I don't care for those tall salvias I have some that reseed the Bonfire and I let them go but I wouldn't plant them again I like the shorter ones 3' and under :)

OMG , I could have never done all of those seeds in one day Robin lol I bagged all of my extras so they wouldn't be all over the place in the box and it would be easier for Star to go thru them, different ones being all together and still I'm not sure I got them all in the box lol I always worry about those things and will until this is over lol

Scottsburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Yeah, I think I was a bit nuts to put it off to one day too....sorry Star, you almost got me on that one, but too much to do here :) Gotta go down to sis's yet this week to help her with some bathroom remodeling, and drop one of the dogs off at her vet for the tooth/rear-end/nail trimming thing. That vet is more of a horse vet, but she does small animals since she's one of a few in that neck of the woods, and her prices are silly-low, so I drive our dogs down there for treatment. And I get to see my sis, DBIL and niece and nephew to boot. (Along with her petting zoo - the llama, alpacas, sheep, etc.)

You know what, though? I discovered that I had more seeds sitting around than I had realized. I thought I got them all in their little boxes when I put my list up, but as I was digging through my office and the basement came across a few more. ACK! They're all in one place now, thankfully. Next I gotta figure out which ones I'm going to start in a couple of weeks for my sis. She lost so much stuff to the drought in '07, and then to Ike, that I'm starting shrubs and trees for her as a Christmas present. I bet I get to plant them for her as a Mother's Day present - LOL!

I was totally surprised this year to see a Coral Nymph salvia had volunteered from last year - in amongst the dahlias. Looked mighty odd, but by the time I noticed it there were already some really nice blooms, so I left it for the bees and such. It's one of those tall ones, so it got up above the dahlias before I noticed it. I love things like that, and daturas and such, but I just don't have the room for those if I'm going to have anything else. I've got a white datura that reseeds itself behind my greenhouse, so I just let it go, and enjoy peeking at it when I'm rummaging through the gh. (It's a small one, about 6x8 feet)

Robin

ella..dont worry we will not be driving in the bad weather.

Gee, I'm gone for a couple of days and you are way beyond me. Ok, to catch up. I got so frustrated last Thursday, I walked away from the box. I was running a fever, and still haven't quite gotten rid of it. Like a good little piggy, I trotted down to the Post Office and mailed everything off on Friday. Sent it priority. I may have forgotten to tag a bag of ginseng for klstuart, I hope not, but I wasn't thinking very clearly. I made individual baggies for individual piggies. I wrote either inside or outside the baggie who the seeds were for and from. I added artwork. I used labels on the seed baggies which range in size from tiny craft baggies to snack baggies, to sandwich baggies to freezer size bags. What ever I had on hand at the time. I was feeling so stressed out that I used the only labels I could find. I hope y'all don't need a magnifying glass to read them. I also made a list of everything enclosed in the baggie on either an index card (until I ran out!) or on a post it sticky note. They aren't pretty, but I was getting stressed so I figured you'd understand.
I am so glad to know where to find all my piggy friends. I haven't been to visit the cottage gardening forum yet.
Meredith, I am so glad that you survived. We watched the reports on the news and it was scary. How do you keep warm? How did you manage the computer withdrawal? My kids go nuts if they can't go online every day. Me I'm happy to read. Meredith, I'd love to have what you mentioned in the post above.
I'm getting interested in that pineapple sage. I like plants that smell good. Must remember to see how yours grow and to ask for it next year. TEE Hee!
Still looking for catnip if anyone still has any.
Raise your own worm poop. It doesn't take much space or energy, and they are wonderful to have. I plan on starting a new one in spring. I'll dig up a bunch of worms, feed 'em chicken poop and newspapers, and any vegetable matter the other critters don't get to first. Nothing nicer than having worms in the garden or your container plants. For those of you who have a plentitude of worms. It's taken me 20 years to get to this point. I'm still amending the dirt in some places. Be patient, you'll get there!
A very Happy Belated Birthday Heavinscent! Hope it was a great day!
Congrats Seandor, it's got to feel great to have a few days of free time before you dive back in to the fray!
I've been having a lot of fun trying to keep up with you fast moving piggies. I'm glad to know where to find you. So many of you have been so helpful and nice, I feel like I have a bunch of flowering friends. : )

SingingWolf, I'm pretty sure you're on my list for catnip. The seeds are from last year, but I see no reason they shouldn't be fine. Hope you're feeling better!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Fever still here off and on. Much better now that I'm warm and dry, and my frost sensitive plants are covered. Thanks Critter for the catnip. I must have missed that post! Ooops!
Right now I'm watching feral mama cat, and her babies making a tent under the blanket I put on the chair I put out for them in the patio room . It's so funny to watch them pounce on the moving blanket. Oh, I have to fight another cat for my heating pad. LOL!
Wrenched my back Saturday saving my son's cat who accidently was locked out the night before. She was so cold and scared. Poor baby. She's fine now.
Hope you don't catch cold!

