Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #75

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

cover it with foil-keeps in from burning and helps it cook:)

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Just wanted to say that I have now baked Ruby's Apple Sauce cake twice, and it needs way more cooking time than 45 minutes.
Just did one in a 9-13" pan and I added at least 25 minutes to the cook time--and the middle of it was still "raw"......Took it into work for our front end X-mas party...Many people tried it and loved it.
I think next time I make it, I will cut the applesauce to only 2 cups. Maybe it is just my oven.....

Covering with foil might help. At least keep the top from getting too brown in the extended cook-time.

Thanks Ladies,

turned the oven off, and let it continue to bake down...that worked.

LOL, So Steve wakes up and says...Is something burning, I said yep and quick closed the door.
So he gets up to get his coffee, Looks in the oven and says OH boy!! How am I gonna cook?
Geesh that guy...Oven is ready to cook now.

Cake is nicely Brown and is cooked through...Smells good
LOLol, now just to figure out how to remove it from the pan!!

Hey Judy - A lot of my cooking experiments come out tasting pretty good but not always looking too great. Glad it was accepted and hope all is forgiven for a messy oven. You are such a cutie!!! Life would never be dull with you around.

Gita, I am ashamed to say that I haven't even attempted baking the cake or anything else this holiday season. I have given myself permission to do so after the holidays and I will see then if I have mistakenly written down the wrong cooking time.

Liz, I am like you and wondering when I am going to have some of the snow that the rest of the country and Canada is getting. My only requirement for snow is that the power stay on, internet and cable TV stay on, we have plenty of milk, coffee and other essentials. ha-ha Not asking much, am I?

Zhinu and Abbie'sgrandma, I had a rock collection as a kid. My older neighbor friend had one, so of course, I had to too. A few years ago John took me to a family cabin over in the mountains of West Virginia which has a rather large river flowing beside it and I found some of the most beautiful rocks that I had to bring home with me. I rode those beautifully smooth rocks around in myy car for months. There is only one rock remaining and it was the best shaped one and I always think of that trip whenever I see the rock.

Betty, thank you for the invitation for some of us to come and visit, but I think that I would prefer warmer weather. ha-ha I still have in the back of my mind that I am going to get to your place at some point and hopefully get a few painting lessons from you. We will see.

Starzz, now I remeber you speaking of your sister who lives in Myrtle Beach. I am glad that they got home safely even if the trip was so long.

Everyone have a good day today. Take care and keep warm.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all...

Stacey, you said you had a scare OMG driving in that weather right..and more today..just looked outside, great day to finish off projects...

Carol got to make your fudge..I was dying for something sweet last night and resorted to a box of chocolates my brother brough on Sunday, don't like it as once they are open I'm so tempted to eat them all...

Had a full day yesterday with visiting and playing Mrs. Claus with some older relatives...then off to friends so today I'm going to be productive..

OMG Liz that is snow...let's hope it doesn't keep coming...is it a day at the 'inlaws' today???

I have an old family friend who was always at all our family functions, always around, asked you to pray for him a few months ago, well it's not nice to say, but he should have died then...he is dying anyway and now they've resorted to cutting off his leg on Friday and if things continue as is the other will shortly be taken as well...it would have been better to pass on quietly, given meds to ease the pain...now this...I won't try to get into the hospital today, but will in the a.m..

Ruby, know that winter is not the best time to travel, would say my doors are open this spring/summer and fall..and how I would love to have you all visit....

Having fun with Cedric and Bailey...Janice should have him for New Years'..they are just adorable and do so entertain me...

My visit is on this link

OMG...Snowed all afternoon yesterday!!

Liz, Our company came and went all day long. with the snow and all...
Wow ended up having about 30 guests. What a wonderful gathering.
Betty, was going to post in the Victorian Santa thread...Everyone LOVED, my Santa's.
Adorned my (the one I;m keeping) Santa with a a staff and belt. Guests just raved and talked about them
all day long...Couldn't believe i made them. My Santa's Staff even has a working light...a tea candle holder!
LOL, might have to put a different candle in it but...WOW, makes a huge difference to his effect. Hehehe, told them how you made the faces and painted sent the basic kits...Our Aunti Jean was telling everyone about the sleighs we did last year...

