Great shots!! I never know why my Red Cloak blooms later than anyone else's....

phughes, I will definitely check out the marketplace for daylilies. I would prefer to have a few rebloomers, as I intend to replace the monkey grass edging with day lilies. A DG got me hooked on daylilies when she offered a box of assorted lilies to the first ten people that responded.

Rj, I read your blog, I too am guilty of overdoing the ferterlizer bit, mostly superbloom.
If everyone in the world were gardeners-------- There would always be free plants everywhere. Garderners would rather share than sell

gothqueen, you have so many nice unusual plants, thanks for showing us your variegated Frydek

joeswife, so sorry about your rangoon creeper, I have tried rooting the Blue sky vine and the rangoon creeper without any luck. You are right, it is a awesome plant.

I have monkey grass too. They were already here when we bought the house and there are just too much of them to dig out, so I planted some Spider Lilies behind them. The Spider Lilies only bloom late summer, early autumn, but that's OK.

Red Oak, TX

candela, It is so nice to see all your buds and Blooms. The Brug Super Nova that you gave me, bloomed earlier this month, those are the biggest brugs. that I have ever seen. The purple spike are fixing to bloom real soon and the little palm is putting out a new leaf. The mango died (sad). All of the begonias are doing very good, I even bought a few more of them.
I enjoyed all of your pictures, they are so welcomed on these cold dreary days.

LiliMerci, I have this love hate relationship with monkey grass, they are taking over.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

They are green like tall grass. Around here, some people use it as an edge for pine island area. If you have pine island on a hill, it will help keep the pine straws in place so they won't wash down the hill. However, I have them growing on the side of my sidewalk. Hate them, they don't do anything but multiply and I can't even dig them out. They have purple flowers in the fall and then black-color berries. Probably how they multiply but too many to take off!

We mowed ours down in the spring and they come back nice and green in the summer.

Oh how I would love to be there this morning. It is currently 23 and everything is brown. One consolation, the birds are here by the dozens.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I love your fern, RJ!

It's 43 here this morning and tomorrow high is only going to be in the low 30's! Brrrr! And windy too, but the sun finally came out. We've had gloom and rain (but very warm weather) for over a week now.

Gainesville, FL

We were toodling along today at about 75F or so...when I woke up this morning, the overnight LOW had only been 64. I went out for a 16 mile training run and was really sweating by the time I got back. Later this afternoon I was out planting some stuff in a bed I am re-doing, and all of a sudden rain blew up out of nowhere. It didn;t last very long, but about an hour and a half later, the temp has fallen noticeably. I had to wear a flannel when I just walked the dogs (I was out in shorts and a T shirt earlier). Our low tonight and tomorrow is supposed to be 36, then it is supposed to warm right back up in time for Christmas.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Sounds like us...our nighttime low, was higher than our daytime High.
We were 77F last night, and 50 today headed down to the low 30's.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

How about 19-20 by morning? And we worked in the yard Friday and Saturday. No wonder the plants can't take it. Randy, think the clerodendrum will come back from the roots? It is heavily mulched but looks pretty brittle. whaaaa whine

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes...it sure will. They freeze to the ground on the outskirts here and come back every year. If not, I've got plenty

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh I love that cleodendrum.. I have several and I had to bring them in for the winter.. it gets to below freezing here ( as it is right now in the wondchill factor) they seem to enjoy where they are for now tho...my cestrum elegans is flushing like crazy down here!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Rj, thanks for showing a picture of the little blue flower, I checked on mine and I can see a little blue showing. I also have one bud on the chalice vine, which saved it from being yanked out. It's like a big octopus in my little GH

LIliMerci
joeswife, here is a picture of the monkey grass that I like, it gets to about 3-4ins and is well behaved. I have it growing between the flagstones on the walkway.
Your creeping seedums sounds like a good plant for a spot where grass will not grow.

robcorreia, it is such a treat to have color this time of the year, I love the glossy green leaves on your plant.
This is the only plant that I have blooming right now, so I will have to show her again.

JPlunket, I like the purple undersides of the leaves on your clerodendron. Don't forget to show us what it looks like when you get to Viaques.

GordonHawk, that is a very interesting plant and a good picture, it looks like another candidate for a good ground cover plant.
It has been cold but now are in a warming trend.

Rita, I really like the monkey grass, do you know the botanical name so I can look in plantfiles? Same with the gorgeous orange vine of yours, I love pendulous flowers, what is it called?

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I am scared to plant ANY monkey grass, but thanks for showing me the picture.

Red Oak, TX

robcorreia, the Dwarf Mondo grass is 'Gyoku Ryu' (Ophiopogan Japonicus)
The orange flower plant is not a vine, it is Mother-of-thousands,or Mexican hat plant.(kalanchoe daigremontianum) it is a very easy to grow plant, here is a baby growing in a banana plant.

MY CHRISTMAS E-MAIL

I have a list of people I know, all logged in my computer,
and now at Christmas time I have gone to take a look
and that is when I realize that these names are a part,
not of the computer they're stored in, but of my heart.

For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime,

and in that meeting they've become the rhythm in each rhyme

and while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim,

I feel that I'm composed of each remembered name.

And while you may not be aware of any special link,

just meeting you has changed my life, a lot more than you think!

For when I do a Christmas E-mail that is addressed to you,

it's because you're on the list of people I'm indebted to.

And whether I have known you for many years or few,
in some way you have been a part of shaping things I do
and now that Christmas has come, I realize anew,
the best gift life can offer is meeting people like you.

A MERRY CHRISTMAS SEASON to you
AND HAVE A HAPPY, HEALTHY
AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR !

Dallas, TX

Very eloquently said! Every One have a Merry Christmas and a Very Merry Tropical and safe New Year! Jerry
