The Chatty Amaryllis Coop (let's keep it going)

Tucson, AZ

Too Too cute...I'm just glad you didn't name her Amaryllis!

Richland, MI(Zone 5b)

Yeah, Pebbles is a very suited name!

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Well all...since checking my bulbs that are "planted" in water and pebbles for rotting roots and removing them...and replacing the water with water that has h2o2 added.....the 4 that were growing minutely are really taking off. Still waiting for blooms, though.

The first bloom on my Pasadena opened yesterday. It's one of the plants I have at work. I finally took Dancing Queen home because it had been there 8 weeks and not growing, but now that I put it on a heating mat at home, 2 stems are just starting to show.

Here's Pasadensa.

That is so pretty...I love the Pasadena colors.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

How very lovely! It looks like a vivid deep coral(ish) red. Is that correct, or just the picture. I love the green throat too!
When, oh when will mine bloom??? Surely sometime next year! LOL

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

I'm glad I realized they aren't just for Christmas. Next Christmas is too long to wait. So mine went into the dirt today as I started also my first winter sowing.
Thank you for the info.

my bulbs have all grown significantly since I discovered and removed all rotting roots. Notice the paper towel roll next to the tall tall Jewel (I placed it for perspective). heck, it has grown about 4" in 1 wk and sits at a garden window....go figure ;-D

Tess, nice Pasadena!

This one here, today , is a good bit taller after the root clean-up I gave it last week.

I am planting Apple Blossum and Nymph today. Have the roots soaking now, and will pot up after a nap. I have stayed up alkl night transferring files and combining pics for an album (actuallly 3) for my church. LOL, I'm just about cross-eyed and deffinately slap happy. Heck I can't even talk / think to nmyself without confusing me!
These, I'll probably put in the pebble water systemi fthe roots look good after their long drink.
I put the other one in soil as the roots were so dried up they practically fell off. Getting heavy lidded, so g'nite...er day...

I'm kinda glad that some of the BP orders didn't go through. Expensive but what are you gonna do?

Thumbnail by wineaux
Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

What are the BP orders Wineaux? Sure glad you are seeing a lot of pretty blooms. They are gorgeous. You sure do have them in a variety of pots don't you? Some of them look pretty big. So, do you think it matters whether you have them in a small pot, crowding them, or in a bigger pot?

Jeanette

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Susan those look great!!!

somewhere, PA

I saw a Cinderella amaryllis for sale at the grocery store for $6 and almost bought it.
Oh I truly am certifiable. I must have 50 bulbs of various sizes already. help!!!!

Those are gorgeous. I can't wait 'til more of mine bloom.
Tam

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Hey Goofy, I got the seeds today. I am not sure when they actually came tho, because we have been snowed in and haven't gotten our mail for several days. Really, now that I think of it, it has been since last week.

Anyway, thank you very much and I will get them planted right away. Have a wonderful new year!!

Jeanette

Richland, MI(Zone 5b)

Beautiful flowers, everyone! 9Kitty's Papillio is marvelous! I have to show the pic to mine, so he knows what to do next time...

Susan (9Kitty), what is that seed head in the back of the Pasadena?

Tammy, what kind of help do you need? We can help in many ways, including taking some bulbs from you, if that's what you want, we'll find several people to "sacrifice" themselves, LOL!

Jeanette, I'm happy that the seeds are with you, and good luck sprouting! Let me know of the outcome!

Birdie, your bulbs look good, anxiously waiting for the flowers any day now!

I have no flowers to brag about today...
Happy New Year everyone!
Alexandra

somewhere, PA

LOL Alexandra ... I just may need that kinda help. I will probably donate them to our local
chapter of the Rock Garden Society. Then I can acquire more w/o guilt.

I found one of my new kittens chewing on the flower bud on one of the amaryllis this
morning. grump. Good thing she's so cute!

Richland, MI(Zone 5b)

I can help a Tammy in distress with some bulbs, then... :o) All you have to do is shout!

I am very disappointed of the post-holiday offers in the box-stores here... I don't have any save mission, basically because I've found nothing to save at one of the HD's and Lowes (the ones closer to my house)... is this my first year without a rescue mission?

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I found a ton to save at WalMart, but I believe they were too far gone to save. They had bloomed inside the box and curled around inside. It was pitiful. And they still wanted half price for these things. They should give them away. imo

The seed pods behind Pasadena are Moonlight. I also have Orange Sovereign getting ripe. Anyone wanting these let me know and I will send them out right away.

Susan
=^..^=

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Susan, Goofy sent me some seeds from Moonlight. I have never tried them before, but I would love to try some of your OS also.

BTW Goofy, can I paypal you the postage for the seeds? The cancellation doesn't show what it cost. Please let me know.

Jeanette

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

OK, I will put you on the 'list'. LOL

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

BTW Goofy, how do I plant these? And you said "right away"? But you sent me soooooooo many. I am sure I can plant them all tho. They may not all come up? Maybe I will just plant half of them now, or better yet, I will wait until you tell me what to do with them. LOL

Then decide.

Jeanette

Tucson, AZ

Hey Jnette,

I do have mine planted in all diffrent shapes and sizes! LOL I don't know how it might affect the size of the bulb or plant. I've heard that question before but I don't remember the solution. I went to look at my pots sizes just now and it seems to me, just looking at my own pots, the plants in the bigger pots grew to a larger size than the ones in the smaller containers. The ones where the flowers are bigger I also planted on a bed of alfalfa...so who knows? Next year I'm thinking of putting them all together in some kind of barrel or something. My unscientific method worked for me LOL

The BP was when I had some extra bulbs put aside for a few friends but for various reasons never reached their destination, so planted
them for myself and they really are amazing!

Have a Happy Happy New Year

LOL Wineaux, I know what you mean. I have some Pasedenas, Red Peacock, moonlight, and Lima that belong to other people and the Lima is almost ready to open. Can hardly wait. These people all live fairly close by but we are snowed in.

Susan, don't save me any seeds. If you have other people that want them I have enough. Goofy sent me a lot of the Moonlights. Thanks a lot tho.

Jeanette

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Nobody else has asked yet. I don't know what I am going to do with all these, but I always like to make them grow. LOL It is just so cool to watch them.

That is what I thought Susan. I love to try different plants and these definitely are different.

What kind of seeds? I must have missed something, but am probably interested.
gonna post a few updates on my pokey bulbs. one - the one in a round glass container had 2 blooms to dry up before maturing, well removed and opened the ltest one - here are some pics of thetiny dried up "flower", whick I think is lovely even in its miniscule imiture form, BTW, the bulb is rapidly sending up a 3rd flower in the middle of lots of leaves.
This is the dried up one that I removed

Thumbnail by BirdieBlue
Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

the tiny dried up bloom...maybe 2...aren't they perfect, even in their immature dried state?

Thumbnail by BirdieBlue
Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

this is the 3rd attempt for this noid bulb (I forgot to label it), think it is a Jewel, like my very tall one

Thumbnail by BirdieBlue
Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

This is a Pasadena. Do the outer bloom "petals" always look reddish like this? I am most anxious for this one to open and don't think it is going to be very tall.
My poor Kitties usually have a bowl at each end of this window shelf, but are relegated to standing on the counter with their dish nearly displaced by flowers. at least they haven't tried eating these leaves, much to my delight.
