Patty, what a stunning plant!
Do you trim it at all? Mine is getting to be over my head now.

looks like a young Pygmy Date Palm (Phoenix roebeillini)( I probably misspelled roebellini)

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Rj no trimming yet; not sure if I will. Some of the lower branches maybe.

Red Oak, TX

phughes, thanks for the new thread.
It sure is cold in Red Oak today, so far everything in the GHs are doing fine. I am not looking forward to the electric bill. I had to fire up the kerosene heater also, now the GH smells like kerosene.
This is Amaryllis night star, second spike blooming.

This is a mother of thousands plant. All of the buds have not opened up yet, so be warned, I will be showing her off again. I waited a long time for it to bloom. It is a very unusual looking plant, and is a eyecatcher in the GH. I am constantly weeding out her babies.

Joeswife, that is a good looking Pigmy Date Palm, I will have to do a little research to see how hardy they are.

plancenciarita, the Amaryllis Night Star, has to be the most beautiful one I've seen. Had never seen it in any of the catalogs I receive. Thanks for posting. Lee

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Rita was that white alocasia Frydek on the link I sent you or was it on noveltyg? I remember seeing one and I thought about bidding on it too. It sure was pretty. I'm going to wait and see what the Zebrina I won looks like and then maybe purchase some more from that site.

Hey Rj how cold was it in Houston this go round? freezing???

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

No freezing, although I did bundle up the ae. I think it was 34F at the lowest.

Frydek...I was wondering what the name of those are

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

For any of you that like cannas, check out the horn canna co op interest thread.

Red Oak, TX

Leeflea51, I found a few new amaryllis at a local nursery here in Dallas, I bought four of them, the Chico and Night Star have bloomed. I am still waiting on the Emerald and Lemon Star to bloom.

phughes, the alocasia Frydek is on noveltg.
I am getting prepared for the next cold front, making sure that I have my back-up heaters in working condition, with enough fuel, just in case the electricity goes off.
Congrats. on winning your alocasia zebrina.

drapelady, thanks for the heads up on the canna co-op, I had leaf roolers real bad last year. I am waiting to see if all this cold weather will wipe them out for next year before I buy any more. I am sure the others will be happy to purchase a few.
I would like to buy a few new daylilies though.

Good Morning All
Hi Rj

There usually are day lilies for sale on DG marketplace. You're lucky cause you can buy the dormant type for your zone. Dormants seem to me to always be such pretty vibrant colors. I have to stick to evergreen DL. not nearly as pretty as some of the dormant cultivars are. Are you looking for anything in particular?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Rita, and all.
Been busy in airline world..Christmas rush has started, and the weather is definately not cooperating..Snow from Seattle to Las Vegas and looks like a major snow headed for the Northeast tomorrow.. I'm happy I'm not working!

Here's this weeks blog "A little, is a lot!"

Loved the blog. I thought I was the only gardener who fried plants using too much fertilizer (remember my rangoon creeper) . . . definately glad you added that last paragraph about plant shopping!!!!! Good read, RJ.

Gainesville, FL

I have that variegated Frydek you saw. Let me hunt up the photo,,,

love your variegated Frydek; I should have ordered the one I saw on ebay. Very nice!

Gainesville, FL

Thanks. I've had it for a couple of years. It is very finicky, tends to go dormant when it is not exactly happy (like periods of lower light from short days in winter)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Oh I loved my rangoon creeper... I had no clue you had to bring it in during the winter tho and lost it.. it was so awsome!

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)
