You don't have to go to Tule Lake to get cold and see Eagles, while taking my dog to the Vets in Ft. Jones I got these pics of a Golden Eagle, and a little more along the way saw two Bald Eagles.
(Too bad the lighting was so poor. It was just getting to snow).

Daily Pics Volume 162
Cool....in 07 I saw a couple of GE during migration. I didn't see any this year and I really hoped to and maybe get a pic or two.
is this still a goldfinch? the bright yellow on the throat and above the beak is throwing me
Yep. Probably a male.
here's another one I'm not sure about. the finches always throw me.
House Finch, male. And yep, the one after is a female.

Hello Margaret, Good shot of the Doodaburra. For some reason, I find them amusing to look at. I don't think I'd be amused if a flock was perched outside my bedroom, though. Are they related to Kingfishers? Lee
P.S. correction: obviously I meant 'kookaburra' instead of 'doodaburra'. A real doofus am I.
Well, a koofus ;-) Yep, Kookaburra is a species of kingfisher.

Lee, (with apologies from me), the Doodaburra is a very laid back bird, as game as the Willie Wagtails that try to chase them away from their patch. At barbeques and picnics it's not unusual for one to fly down out of nowhere and snatch a snagger straight from some poor unsuspecting souls hand. The screams of the uninitiated can be heard from various parts of public open spaces where there's food around. It's hilarious to watch. Overseas visitors are the ones caught by surprise. They are not an aggressive bird although that beak is big and powerful and if you're even mistakenly bitten by one, you'd think you'd been bitten by a crocodile (or is that doodadile)?
As for the sound, it is so quintessentially Australian. It's really a beautiful sound to hear first thing on a still morning, when one starts and others join in until there are several Kookies "laughing" at once. With some imagination their call does sound like raucous laughter.
Hey, Lee, i LIKE "Dood"aburra.
Resin - Thanks!
Beautiful Grackle to start the new thread Bebop...thanks for starting it!
Thanks everyone for sharing your birds...they brighten up the cold and gloomy days of winter!
The cold temps have brought the birds to the yard in numbers...I am getting nothing done due to watching them! I keep thinking I will get something done...but so far I am too facinated with them.
This sweet female Purple Finch showed up this morning.
That cardinal with the little ice bits is just sooo coole Rose!!
Nice everyone. My blue bowl has bit the dust I guess. I'm going to have to hook up something new. I was gone for the weekend and DH did some feeding of the birds, but after the ice storm Sunday night, everything was covered. I got new feed put out today and now the SNOW is falling!
Glad you are seeing so much action Nanny...that Sapsucker is so adorable!
Mrs. Ed...hope this weather warms up a little. At least our area didn't get the snow or ice they were predicting!
That's good Rose, since you got your share last year.
Great pics everyone!
Rose, That's amazing you have so many Goldfinch!
Nice Sapsucker nanny!
All the pictures are great. Have had flocks of about the same groups you have.
Question: How is the blue bowl heated? Our bird bath/fountain is frozen solid even with DH opening it several times today. This is through the window as well. Had sleet and snow flurries this morning but didn't stick. Worst of all we are expected to have freezing fog in the morning. Becomes treacherous ice. I want to gather all the bird up and put them in the greenhouse to stay warm.
