Wow! you all must be done your... I think it's safe to say now.... since it's only a little over a week away... 'Christmas shopping' because you've been busy on here. lol : )
Starlight, you are so sweet offering me some plants thank you so much. : ) Perhaps I could send you something as well. : )
Cheles, Let me know if you need that obedient plant if you get on here, I'm going to stick it in your baggy if I don't hear back on it. Also your picture is beautiful! I too - think little girls are wonderful : ) even though I only have two. And I am probably done as well, but would love another if things were to change. Like we win the lottery lol and alls I have to do is take care of them. : ) Heck I'd probably have 3 more then! ; )
Danita, I think I almost bought that melon sage from bluestone, I had a hard time deciding wether to go with that or the reg. and I picked the regular. Maybe next year, I'm always game to experiment, I keep thinking if I get one from the right place I'll see blooms.
Lebug, are you sure you don't want me to add those liatris now? I did pay for extra postage and you don't want me to let it go to waste ; ) Also thank you so much for sending me those seeds : ) It sounds like you might hve the best seed strain for us growing in colder zones. According to what Dryad says. I can't wait to try! You have to let me know when to start them indoors. : ) If you are still having that awful weather stay safe and warm.
Singingwolf, I'm going to add those before I mail this out. I might get it to the mailbox at the P.O. - that they pick up at 7pm tonight - if not definitely tomorrow. I was going through my seeds today to see if I had anything else people were looking for and I have some catnip I got from a trade last year if you still need them. I do know they are definitely the real deal catnip because my Simba ate them all up before they could do a whole lot. I'll have to grow some in a cage like I've read somewhere here on DG - if I want to get them to seed stage. lol Thank you for your concern for me as well : ) We are fine here as far as warmth because we have a wood stove and we bought 2 cords of wood this fall - which if you don't know what that is - as I didn't until recently - it's a dang lot of wood! lol : ) I was losing my mind not having the computer though - I spend way too much time on it. I need to cut down a bit. lol
Seandor, Congratulations on being a soon to be grandma! : ) That must be so exciting : )
Robynest, That Kali is so beautiful, no wonder she got picked to be the winner : )
Yesterday I disappeared because it was 56 degrees! Talk about crazy weather. I promised my dd that I would take her outside to play and put up some christmas lights for her. She is 4 and this is the first time Christmas has been a really big deal for her. So it makes it fun. : )
Off to button up my envelope and get it out to star - I think if it's in the mornings mail - it'll still get there by the deadline - hopefully : ) It makes me nervous sending it off - I feel like I need to insure it or something. lol
CLOSED: Fall Piggy Swap #11
Thanks, My Grandma lives in Orlando, & most of her yard is sunny, she has a lake in the back (which flooded during a hurricane/tropical storm earlier this year) Zone 9, she only grows flowers, she is 89 & cant do veggies anymore, I help with her flowers & she does what she can.
Stephanie
Meredith - would love the obedient plant! Thank you! Our weather must be the same - maybe a day apart. We have had in the 50's as well until today. Back down to 25.....w/sleet. Brrrrr.. LOL at the cord of wood. We moved into our current house a year ago this week and it's the first time to have a wood burning fireplace (not gas) so I ordered a cord of wood - and laughed when the truck dumped it in the yard. You have two!! Wow! That'll definitely last you awhile.
Star... I brought my box to the po today. I've never gotten postage for a swap before. Ususally I just paypaled or sent cash. So I asked the mailman for postage for a 13oz box to your zip. I thought that was what I read in the directions. He looked at me a little weird. He handed me an envelope with stamps (I originally thought they printed you out a white slip but he said that they couldn't do that because it had a date on it). So, I put that in the box and sealed it up and returned to the counter to send it. I had 130 packs of seed in there, and figured on getting 100 back. I put the $3.21 worth of stamps in there. But when I sent the package, It cost $5.94 to send it to you. I can't imagine 30 packs of seeds costing that much difference to send. So I'm going to have to send you some stamps in the mail. Sorry for the problem.
Andrea
Andrea... mine too was more than i thought it would be... and i didnt even do Priority.
but i sent in a large shoe box and i should be getting less than 50 seed packs back... so i only included a bubble envie.
