured. Damien the Spawn of Satan TreeRat ate every tulip, glad, calla lily, crocus etc. the first 2 years until Ifoiled the &(V%^D varmit with my trusty buried fencing. He still tries though.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

put out coyote urine

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I surround my bulbs with a loose net of chicken wire when I plant them. The chicken wire is completely buried, but this really helps.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the squirrels beat my baffles this morning - the snow is high and it has a thick ice layer on top - there was one of them at the base of each feeder - then one decided to leap and made it - the other one saw him and leaped over the baffle on his feeder.
dnut is right - Damien the Spawn of Satan TreeRat - will need to get out there with snow shoes and break up the snow - hate it when they empty the feeders

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

the squirrel is scaring the birds away not happy about that

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Ric and I have been having a great time reading this thread.
Drats! They have a guard bird posted.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

they are so cute why do they have to be such pitas (pain in the arses) I have a feeling I will have to do the humain thing and get a life trap and send them to forests unknown lol I also started with two chipmunks a year ago september they had babies this part summer so this fall I had eight so if they fallow in the habit of reporduction I could have 40 this spring lol just to many alvins, simons, and theodore eating out of my garden

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Wha - the tree rats are doing the same here... First they chewed the plastic holding the screws in, now they can just jump up. ARGH...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

We have a long waiting list for humane traps here. The very intelligent City Planners planned a huge subdivision on top of an equally huge gopher warren.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

lee valley store has the traps since they are the same size for both I am just going to purchases one and then it will be available when I need it

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

'Guard birds' - good one, Holly.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

hahahhahah so funny

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The squirrels at my house just knock the tulip stems until the bloom falls off. Kinda like cow tipping but with tulips and squirrels. I feed the little guys but don't feed the birds - well not yet anyway.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

they seem to be partial to certain bulb plants they must be sweet or something maybe taste nutty since I have noticed that they only go after certain ones lol brats

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thats why they say to plant your tulips/lily...all the ones the squirrel likes , then plant a circle of daffs around and among them. They hate daffs, im told garlic bulbs and chives will work too.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

daffs work better used garlic before and the little critter still eat my blue tulips I have 18 of them and I have never had the pleasure of seeing one bloom yet lol maybe this year I will cross my fingers

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)
