We came from here:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/931000/
While all our regular spots are filled up, we still have room for any storm surviors!
A special welcome to any whose gardens fell victim to storm, flood, or fire... please join us by posting in this thread and by posting a "wish list" over on the lists thread. We have lots of seeds we would share with our storm victim gardens. All you need to do is ask for anything you see.
Seed Swap Lists can be found here:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/923393/
With holding this swap between two major holidays, alot of folks be will be traveling and doing things to get ready for the holidays and sending their seeds in early.
To save from havign to go all the way back to the first post, when you get ready to send your seeds in, here is what to do. If you have questions, please ask or dmail me.
THINGS TO PACK UP FOR THE SWAP:
1. Your seeds. added: Since I need to send back as many packs as people send in, I need some help counting. LOL! On the baggies that are tagged for certain people, I would like the number of packs you've enclosed for that person written on the slip of paper with their name so that I don't have to go rooting through to count them.
2. Return address label (or piece of paper I can tape) to use on bubble mailer you send to me. I have plenty of labels, just make sure I have your mailing address.
3. Postage to return your mailer to you. If you have 100 packs, use postage for 13 oz. and consider sending me a little box instead of an envie.) added: If you want extra packs back, really, really consider that box! And pay attention to the postage amount you send me as it will cost more than what you sent in. Do not be stingy on this postage. I have plenty of small boxes, for those that will need their seeds going back in one
4. A sheet of paper with your:
1. name,
2. address,
3. email,
4. DG name,
5. Number of seed packs sent, and number of seed packs wanted back
6. Description of your garden, and yourself as a gardener and grower from seed (new, middle, experienced.)
7. 10 things you want (no limit for IKE / GUSTAV folks, though can't guarantee how many will be sent back),
8. 10 things you don't want, and
9. a list of the seeds you are sending of all the loose packs that are not earmarked for another player.
5. Addendum: Due to the sheer volume, these envelopes or boxes will need to be sent back to you with delivery confirmations. Also, since postage & confirmation costs have gone up, and since I may also need a few extra bucks for more postage either for storm survivors or for other participants who may unwittingly not have sent in enough; or for larger envies or boxes than folks send, let's each send in $1.50 in addition to return postage. I will return any extra postage that isn't needed in each person's box or envie.
SPECIAL NOTE: Any of those participants listed on the Storm Victims List.. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY POSTAGE. No postage is needed from you. We hope you enjoy our gift to you and may you once again have a nice garden.

Any piggies for em. from now til I seal the boxes I will be finding stuff for ya to oink on. Wil try adn put them together in a list for all at once, but foudn thes elast night and before I forget where I put em again, figure I better ask. LOL
Starlight, if you get a chance, could you please check the top of the "lists" thread and see if I've got all the swappers on the list? Thanks!
Cheles_garden, I just realized going back through the previous thread that I'd forgotten to comment on your "Italian tomato" story, which I loved. I've got a tomato I've been growing for several years, passing seeds back and forth with a friend and her mom... they'd lost the name (she called it "Jill's tomato" and I called it "Therese's tomato"), so I just started referring to it as "Friendship tomato." I was elated one year when we discovered the original seed packet (from Italy) in her stash and excitedly posted on the tomato forum that I now knew the name of the tomato! Pomodoro! Carolyn posted and gently informed me that "Pomodoro" simply meant "tomato" in Italian. LOL!
Oh ya critter, make me do more paprwork, LOL ; )
Here ya go. Missing.... Me.. Starlight1153 and Maxine.
Those that need to be removed that were gonan start but never did.... Daylily Daddy.. Afonson.. Primrose Sue .
I have 42 people if I counted right.
I'm getting my box ready to send tomorrow and guess what lol I've already filled the one I had for last year with request envelopes I may have to send two boxes I don't think there is room in there for the extra seeds I'm sending lol Isn't that a hoot? LOL I don't mind sending two boxes I just think it's funny :) And nope I don't have a bigger box lol
Pam, I want your snow, we have had flurries a few times but no accumulative snow yet, it's so purdy coming down but a lot of work shoveling I sure don't miss that part! They are saying we will have more snow this year than usuall but don't say when, I bet it'll be from Jan. on, that's when we usually get our snows anyway. Stay safe don't you risk having a wreck trying to get to the post office, maybe you should wait until Tues. and the roads are a little better :)
hi
in case some people missed..i have some commercial sweet pepper 'fat and sassy' that i got a good number of seed left.
pack would be ten or more seeds
dmail me if you are interested
i should be going to the post office tomorrow..the snow will hang around for days if it is going to start freezing tonight and all week.. we will see how cold the weather is going to be.
ella..got you down
you can have some of my snow lea...i am sort of glad that i have snow before the big freeze that way i know my outdoor plants will be insulated.
pam
Lea -- i had mine all nicely aligned in a box, and quickly outgrew it... i ended up using a shoe box .... Funny how i buy shoes just so i can use the boxes.
our snow is melting.... we are expecting low 50's today, with temp plummeting tonight to possibly teens for tomorrow.
biggest problem with that is.... all that melting snow will quickly freeze [on the streets -- OH great.. Black Ice]
and cause all sorts of problems.