Okay girls I think what has happened here, is you are paying for the size boxes you sent. I know they are very particular about shapes and sizes and such at the PO ; ) I just stuffed mine in a big bubble envelope and asked the guy if it would fly? He said he didn't think it would fly but he could mail it for me lol : ) He said the envelopes are considered a flat and not a parcel and I told him that's why I went in because their website confuses me. He said even him and the other post woman argue about which they are. It would be nice if it were easier to figure out so I could just print postage here and know it's is right.
Beautiful family Cheles. : ) Your DH must love being surrounding by such beautiful "young women" (I'm including you)
I LOVE the American postal system. The Canadian system is horrible.
I've never used the Canadian postal system so I suppose I might just be taking our system for granted lol.
I forgot the part about how he said a flat can be bent but a parcel could not and he said the same package I was sending would go up if it could not be bent. Although I am already beginning to confuse myself. I think that a box of any kind is more expensive than a large envelope because of how he said, it can't be bent. You should see this envelope it is very stuffed lol. I am going to try to deflate the baggies if possible, I put everyones in individual sandwich baggies so there might be a little excess air in them. : )
Thanks Seandor - and everyone! He definitely likes being surrounded by girls. Hee hee. He gets the priveledge of saying.....they're all mine. :-)
I have a wonderful post office - ok, I'll rephrase that - I've gotten to know my mail person and he is a HUGE help. I can't always figure it out online either and I use Paypal shipping a lot (print my own postage, etc). When you get to know somebody by name, it makes it so much more personable.
Speaking of postage - Star...........I didn't even send stamps - just $$$. Is that ok?? I didn't even think about it until Andrea mentioned putting stamps in her box. I think I put some stamps in Tuink's envie, but that was for her postage. Hmmm?? So Star, please let me know if I need to do anything different. :-)
Terese, how do you make a circle smiley on here? I need a list of codes - I think they're all secret or something. I can't even copy and past a piggy. LOL!
Meredith were you born in 1979?
Meredith... thanks for all that additional info... maybe next time i'll use one of those 11x whatever envies.... though i do believe mine still woulda been a very tight squeeze. I had about 300 seed packs.
but still .... all in all it was about $16 and that is well worth the money spent ... i get a few new seeds and i get to 'spread the happiness' of new flowers to others.
well, i just checked Quicken and last year [the Suzy Swap] I sent in 2 envies, one was 1.64 and the other was 0.97
so last year i spent about 12.50 and got a TON of seeds... probably 200 varieties or more...
again... cash well spent.
Andrea... Don't worry about it. You'll be fine. : ) Yoru doign good for yoru first swap.
The post office drives me crazy. Bad enough they haven't figured out the prices for stuff yet. They all charge different, then starting january 16th or 18th the price of postage goign up again. priority boxes going up 50 cents and not sure how much stamps is going up. It getting rediculous.
Yes, but Americans get Saturday mail delivery - or at least we do in Massachusetts. There hasn't been Saturday delivery in Canada for almost 50 years!
chele -- check out the "Test" forum ... lots of lil neat doodies in there
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/782129/
as for extras tossed in ... i do think i tossed in some stamps for Tuink. At least i hope i did... i was planning on it.
as for my return postage... i tossed in a TEN for Star. after sending my packet, she can go get one of those expensive cups of coffee. *wink*
>>I can't even copy and past a piggy. LOL!
what do ya mean, copy/paste a piggy??
if you are talking an image... that would have to be downloaded and uploaded... it's not as simple as copy/paste when you are talking graphics.
no silly, remember I tried to past the oinking piggy - it was animated. A few threads back. Quite a cutie he was.
Money is fine, don't worry. I takign everythign to the post offic e all with me. I have stamps, money and money orders and checks. It all works. : )
>>but Americans get Saturday mail delivery
if you pay EXTRA, i think you even get sunday delivery during the holidays.
we love our PO .... nice quick service, and really - reasonable. Dh ships next day every now and then ... if it has to get there... and are willing to pay a bit extra ... you can't beat it.
ah yes that.... I asked a Moderator about that.... Dave has those things disabled... so even if we KNEW how to do it, we couldn't.
Tsc. Yep you had put some stamps in the envie to send to Tuink. You had them on the top of her envie.
^_^ Terese!!!!
OH good... Star.. you got my box.
LOL chele... glad i could make your evening....
Tsc.. so sorry my mistake. double checked tuinks pacjage with the stamps in it and it not from you. Nope your seeds not here yet. Yes, you can bean me, was lookign at the pile of seeds next to tuink which is yours for you. I was lookign over my shoulder at the tables piles.