What a relief, the most important box has arrived already! The little one will come soon, no doubt.....

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Currently I am in an exam room . . . . students are fervently working, hoping to garner some more marks to improve their final grade. . . .

The really great new is that Daughter Number One is pregnant with her first child and our first grandchild! (Though, really, I am not sure I am old enough to be a grandmother!)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Congratulations! S/he will have the youngest, most spirited Grandma on the block! :-)

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Ah . . . I wanted to include a picture with the above posting . . . but couldn't think how to get one. Tried to post a clipart image from MS Word (duh!) Once I got back to my office I realized all I had to do was "google" for an image.

So here it is!

Thanks critter . . . actually, I am more than old enough to be a grandmother; eldest daughter is 28 years old.

DH and I have taken a vow to lose lots of weight before we go to the west coast in July. (Baby is due June 23). Why do we have to start now?????? I LOVE fruitcake and mince tarts and plum pudding (British background). . . . sigh . . . .

Yesterday my youngest daughter (age 21) and I were shopping and one of the victims of the current economic downturn is a local toy store franchise. We went in looking for baby toys . . . then smiled and realized that this was really a job for "Grandpa" - DH LOVES babies . . . he would have a dozen! I once told DH he could have as many babies as he wanted - he just couldn't bring them home. hahahahaha

Two was enough for me!

New Braunfels, TX(Zone 8b)

Congrats Seandor! I am anxious for my girls to start having babies, but am being very patient since my first is the first to get married and that is not until this coming May! I've promised them that I won't pressure them to give me a grandchild, I know how precious that newly married time is and it is not quite the same once there are squalling babies around!

Congrats again to you, though. How exciting!

Tonya

Scottsburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Congrats Seandor! I'm sure you'll have that grandbaby out digging in the dirt and sniffing the flowers as soon as possible :-)

Altamonte Springs, FL

Can I join for my grandmother? all her plants died when her lil pond flooded, thankfully it wasnt high enough to get in her house, I have been trading for seeds for her, but this will help alot more.

Stephanie

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

OMG Micahela, you're going to be a nana. It's so much fun. I was 43 when I was blessed with one and when I'm with her I still feel young. She is now almost 12.

Going to be a proud grandma for moment ladies and show you her pic, she just won the Ms Merry Christmas pageant for the upper elementary. Lady Kali and Lord Lane her escort.

What a lovely Lady Kali! Hmm Middle School comin' up soon! Y'all might be beating the boys off of that one, Robyn! She a cutie.

Stephanie, I'm pretty sure the swap is still open for storm "victims", but Ella (Starlight 1153) will be back on here sometime today and she can tell you for sure. My guess is she will have plenty of seeds to share that you can give to your grandmother. Not surprisingly, this is a VERY generous bunch of folks, as I have found most DGers to be. Just didn't want you to think we were ignoring you!

Tonya

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Hi Stephanie, as Tonya says Ella will get back with you on this swap. I'm sure it will be no problem. I've already sent in my package, but will be glad to go through my boxes again and pull out something for your grandma if need be.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Stephanie, welcome! I know Starlight has been hoping more disaster survivors would come forward as they started assessing the damage and making plans to rebuild/replant. I'm sure she'll be in touch soon!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Afternnon Piggies!!!!!!! Mail call. LOL Singingwolf yoru box arrived today. LOL... I laughing my head off at what ya did to the baggies. hehehehehehe Sorry gang. I not gonna tell ya. Ya just all gotta be surprised. : )

I wish ya all could see the piles as they starting to pile up, but ya gotta ait, cuz don't want ya to see thinsg just yet.

Am I bad to tease ya all, oh ya.. And it so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Stephanie.... sure we got some extras for your grandma. If you want it to be a surprise for her, send me a dmail with her name and addy, otherwise I have your information in my dmails.

While I thinking about it.... Before we started the actual swap, I ha dpromised somebody some Phlox Peppermint Candy and I belive somebody some Salvia coccinea Cherry Blossom and I think there was some sweet shrub seeds or somethign else too.

If I was holdign some seed for ya til the swap wil ya tell me who ya are again and what it was. Doubt I can find it through our cottag ethreads again.

Congrats on the new grandchild Seandor. Wishign best of health fo rmother and child.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I had sweet shrub seeds to send in (as extras; I don't think anybody oinked me for them), but I think I've heard they should be fresh (mine are a year old). Anybody know?

I didn't get promised 'Peppermint Candy' phlox... but if you happen to have an extra little packet, I would not turn it down! I love phlox.

