Chimes in the snow
Ice Storm Pictures
Yes, I'm bracing for the worst.
Karen
wow a lot of chainsaw talk - i just wear gloves and go - guess i better reconsider.
btw - the hickory is cut up, not sure the 3 ft around base met shelly's time estimates - with my 16" i basically had to cut 270 degrees in circumference and i could only cut two sections per fill up.
i also lost more than the hickory - their are seven oaks/maples down by the wet lands/pond that just fell over root base sticking up and of the three hickories left only one did not have broken branches. some of the branches did not have clean brakes so they are hanging branches that will stay up there for years. hickory does not break easy one thread can hold up a huge limb. it does not look pleasing to the eye to say the least. anyone willing to climb up and cut them off?
snow again today - having my family here of x-mass party averyone is 45 minutes away on a good day - my mother as she gets older is afraid of here own shadow - she's coming up with my sister-in-law - should be an interesting ride - i have suggested blind folds and duct tape - would make for a great youtube video.
LOL! Blind folds and duct tape. Funny!

Hi everyone!
The power officially came on at about 5 PM yesterday for us. It's a wonderful thing! I'm glad to have heard from John & Liza, but still no Christina? Sherrie ~ you have been a riot!!
Today's forecast is for about 12 - 18 MORE inches of snow, so we shall see if the power stays on.
happy that you have power back!
That looks like a very cold bench! I'm so happy you have your power back, Candyce. I would not be dealing with that very well.
Karen
I'm grateful to have it back on, too, Karen.
Sammi sent some of her photos to WMUR (the local TV station) and several of them have been awarded five stars! The TV station put them in their slideshow collection. I'm so proud of her.
Here's a link ...

I don't know how well that link will work, but if it does, her photos are the ones submitted by matriarch2many
Candyce, can YOU go back and fix it so all her pictures are on one page? The link worked but there are what, over 2000 pix and so far I've only seen one of Sammi's.
Hmmmm ....
let me see if I can do that ....

Bill, your saw did fine by my time frame!! I think that I gave 20 seconds for a hickory that was only 10" diameter. Yours tree had a great diameter than that! A hickory is a chore for a saw! I sent, via dmail, a very mild picture to Karen of a minor chainsaw eye injury. It's still quite gross and he was really lucky! I have plenty more to share!! Hope all goes well with the family, and lots of firewood. I had quite a bit cut up from when the powerline folks came through, that I was going to donate. But, instead i've been giving it out in return to the people who have been helping me plow the driveway, get my mom's car out of the ditch, cut up trees that were blocking the path to work, etc. I think I'm going to have gotten rid of all the extra I have by the time this arctic thing finally pushes on through.
Thanks for the link Candyce. those are great pictures! Are you doing a victory dance for the power being back on?? I would!!
We cried, and then laughed, and then stood at the windows and applauded the crews that were still working outside. Then, we brewed coffee and took it outside to them. Did the coffee offerings today, too, as they are still in the area.
lol.... That's great... A victory applaud then. Well deserved!! I'm sure that the crews were very happy to have people who appreciated them getting the power back on instead of folks who were upset that it was out for so long.
I'm so glad you finally have power Candyce - YEA!!!!!! Eleanor
HI: all Hope you are surviving, lots more snow today.
Go to my blog for some pictures of ICE http://jwlwgardens.com
Would like some comments on the blog. Thank You.
John
No kidding about the LOTS more snow!
Hi all,
I'm checking in. Sorry I didn't do so sooner - I didn't realize I was missed. (But it makes me smile to know you were wondering about me.) I do live in one of the hard-hit areas but we were very fortunate this time - we only lost power for 24 hours. So many others in our area were out for a week or more. We will be buying a generator as soon as they become available again, that's for sure!
Glad to hear everyone else is accounted for too! Happy Holidays everyone!
Yay! Thanks for checking in !!! Happy Holidays!
Glad to hear you didn't get hit too bad Christina. Still 2500 w/o power in the Worcester area and another 3-4 thousand in N.H. They say most should be back by tomorrow. With the warm up coming mid week maybe all the debris and pilled up snow and ice can be finally cleared for these poor folks and they can have Christmas in their own homes.
Good to hear, Christina. The generator business in New England must be very good right now!
I'm glad to hear everything is a-ok with you up there. Too bad for your neighbors being without power for so long. I would go crazy without my internet. Maybe I would get other things done, though. I would also go crazy if I couldn't shower regularly.
Karen
I can't imagine being without power for 8 days! We were out for 3 days a couple years ago and it was miserable. You sure do realize how much you take for granted!
So glad you are okay, Christina. It does sound like it would be a good idea to have a generator manufacturing operation. Between both coasts, the demand is HIGH.
So good to hear from you, Christina!
John, I'm glad you had help with the wood. Also glad the house was spared.
DS out in OR. has a foot of snow covered by ice. So glad we didn't plan on flying out this Christmas. We'd rather wait for summer, although we miss the grandkids, but they sent us a SKYPE for Christmas, so now DH has something to figure out on his Christmas break. It will be great to see the kids when we talk to them.
this tree went almost to the garden - you can see what remains of the bird feeder (new one delivered and under the x-mass tree0 and in the background is the pile of hickory that will be burned over the next few years. check out the size of the trunk pieces - had to roll them down there and then stack them - in need of a deep tissue massage
Wow you got a lot done. Lucky that there wasn't any more damage considering the size of that tree. You can see the well worn path to the wood pile. The birds will have a new hang out for the new year. Hope yours is without incident in 2009.
wow your poor backs