I've already warned my son, who will be working late to be wary.
and with the salt shortage.... **shakes head**
LeBug... LOL.. Just put your foot in the box and squish emall down. LOL. Or Jump onthem like ya do a suitcase and tape fast. heheheh
Thanks PamSue.. For you and anybody else. If the weatehr bad. Don't be tryign to go to po and mail boxes. Wait til the eather better. The boxes don't have to get right here on the 20th. They wil goign all out at the beginign of the New Year, so please. don't takes woith yoru lives. Want to see ya al be able to plant these seeds.
Starlight, I would like some of the Mexican Bird of Paradise seeds.
Critter - you made me laugh so hard that DH came in and made me share. We have the same tomato!! I now have a name I can put on it. Giggle.... tomato! Yep, it's a tomato. That is hilarious - thanks for sharing.
Toofew - I will definitely be saving seeds for next year and will put them in the trade. Since we're continuing this thread I can keep you posted on how well I do with them. If all else fails I can dress the girls in black and go under cover at night to sneak a tomato. Hee hee. Kidding! He brings me bags toward the end of the season anyway - but hoping I can grow them myself too.
Amazingly, he grows a row down the side of his house in with a row of roses. Now this is not inside a fence and beside a fairly busy street. I keep imagining teenagers stealing them to go throw at something....but he said that no one ever bothers them. The rest of his garden is behind a fence.
I never did get out to water my p lants before the hard freeze it was here before I knew it and it was too cold to go out and water plants, I still have my hose out there lol It's open though so it doesn't freeze, I'm keeping it out there this year cause I have to clean the litter boxes all the time, there is no way I'm doing it in the house they are soo gross! lol I'll see how my hoses overwinter lol I may find myself out buying new ones in the spring!
I have shoe boxes but they are full of little stuff lol I'll look and see if I can transfer some of it to something else lol Last year that box was over stuffed so I figured it would go this year but I must have more seeds for this year lol
These street people really trip me out they use all the salt before we have a good snow then wonder why they ran out!
LeBug you're giving me nightmares of waterhoses in the snow. When I was 9 we lived in Wyoming - Rocky Mountains - so the snow we got each year was.......a lot. I was running across a neighbors yard and tripped and broke my arm (landed on the sidewalk). Lo and behold, they had left their garden hose out across their front yard all winter. Found it!
Oh Chele! No one ever comes around here so the hose won't be a problem lol It's outta my way lol
It's Heavinscent's birthday today,
Happy Birthday Heavinscent! :)
klstuart, don't worry about your little seed baggies, I love seeing how people get creative with their seed packets and take notes most of the time lol I just use the wax paper for some of my seeds then put tape on them to write the names on them :) can't use it for bigger seeds though they come thru the wax paper :)
tcs, I only pay 97 cents for a pack of 100 of those baggies at wally world lol It must be a lot higher to live where you are but here is one of the cheapest places to live in the US, that's what I have heard anyway.
Happy Birthday, Heavinscent! Please tell us what we can add to your stash as a gift! :-)
Starlight, I updated the list -- 44 regular participants, 7 disaster survivors.
Has anybody else noticed that the WalMart baggies got a lot more flimsy this year? I have a pack or two left from last year, and I'll hang onto those for "storage" of my stash seeds... I picked up 8 new packs, which should hopefully hold me for a while depending on how many people jump into that pepper seed co-op, LOL.
My package is on it's way as of Friday.
I noticed the bags being lighter the time before last when I got seed bags Critter, I got one bag then picked another and it was half as light as the other one I was afraid there weren't enough bags in there so I tried to find one that had the same weight but guess that was just the last one of the older ones, I hope these hold up as well as the other ones.
I think they'll be fine for trade packs, but as I said I'm going to save my sturdier ones for my "stock" baggies that I open and close a zillion times.
Well I finally have all my tagged seeds all set. Now I just have to figure out everything else! lol
Does anyone know how we are working the donation seeds? Like should I send an extra envie and if so what size? And should I send extra postage, like I"m thinking enough to at least cover what I have tagged for those, plus maybe a little extra towards others?
Did we already talk about the details of this?
Critter. I think I missed Pyromomma on your list if you haven't already added her. I not sure exactly how many we got at the moment. It a bunch for sure.