Dinner was incredibly awsom. Yuck today, clean up! Only one disaster an that was, someone broke one of my favorite coffee cups.
Wouldn't be a big tadoo but, i have had the coffee cup for some 15 years...was at work, survived many a project for years....
bring it home and someone broke it in the sink. Never said oh I'm sorry i broke a mug, just left it there. I was pretty upset, even after saying still no one owned up to breaking it!...MAN what a bummer.
Well I guess i have to be over it, Jacob said he is going to fix it. If he can then it will become another pen holder...Guess I can live with it.

We exchanged DVD's. This way no one was disappointed....LOL Was fun to see what movie we got. We open gifts according to age, Jacob being the youngest was first...Then OHWAH, I was next after the younger people...hehehe was so giggling about that. I got a favorite..The New adaption of Oliver Twist!! and popcorn!!! was a nice touch, lol I was jumping up and down with that. Then whoever got from that same family also got popcorn, what fun that added to the gift! LOL, I usually don't see many movies and the reason i came up with O.T. was jacob and friend had to do a reading for class they were practicing and i taped it, thats when it hit me...Just love Oliver Twist. LOL, didn't even know there was a new adaptation! Was saying the first time I ever saw it was a musical, when I was about 10.
Always loved the "Who will buy my beautiful roses?" song.

Overall, the gathering was delightful.

OK, Will be back later, got to begin clean up so i can play!

Yes Betty, the kids are getting excited. Luckily they all only have one big request that won't send us too the poor farm.

Ruby, your cake has been baked all over DG!! Heheh, so in a way, you have made it more then once, and I have to add quite sucessfully and messy too. lol.

Gita, thanks for the link from Sall's article...Very informative!

Also forgot to tell you, I received a lovely book from Cuz...Flower Fairies of Winter, a lovely book of poems on fairies, very cute fairy illustrations...Just beautiful!

Oh Betty...Mrs. Santa's outfit is splendid!!
Love her Apron.

You sure are keeping Cedrick busy! Bet he sleeps like a baby.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, that’s about the same place my Stepfather-in-law is in. They’ve only taken a couple toes so far, though it was close a couple times, but he can barely walk, needs full time help, has diabetes and some other issues, and just got diagnosis with level 3 Kidney failure. At this point it’s not if he will die, but how long and how much pain before he gets there.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Bev,

I love your kaleidescope pictures! How do you do that from a picture?

Besides note cards--I can see these as designs on doilies and table runners. Also on T-shirts, aprons, sun catchers, stained glass projects, ceramic plates and bowls and napkins. Call a paper napkin manufacturer and offer them your designs--for a good price, of course.

There are endless options......

You take such nice pictures. Why not profit from them?

Gita

Don't know why Laura when the end is so close that they do these operations..haven't they been through enough..

On New Years Day morning when Roger was in so much pain, Greg asked the doctor to do something, he said if they did dialisis it would shorten his life span..hello..he was only going to live days anyway..Greg spoke with him and they did do it, made him comfortable, almost relaxed, of course 12 to 12 that night he passed on..they said having it done quicken his death..for us as a family, thank God!!!!

Photo out my window...blizzard, high winds, good time to be home not having to go out for the next 14 days..lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Gita, never even thought of make it into a stained glass piece..

If it keeps snowing like it has been and I'm housebound, just might have to try it..lol..

You've such creative ideas...

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, I agree, I suppose it's the persons choice.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

The snow is still coming down! I can't tell you how many years it has been since we got it this bad!!! The neighbor kids had a house guest from California who decided to drive to Seattle tonight for his flight out late tomorrow.......he got stuck 3 times in the driveway and twice in the first 25 feet on the street....I just pray he makes it to Seattle without injury....he does not know how to drive in the snow!! We are not getting any of the wind here, just snow and more snow!!

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

You forgot the freezing rain that put a good layer of ice on top of the snow last night.

Pacifica, CA

trisha send it to me!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, that Mrs Clause outfit is so pretty! I can't wait to see the platter your going to paint. Please show us your work in progress please?
Ladies stay warm, and stay safe if you have to go out anywhere!