Ooh, I just googled the phlox... it's a hybrid, and compact to boot. I may have to order seeds... http://www.tmseeds.com/product/8154.html

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, dang. I just figured out 'Peppermint Candy' is an annual... and I probably have enough annuals to start for this spring. Now I'll be looking for the P. panticulata (hardy) variety 'Peppermint Twist' -- similar blooms, taller plant. :-)

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Critter.. don't order any, I was gonan plop some in your box, knew ya was into them kind a plants ; ) Guess I spolied my own surprise to ya. LOL

As long as they been refirdigereated they wil do good still. They are not easy to germinate, but well worth it when ya have sweet shrubs in bloom and the butterflies all aroudn them.

Edmond, OK(Zone 7a)

Ya'll are making me feel like a tween......I'm not old......I'm not young - is this what they mean by middle aged? HA! LOL! I'm old enough to be a grandma but mine are still little. Love the thought of being a grandma - in fact my BF from high school is a grandma - I"m still wondering if I want another baby........ok ya, no. Thought about. :-) 8 years of straight diaper duty did me in. My baby turns 5 on Christmas and will be starting school next year. A new phase of life. Ahhhh, but do LOVE to hold and cuddle the babies.

Beautiful family Cheles. : )

New Braunfels, TX(Zone 8b)

What a great pic Chele! I'm partial to little girls as I have 3 of my own, too. My youngest is 13, though. I really enjoy seeing pics of anyone and being able to put a face with a name.

Tonya

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, wow... every one of that trio is just as beautiful as her mom! Is that Caribbean-blue water behind you?

Hee... Thanks Starlight, and you know I'll manage to make room to start those! My Summer Hill order should arrive this week, so I'll be able to include a few goodies in your packet also. BTW, is there a minimum number of petunia seeds of a variety that you need for your petunia project? :-)

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Sweet, sweet picture Cheles. I love that all in white look.

Hint, hint. peppermint candy if there are extras. I know I asked for some from somebody but don't remember when or who. I will wait patiently for some if you find out who asked first.

Edmond, OK(Zone 7a)

Thanks ya'll! Yes, that was our vacation last year to St. Martin........a once in a lifetime. :-) My DH gets told all the time that he has his hands full. Hee hee. He loves it though - all his girls. I keep reminding him that they will be 13, 16 & 17 in just a few years. AAAaahhhhhh - you'll find me in the garden.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Maybe it was from me Robyn. I knwo it been a coupel of months and I can't remember what I dis yesterday some days let alone months ago, sure I have some for ya either way.

Critter. No. Will just work with what I have and divide from there and may have to ask your opinion of colors matching though. I want to try and make the pots look presentable, but then again the kids may decid e they want to do this color or that. So I'll probably, just divide everythign up into individual colors and then let them pick. Otherwise I can already imagine this child saying I don't like pink or the boys saying pink is sissy or something. Ya know how children can be. LOL

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Thank you.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Robyn, if Starlight doesn't have extra, you're welcome to the packet of 'Peppermint Candy' she was putting in my trough... mine is quite full, and I don't think you've oinked much!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Starlight, are the kids starting the seeds, or are they picking from plants you've started for them?

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

critter.. They gonna do it all. Have little seed startign trays for them, bought a huge back of sterile seed starting mix and have plenty of used, washed 6 packs for stepping up and then had a friend who has gh donated me plenty of 6 and 8" pots for them.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

that Peppermint Candy is gorgeous.... I too love phlox ... i like the creeping kind though.. not tall.
I had carpets of it at my old house ... for some reason here, i cant get it to survive. crap soil i guess.... but i'm still moving what's left around, to see if i can get it to grow.

chele -- quite a stunning photo. your DH should be proud.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Terese, I had better luck with creeping phlox when I added polymer moisture crystals to the top inch or two of soil. They're drought tolerant once established, but the extra moisture seems to help in the beginning.

Starlight, that's wonderful... petunias are a bit more of a challenge than the standard bean plant, but far more rewarding!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Teresa. Think I had some creeping phlox. If I find it again will throw it your way.

critter. Ya figure the petunias be prettier for the moms and if this oen goe sok, stil have a few hundred thousand atkinson tomao seeds and wil let them do tomatoe plants for Fathers day and home gardens.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

JIll -- i'll try that. I do have the crystals in the garage.

Found an old photo.... this was about HALF of what i had in "carpets"
i think i had 4 different "colors".

Thumbnail by tcs1366
Edmond, OK(Zone 7a)

I have TONS of creeping phlox. But no seeds - do you collect them in the spring after they're done blooming? I have so much I've thought about pulling a bunch out to make room for other stuff.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Finally!! I am online again! : )My computer would not get online today for some reason, may be due to all the repairs they are doing around town. I know some people still have no cable. So I just have to go back and catch up to see if I missed any requests. I stopped at the post office to make sure this bad boy has enough postage and I asked the postman to make sure and give me a little extra in case I had to add anything. : ) I couldn't mail it because like a dummy I never wrote stars addy down. And since I couldn't get online I couldn't get it.
