The solstice sun peeping through the snow-covered trees.
Garden Photos - Part 47
Great shots!
Those are all very nice Victor. I really like the one with the sun hitting all those cones. That icy "Old Man" is pretty good. Too bad the original fell down. Yours may disappear too if we get a mid week thaw.
Thanks. Yes, we are supposed to warm up.
Lovely pictures, Victor. I love the "Old Man of the Icicle" shot. The trees sure look pretty when they are covered with snow. I was out and about today, and most of the snow has fallen from the trees, so it doesn't look as pretty as when it first fell.
Karen
great shots Victor... love the old man... that's really cool
They really are beautiful shots everyone. I love the look of snow. Especially clean fallen snow.
Redchic - do you normally get that much snow in the winter? I'm not familiar with Oregon's weather.
Thanks Karen and Allison!
Victor that last sunset pic is such a lovely scene. I love how the sun is just hitting the tips of the distant tree tops.
Karen, I'm glad your Rds. were ok. and that you made it home safe!
Robin, Beautiful sunset pics!
Robin and Anita.... I'm not familiar with Oregon's weather right now either! :-p Thanks for checking up on us out here!! I'm up high enough that this amount of snow is really only a little more than usual. In the lower elevations, and the route that I commute, it's quite a bit more and then we lack the rd equipment to deal with all of it. Really the biggest difference is that we're not unthawing inbetween systems. I guess we're spoiled and used to having the weather vary between sun, rain, snow, ice, rain, snow, sun, ice, etc. every hour ( only a little exaggeration there :-p). These systems are just going back and forth between snow and ice. I've fortunately been sitting in a little "pocket" area that hasn't been getting sheets of ice, just the normal below freezing stuff (knocking on wood). North of me, Portland and Salem, have been pretty snarled by that stuff!
Victor, I agree with everyone else! Gorgeus sunset pics!! my fav's are the last one and the "old man" - Yep, even I've heard of the "old Man" and that folks were missing it.
This picture is one that my sister took yesterday. It's one by the rd. to her house over in Eastern Oregon. Those are my nephews. The taller one is 4'11"
it looks as though you're thinking of going south Victor. lol
Thanks Shelly. Yes, it was pointing in the right direction!
Cute kids Shelly. MAN that looks desolate out there.
Thanks and It is desolate!
My older nephew is being quite the "ham."
Jan has been out somewhat near that way. She can attest to the situation of being able to see for miles without being able to see a thing in that area of Oregon.
Nice picture! and Yuk!
Jan, your DH didn't try to come out here for the Holidays did he? I suppose that getting into Portland might not be so bad, but getting anwhere from there seems to be the issue.
Yes, I can attest to the fact that you can see for miles out there in OR. That is quite a bit of snow. Your nephews are cuties. How much farther from Shaniko is your sister?
Nope, DH didn't come out for Christmas and BOY, is he ever glad that we didn't plan it. Our son outside of Portland had about a foo then that was covered with a thick sheet of ice. Sounds like '96 when he got married. That was pretty awful. We are planning for the summer-time. Not sure what part though, cuz we want to do our kitchen. A real DIY effort. If anyone has ideas or pointers. Maybe I should start a thread. What do you think?
I love everyone's pics. We have been spared here, mostly. Just a thin coat of ice Sunday morning.
Shelly, did you get power back where you were house-sitting? Have you had to miss work from your new job because of the snow?
I'm just thankful that everyone has such great positive attitudes still after coping with all the recent weather problems we have had!
Shelly, they got a lot of snow where your nephews are at. Nice! Looks so pretty.
Karen
Thanks, Karen and Jan! Candyce, you're definitely right about the attitudes here. DG seems to attract a good bunch of people!
Jan, I'm glad that you two played it safe and will be coming out at a much better time. My sister lives about 2.5 hours northeast of Shaniko. Maybe about 70mi. as the crow flies. However, the terrain is nearly identical. If it weren't for irrigation, they would be identical. I also agree that this weather very much reminds me of odd '96 weather, hopefully it plays itself out in a better fashion. But, all we can do is just "see how it goes," and take whatever nature hands out with a grain or two of salt I guess!
Jan I forgot about the power thing. You have a great memory! The power was out for a little more than a full day. I did miss work on Sun. since the snowplow didn't by until 1245pm. I had taken the tractor to all of the driveway, but the end, since the plow would cover it again. By the time i got that pushed off it was 1:30, so there wasn't any sense in making the commute at that point. Fortunately that wasn't the new job though. So, I packed up Shadow, the dog, and his stuff, then brought him to my place to stay until I don't have to wait for the snowplow to go by before I can leave for work, and there isn't as great of a chance of a power outage to mess with my alarm clock (my battery back up one was at home anyhow). Since they hadn't been going by until 8:am at the earliest, I figured that there wasn't a chance of them going by at 2:30 am, which is when I have to leave from there for a 4Am start time at the new job. So far, so good. I have been able to get to the new job on time, every day, from my place!! I've had to move some snow around on the driveway before I could leave in the mornings, but nothing that a good old fashioned shovel hasn't been able to handle in a few minutes!
So, that's the long end of a short story!
Unusual plant! Glad to hear you are coping, Shelley. Great shots, Victor! Since my DH is from NH, he misses the Old Man---I saw it once & it was pretty impressive. Merry Christmas, All!
One wish---Over in african violets, there is a thread Re-Lipstick plant--closely related to your goldfish....you pic would fit in nicely!
