Good morning. I'm starting a new thread.
We came from here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/931754/
Here is a Common Grackle lit up by the sun
Daily Pics Volume 162
Beautiful shots bebop! Love the Grackle.
Thanks for starting the new thread!
Rose,Wonderful shots on the last thread.
Bebop, the Grackle is gorgeous and that shot of the finches in the snow is a stunner.
From the previous thread: Burn, the Bohemian Waxwing is such a beautiful bird. Lovely little Grosbeak.
Methodical, you sure are doing well with the non IS lens. Gorgeous shots of the Cedar Waxwings and Yellow Rumped Warbler. Good colours.
Speaking of warblers, nice Palm Warbler GP and I see you're still keeping the Indigo Buntings to yourself.
Rose, I love the Mockingbird and the White Crowned Sparrow having a bath. Yes, can see the hawk just fine. Is that the brush pile in the background?
From this afternoon at the Osprey site, a Kookaburra being harried by two Willie Wagtails. The entire WWT is barely the size of the Kookaburras beak.
Wonderful shot Margaret!
Great shots everyone. My computer crashed and just got it back up and running. Hope to post some more pics soon
another bird bath shot, but taken from another angle (and through the sliding glass door hence the lines on the sides).
The mourning doves are "famous" here for keeping warm in the bird bath. Usually only a few at a time though. This is quite a gathering! The bad thing about them hanging out at the bath? They leave "presents"...a lot of them.
The other place they like to hang out is under the deck, on the SW side (which is right under the bird bath actually).
See how many you can count in this one. Now you can see why I can't have platform or other large-bird feeders -- in this number they take up the whole feeder and just sit in the feeders and eat (and leave more presents).
I've been leaving some mixed seed on the ground under the arbs on the property line for the juncos and cardinals (only the males go to the feeders for some reason). Of course the squirrels find it, but I have seen the juncos eating, so that makes me happy.
One thing I've noticed, however, is that the chickadees seem to prefer eating from the ground than at the feeders. As long as there is food on the ground, they'll get it from there, and only when it runs out do they go to the feeders (or when they don't see the ground food if they're coming from another direction).
This isn't a great picture, but you can see the specs of the seed on the ground, and the chickadee looking around. Plants are nearby, but I was still surprised to see it so out in the open.
I've only been taking pix from inside!! Cleaned the windows for it too :)
They're playing so well together. lately one goldfinch has been chasing any other birds away, including the chickadees. So greedy! :)
oh, and I'm so jealous about the wrens. so adorable
