Nice reds for the holidays Bill
Garden Photos - Part 47
thx ge
O my the bark on the maple is spectacular. I bet it looks outstanding in the snow too!
it is by the front door and half buried in snow now
I saw one of those CBM from across the lot at my local nursery early last spring. The thing just glowed like a light among the other trees. Asked what it was, just for future reference of course. Now if I only had a place to stick one in around here. Yours looks good to me too. So good in the spring and winter, how about in the summer? We will need more pics I think Bill. Hmmm, nandina too. Victor has shown some nice pics of that also this fall. You two make shrubs and trees hard to resist.
I think the CBM is a luvly choice. For those (like me) who need something hardier, coral bark dogwood is pretty although it is a shrub. My 'halo' dogwood gets pretty red bark in the winter but much darker red. Of course right now it's buried in a snowdrift LOL.
patti - here's one from the same tree on memorial day. i have one in front and one in the backyard.
i've been a member here for a year and have watched victor's posts closely - then i noticed i'd show something and he'd already have it. (although not this exact cbm) and we seemed to have similar tastes - so last month i went through all of the back blooms posts and created a list of what i liked - mostly stuff he has and shelly out in oregon. BIG list that i will never be able to afford. i'll pick away at it as i can afford them and take advantage of specials. two places are having gift certificate sales and anyone who asked what i wanted i sent them there - Santa went too!
wife got me 4 JM's and i have a list of at least six others i will get. and then some other plants as well - my wife has finally began openly discussing my mental state. i tell her it is better than hanging out at bars LOL
That is a luvly bed wha. Is it my imagination but it relative to your fence and cedars it looks like your daffodils are 6 feet tall???
no 6 ft tall daff's - just the angle of the camera
Well that doesn't help to keep money in my pocket, the thing looks good with leaves too. LOL Yep Victor is a bad influence if you have the addiction and let's face it we all are afflicted to one extent or another, but like you said there are a lot worse ways to spend time and money. Thanks for the pretty pics.
patti - cbm are not supposed to be that hardy - i am on the zone edge - some folks on the jm forum hat them because they feel nursries are selling them where they can't survive. i've been lucky with mine - the one in the picture was purchased late on year at home depot - i had walked by it for months and it was in a state of neglect - i rescued it (the explanation i gave my wife) and it has done great.
O wow I thought CBMs were zone 5 :O Very good info wha.
Hi all! Been busy all day preparing for tomorrow. Guilty as charged! We're all addicts and this is our group therapy / justification / rationalization place. May we all get worse in '09! Merry Christmas to all my friends, fellow gardeners and photographers!
Merry Christmas NE friends. May Santa be kind and tomorrow bring great happiness and love.
May all everyone's wishes come true this Christmas, and may we all get what we want for our gardens in the coming years. Lets keep all those nurseries and garden centers in business!
Karen
Merry Christmas to all of you folks that are Northeast of somewhere!
Santa is usuallly NE of me but we're tight from my years of living in the Arctic (13). I've actually been to the north pole, really truly. According NORAD Santa is here http://www.noradsanta.org/en/home.html
It looks like I'm close to the last stop which is good cuz it will give us time to share a refreshing beverage and catch up (important as he has to hitchhike to my house cuz reindeer are illegal in Cowtown, also really truly).
Merry Christmas Dyane! Hope it's a great one for you, your husband and the kids - especially the new baby's first!
What a precious shot, Dyane! Looks like Santa is scaring her.
O that is priceless. Yupper strange guy with fake beard. Mom and Dad are smiling so I will play along ^_^. Luv the candycane stockings.
She's beautiful Dyane! What a great expression!
I am actually impressed that Santa has a real beard! Not so sure about the teeth though.
Nah Anitabryk2 a good glue job? Perhaps? Anyhoo it was great that that the little one was working with the flow.
my neighbor used to do the santa thing... he came in my house.. I ran and hid under my bed
remember it like it was yesterday
Great pics Bill! i'm glad that things seems to be recovering all right.
Dyane, I love the pictures. Especially the littlest santa!
Best Wishes to everyone over in the Northeast!
What ever you celebrate this season: may it be safe, may it be festive, and all that it should be!
Cute, cute and more cute, Dyane!
Karen
Guess I'm not the only one up so late (or early, whichever you prefer)!
definitely not! I'm so turned around by my new schedule that night and day are pretty vague right now! :-p
Well, I'm playing Santa. Just filled the stockings and did last minute wrapping. There wasn't enough money in my budget to get all that I wanted to get for everyone on my list. Some things I feel like they're kinda lame in retrospect. Not much I can do now. I love getting Christmas gifts for people, and I hate it when I don't have enough money to get what I would like to get for everyone.

Karen, If you did what you could with what you have, then the best was done! I feel the same way too sometimes, but all I have to do is think of what my grandmother said that they did for presents for one another and were all very grateful for it. Especially, during the depression. I always remember that one year her and her siblings collected all their money and bought oranges, which she said were a big expense being out of season. The had cloves already as well as ribbon since they used that on some of their clothes. they cloved the oranges, tied the ribbon around them so that they could be hung, and cloved oranges is what they gave to anyone other than the immediate family that they wanted to give stuff to. I always remember that story because I've made cloved oranges before and know how my fingers hurt after doing more than just a few of them. However, they smell wonderful!
Cloved oranges, eh. Well, I have a friend who recently has been making cloved apples. I didn't know you could do it with oranges as well. She says the apples last for years, and they are very time-consuming to make.
Karen
Thanks everyone! Glad I could give you a little chuckle. I hope it was a happy day for all.
And to you as well Dyane.
Karen, funny how that works. I had no idea that apples would last all that long if you were to clove them. But, I bet it's a lot easier on the fingers to make cloved apples than it is oranges. I bet that both of them smell really good!
I went out to try to get a few pictures today. sun hasn't been out for what seems like weeks. So, it wasn't so easy to get things very clear.