I think mine went out on Monday ... the guy said "in about a week"
OH heck... i dont even know what day it is.... it's only TUESDAY... i have no idea when i mailed it... though i know i posted about it.... you should have it by weeks end....
Oh I'm so glad you are talking about stamps I almost just sealed my envelope up without them. and that is a yes to cheles ; ) I am most likely the baby of the bunch. ; ) or maybe no and it is when I graduated high school or college lol - jk
My 18 month just got hold of the envelope without me noticing and when I found it the postage was missing! So I found them on the floor and now they won't stick to the envelope! I even tried a glue stick, - can I tape over them or does that void them?
Meredith, You're two years younger than me! I've been gardening since I was about 14 and I've always been the baby of every gardening group. Only in the last few years have I started too find people my age and younger who are interested in gardening. And let me tell you, gardening is NOT a good hobby to help with finding datable men. Nor is my other hobby, musical theatre! LOL! :)
You can try taping the top and the bottom so the middle is left uncovered so they can stamp it to cancel.
Lol that is true about gardening not being the best way to find a date. I can just picture meeting a guy for the first time all cover in dirt and wearing the garden gear. If your like me you are a mess when gardening lol. No matter how hard I try not to I end up with dirt everywhere! It's good to know I'm not the only youngin - none of my friends my own age are into gardening at all. One of them won't even dig in the dirt cause she's scared of worms. How silly is that? I'm like, 'That's what garden gloves are for honey!' ; ) What in the world would someone find scary about a worm? It's not like it's gonna bite ya : O
Btw now I can't find my tape - I think she got that too! Oh man- rolling eyes
Yeah, a lot of women seem to be scared of worms. Snakes I can understand because they will bite, but a worm? Maybe they just don't want to mess up their manicures by gardening. I've resigned myself to never having pretty fingernails. :(
Oh no! Is she jealous of your seeds? :)
I wondered Meredith - when do we get to celebrate your big 30 this coming year? I LOVE being 30 - finally felt like an adult and that others took me seriously. At least I thought. Ha!
I can tell you that is EXACTLY why my bff doesn't garden - she'll break a nail............get dirty......whatever. She's a girly girl to the max, but she loves my gardening and especially the fresh veggies. ^_^ She goes to the spa, I go take a mud bath. Hee hee. And yes, she's jealous of my eggplants.
Yes, jealous exactly : ) I finally have this all set to mail - thank goodness. I've been working on this since friday or 3 days straight according to dh. ; )
I'm not even scared of snakes - as long as they aren't poisonous anyway. If I was gardening and happened upon a snake and knew it could kill me if it bit me then I'd be a little frightened. A few weeks back I had a close encounter with a skunk on my back porch looking for trash - I steeped out the door and it was right there - like 1' away. Man did that freak me out - I thought I was going to get sprayed for sure. I froze for a second then turned around and ran in the house as fast as I could screaming! He was a cute little bugger though. I think it was just a babe. My dh was yelling at me to close the door so it wouldn't come in behind me but I just wanted to get away and I thought the door would scare him even more. He took off probably at the same exact moment as me. lol
Hey cheles I didn't refresh the page so I missed ya. That reminds me that I used to be a primped up hairdresser with acrylic nails and a pedi 24-7, I mean I'd be an hour late to a party before I'd go with chipped polish. Now I have short nails, no polish, ponytail and 'in season' perma dirt under my nails lol. I can't just blame gardening though it started when I had my first daughter. I didn't want to do anything but be with her. : ) The things we do for our kids : )
LOL at someone being scared of worms! And to think, I do all I can to encourage them, and feel awful when I cut them in half digging...
And I'm another young'un..just 31, here...but I was NEVER a girly-girl, I was always out riding my bike, digging in the dirt and bringing home assorted animals. (snakes included)
In fact, I've always said that having to be made-up all the time would constitute torture for me :)
The good thing is that I have been slowly trying to lure my girlier friends into the gardening world..one is getting there..she had morning glories come up last year and bloom and she was soooo excited! For Christmas I am giving her some fun new MG seeds I found, enabler that I am, hehe
Before I seal up the package,
I have some odds and ends on my list left and also these:
1 Sunflower 'Teddy Bear', 15 seeds 2008
2 Penstemon smallii, contains some chaff 2007
If you want them speak up NOW! :)
Danita -- i'll give the sunflowers a shot. I just have troubles with them because the rabbits eat the seedlings... but i can try to plant them out once the stalks are thicker.
