Oh, Sherrie, glad to see you posting. Yes, a little warm water does wonders.
Will continue to think of Candyce and John and Liza and others affected.
Ice Storm Pictures
You guys should seriously consider a generator. You lose power quite often.
My New Year's resolution!
celeste a generator is in our near term future as well - ngam the tall trees have to go here and i will have to call in the tree guys to do it.
shelly thanks for noticing the ducks - when i saw the one on its side it cracked me up - thought it was perfect for the situation we found ourselves in!
hope to have electricity tomorrow - the crews were working all afternoon - cleared the tree and had to put in a new pole - for all i know the juice is flowing now - i hope.
tomorrow i start on the hickory.
Good luck Bill...better days are coming. ^_^
yes they are - btw my wife has here whole family up in the Jaffery, NH area - we have heard they were hit very hard. hope all are safe there.
I heard, lots of people still with out power. I was looking at pictures of that area and it reminded me of us here 10 years ago. It wasn't as bad here this time but it was for the NH region!!
10 years ago i was without power for 4 days - same situation as now - well water so without power it is tough - then i had an above ground pool to get water to clear toilets - and it was a lot colder as i remember - used our camping gear to cook dinner - upscale now with hotel and going out to dinner.
really like to be home with the lights on instead of burning these Marriott points that i was hoping to use on a dslr.
Well water here also, had to go 11 days last time...this time was a breeze for me. I'm very thankful but enough is enough, time to get a generator, I ain't getting any younger!!!! lol
11 days i can't imagine - and why don't you have a generator now?
Exactly what I was asking my self during those 30+ hours. lol
I like finding out what im made of !! lol
This time I found out that im 10 years older but no wiser or i'd already have that generator. Will be wiser in 2009!
sometimes we need reminders
i have a friend whose whole neighborhood went down last time - he had a huge generator everything in the house was on including he xmass lights - his neighbors must have hated him.
Good luck, Bill.
hi victor - i have to tell you that i was really worried about the four jm's i am over wintering. they got clipped a little and they will be ok - especially since i have put them under presidential protection for the rest of the year.
the big coral bark maple is hurting - the bark is all wet where i wrapped it - fingers crossed
I'm sure I would have been freaking over that too. Let's hope that's it for bad storms this year!
freaking out? i was up all night - wife as well scarred that a tree would fall on us - me hard to admit i was thinking about all my new and old trees. i guess that is a sign i crossed the line - lol
In the heat of the moment, I doubt I would be thinking about the new trees! You have more than crossed the line - you're certifiable!!
man that hurts! no kids here and it would have been tough for a tree to hit our bedroom - worked to hard to "sleep on it"
You certainly are lucky. A tree smashed through the bedroom of my cousin's house a few years back. They were in the house, but not in the room.
Celeste, fantastic shots as usual! Bill, I'd be scared if that tree fell in my yard. We're so close to the city that we didn't really notice anything until my daughter's flight home from AZ got canceled, as well as the party she was planning to go to straight from the airport. As of right now it looks like she might be sleeping on a bench in JFK in the new jetBlue terminal.
Hope Candyce and anyone else affected are OK!
i know what could have happened - if one of the big ones in range went it would have bounced off our great room before getting to us - scary and alive - thought this all out - my trees were in real Peabody - yes certifiable!
did i type peabody - that is 50 miles away - i meant jeabody - lol
While Victor may think you're certififiable Bill, he should know since he seems to be at the top of the group! If they ever start a plantaholics group - we all know that we all belong there!
Good luck to everyone. Glad to hear that everyone is doing all right and getting their electricity and water back, never fun. Bill maybe you can cut up your hickory, and other trees, and either use it for firewood (or bbq :-p ) or give it to folks who need it for fire wood. That's what I do with the trees that come down around my place, I donate to either the local senior center or salvation army. When I call the senior center, they'll come and pick it up for me since I don't have a truck. I know that it's hard to think of at the moment, but at least it makes some use of the mess in the long run.
that's nice & pretty smart RC
Thanks, it just seemed like such a waste when I was piling up stuff after the first time I had to deal with a storm. Some friends who stopped by while I was making my pile, asked me if I would maybe cut it into firewood sizes and they'd take it to the senior center for me. Every since then, I've tossed hardly a twig. On a couple of occasions I felt like spreading it around some and that's when I found out that the Salvation Army would take wood. I bet Goodwill would as well.
We have about 6" of snow now, 5" is new overnight. The plows are all busy on the freeways for now, forget the streets. When I went outside a while ago, I was wondering how late the paper would be. The paper person just went by delivering the paper on a quad! Now that's a great idea!
Good grief Allison, you are definitely an early bird. I could almost set my clock by you and Jo Ann.

Jaffrey NH is hit bad bad bad. On the local news it said that the whole town is going to have to be rebuilt - meaning the power company. As of yesterday there was not a road passable.
I still have no freaking power. They started to come up our road yesterday and STOPPED! There is not even a tree limb down.
So I have to go out and change the generators around to get the comp on. Oh well it gives me something to do other than the broom and a dust rag. :-)
I know Sherrie..it's horrible! I've been watching the news reports and reading the paper, reminds me very much of here 10 years ago.
I really don't like those memories and I hate the thought of anyone else having to go through that. Out forest are still recovering 10 years later....it was pure devastation. My heart aches for all still in that situation.
thanks shelly - my guess is i'll have firewood for 4 to 5 years.
Hickory smoke for the barbecue!
Wow, that's a lot Bill! If I keep mine more than about 3 it starts to rot. (probably wouldn't do that if it were out in the sun, but it's not). I agree with Victor, time for daily bbq's!
Well, I feel bad for all of you who still don't have power yet. When I was visiting NH this Oct. with my Dad and friend Karen, Karen kept saying how she wishes she could move up there. Wonder if she's rethinking that now. I would tell her to make sure she gets a generator if she ever does.
Karen
It is such a mess still in parts of Ma and NH. At least the weather has improved yesterday and today so maybe they can get a lot done before the next storm rolls in. I hope they get peoples power back on before we get snow on top of everything else. I agree, a generator is a requirement with all the nutty weather that is happening now. Not just the ice and snow but remember all the tornado alerts and flooding. The weather here in the northeast is getting very weird. If we ever get solar panels and home wind turbines on every house that would help a lot in these situations maybe and might be good for the economy too.
Bill looks like the next couple of winters you can have some nice cozy evenings in front of the fire. Also looks like a bit more sun will be reaching your yard too, more places to plant. So ya take those lemons old mother nature sends and make a tall glass of lemonade.
Good thing we did 4 cords of wood this winter. Heck we get it free, just have to haul it home, wack it up, stack it in the sheds, then move it to the house porch and then in the house... Isnt that simple!
Just like I melted the coffee pot on the stove this morning! Had it on low low flame but the plastic handle was over the flame......... No coffee pot now... LOL
night 5 without power - neighbor across the street has theirs back. maybe tomorrow - back to the marriott - i'll never build up enough points for that dslr now........
Bummer, Bill.