AJNTEXAS. If ya can please list here on this thread or send me Dmail, of some of your wants and likes, so I can try and fill your box with goodies you want and like instead of just sendign ya a box of surprises alone. LOL Got ya down for Mexican Bird of Paradises. : )
Happy Birthday Heavenscent! May your day be filled with joy and happiness!
Meridith, just send em with yoru regular seeds and now extra envie needed for them. I have everything for our folks rebuildign there gardens , their boxes and envies all here.
Meredith -- i just sent all my 'donated' seeds / Extra seeds in a bigger bag that says, Extras on it.
Okay star, I was just going through the wishlists on the list thread and I see Critter and Wind don't have one. For some reason I think I may have promised one of you something but I can't find anything on any of my lists. So can you lmk if your expecting something from me. If there is anything you want maybe you could put a couple wishes up. Hint Hint.
I am going through the wishlists and adding stuff for people, that I might not have much of, but can send a small pack to someone who really wants or needs it : ) - They are things I never listed on my main list. ; )
Thanks tcs, : ) I cross posted with you. : )
I have 10 clematis seeds up for grabs. They are pink, bell-ish shaped and I suspect they're a texensis hybrid. The mother plant looked similar to the pics in the link below but I don't know the real name.
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/102799/
Oink! Danita, I would love to try that clematis.
Oink acknowledged!
Critter, did you see my post - how I feel like I am supposed to be sending you something? Am I ? : )
I have no idea what I am getting. I ask, but never mark down what I asked for that way I get surprised when I get my box. I even being good so far and haven't peeked at mine. That way I'll be surprised when everybody else is. LOL Ya I weird.
Meredith, if I had oinked for anything I see on your list, it might have been the wild bergamot -- but I no longer need that one since I just got a pack in the native plant swap. Otherwise, I'm good. Thanks for checking!
As for wishes, I guess I should add that to my list a well as putting it on my note for Starlight... I have a little home orchard and can use any shorter (up to 18") perennial or reseeding annual that I can sow there (zone 6b). My favorite flower colors are purple, pink, and white... yellow is fine, although I have plenty of yellow out there already... only dislikes are peach and orange tones, although I'll plant something like a zinnia mix regardless. :-)
Starlight, I haven't been keeping track either! Hopefully I didn't oink for doubles from different people... tried to be aware of that at least. :-)
Oh goody I'm glad you gave us some ideas : )
I don't remember what I'm getting, but I did try to keep track of how many I asked for. I was trying to be a modest piggy this year. I don't want a repeat of last year. : ) I had sooo many seeds and I have something wrong with me and had to start at least a little of everyting! Well I had so much stuff to plant out I never finished! lol I still have stuff in pots that hopefully will make it through the winter for next year! : )
Found a few more to share:
1 Catnip - commercial seed 2004
1 Sunflower 'Teddy Bear', 15 seeds 2008
2 Penstemon smallii, contains some chaff 2007
I know what ya mean Meredith... last year someone would say... Oh - i have some of these... and i'd be like... Sure, toss it in my bucket, half the time not sure what it was. Kinda like that RattleBox. Though this spring, i will just stick the seeds in the ground and see what pops up.
I'm trying to pay more attention to what i WANT to grow.... Drought tolerant and attracts butterflies, bees and the sort.
and that wild, colorful prairie look [cottagy] and i'm getting there....
Danita... now that i have a cat... could you toss me the Catnip?
Sure, the catnip belongs to Charlie now!
I have been curled up all afternoon in front of the fireplace reading - a winter hobby I do with the girls. Wanted to share with yall - the book is "Lasagna Gardening with Herbs" by Patricia Lanza. Got it at the library and LOVE it!!
Of course the lasagna part is a chapter........the rest of the book is about herbs, the best of the best, what each herb can be used for, etc. It is just a delightful book and oh I forgot to mention the recipes - using all the fresh herbs. Oh and a chapter on edible flowers - again with ideas and recipes. Not to mention the warnings and flowers to stay away from your palatte. :-) I'm not going to want to give it back to the library......just started eating flowers this year - so now for some expansion.
Speaking of new plants.......all you piggies loved the salvias for this swap - anyone have Pineapple Sage? It's my new must have. :-)
Cheles. Remidn me in the spring and I will send ya a plant. I gave the last of my seed to ILove Jesus and not sure if I have any more left but wil look, but have lots of plants of it.
Thanks Star! I also finished my plant database/spreadsheet - now I can easily glance through it to see exactly what I have instead of thinking "I thought I saw some seeds for that somewhere". Hee hee. Love the spreadsheet!!!
I've got the shopping done and the gifts wrapped under the tree - now we can just sit back and enjoy the holiday! Next I'll be cutting and drilling all those jugs that I need to fill..... Woo Hoo!!