Ahh, Meredith.... My 22 month old found the seed box while I was getting Stars address online and was dismantling it one by one. Dumping the contents of each baggie out all over the place. Good thing I wrote each seed packet on everyones card. She is Kylee the Menace. A sweet angel looking baby and full of mischievous behavior! She loves to get caught. Full of lots of games and lots of smiles. She's "the baby" of my 3 girls. My other 2 are almost 6 and 15. It's a wild time here :-)
I'm only 9 years older than you. When I was your age, I wasn't gardening yet. I was still a cocktail waitress for a Casino. Now I did fish and change diapers with my long polished nails, but I don't think the dirt would have bode well for me at checkin when the Managers made sure you went out on the floor looking your best. That was something they checked. I wouldn't pass now with my own stubby fingernails with a pots worth of dirt underneath, leftover makeup, and the bun or ponytail I stuck my hair up into. It's amazing what a few years, a few more kids and a great big yard will do! LOL!
The box I sent it in was maybe 7" x 8". It was almost square and small. I stuffed them all in. A box like that costs extra? Since I was getting a bunch back I wanted to make sure I sent the box in, but I'm concerned that an average box that contains 100 seeds will be more than the 13oz. I sent mine parcel post. It was 1lb 3.6oz. I still don't get all these shipping charges. I'm still going to send some stamps just in case. It's just going to make me worry :-)
Andrea
Good morning everyone we have some snow this morning. It is our first snow with accumulation this year. So I have a school delay. On my way in, I am going to drop my envelope off at the post office so it gets out a little earlier. If I put it in my mailbox they don't pick it up until around 2 pm., so it wouldn't get out as early.
I am so glad I'm not the only youngin and I realized later, that cheles asked me when my b-day was. So to answer it is May 30 and I see from your dg homepage that you are a Gemini as well. At least I think it starts on the 22nd so you are right on the cusp. You all are making me wish we lived closer so we could all get together! We would have so much fun with our dirty fingernails and ponytails! : )
Artemiss, I am the same way about the worms - I hate when I find one chopped in half while digging! I make myself feel better by telling myself that they can turn into two worms - but that is probably a myth? My friend that is scared of worms is showing a small interest in planting stuff, so I've offered to go over and help her make a small garden so she won't have to run into any worms. We'll see if it ever happens. It will be hard to find time, because I have so much to do in my own yard. This place was pretty much a dump site before we moved here, or so I'm told by the neighbors. But you could tell the people did nothing with the yard - not even mow the lawn of weeds. : )
Mygypsyrose - that is a great picture! What a beautiful group of girls you all are so photogenic! : ) Kylee sounds a lot like my Cheyenne (sounds like Shyann) : )
I'm not sure what the deal with the PO is - you get a different price from different employees. I am worried mine doesn't have enough postage now after hearing what everyone else had to pay! I have $2.72 on it and the postman put another small bubble mailer I was mailing on top of it - when he weighed it. To give me a little room for adding stuff in. I think he said it weighed a little over 9 ounces but I can't remember if that was before or after he added the bubble envelope witha couple packs of seeds on top. I do know it seems like using a box ends up costing a lot more than a big envelope though. The last swap I had an envelope and asked how much more it would be in a box and I think it went up over $1. Just so you know they have really big bubble envelopes that I bet would fit the amounts of seeds most people are sending - but I know some of you are sending in a ton. So in that case you really would need a box lol. : ) I don't have the totall tally on mine on hand, I think it was inn the eighties, but towards the end I ran out of small baggies and started using the big ones. They make it look like there is less seeds and I found myself dumping lots in them to compensate. lol So there are lots of seeds in most of the baggies I'm sending, unless it was something I didn't have a lot of.The extras are in large baggies because I ran out of baggies and I'm not sure how many people they will be divided amongst so I figured star could just split them however she needs to. I hope that is okay. : )
I would post a pic but I don't have many that I'm in with my girls but here is one of me and my 4 year old Shayla (you can see Chey's back of her head too ) : ) http://www.myspace.com/flutterbuggarden

How do you all have time to garden and be online with little ones!? My daughter is 7, and just recently I really found time to garden! When she was 2... no way! Wish I had some gardening friends here... thank goodness for you all here on Dave's!
Here are my two sweeties on a trip to Charleston. Not gardeners, but perfect in most other ways!
