Daily Pics Volumn 161

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Hi Everyone! I am happy to start a new thread...here is the previous one http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/930573/ .

We have had such cold weather lately and I am such a wimp so most of my pics are shot through the window from the warmth of my kitchen!!

For the past week I have noticed a Dickcissel at the feeders.

That reminds...Anita on the last thread asked what kind of camera I have. It is a Canon 40D and the lens is a zoom 100mm-400mm...perfect for shooting from a kitchen window! LOL!

Here is a Goldfinch...one of many!! I was outside when I took this one (and freezing to boot)!!

You would never know their taken through the window Rose.

Thanks Pelle...the Dickcissel has been a nice surprise!

Here is a male Red-bellied Woodpecker checking out the hole in the tree (that the Downy WP is working on).

Thanks again Pelle...I think a little post-processing is helping! I remember someone on this forum mentioning using curves and contrast when shooting through the window and it helps a lot.

I usually have to go to the brush piles to see a White-throated Sparrow but this one has been showing up in the yard. I love it!!

That Dickcissel is a very good record, considering they're supposed to be in South America at this time of year! Well worth submitting the details to your local bird recorder (they'll want to know at least the first and last dates it is around, and the photos for confirmation). I'd guess it is probably an immature male.

Love that mad bluebird pic,
I wish my thru the window shots came out that good, I am a real wimp.

South Hamilton, MA

cute dickcissel--can't tell if grumpy or just meditating.

Klamath River, CA

This was a lucky pic. I saw a ot of ducks at a distance and decided that they were Buffleheads and almost didn't snap the shutter but I noticed one duck was white and larger so I took the pic. After doing some heavy cropping I decided that it was a Common Goldeneye ( I.D. by Resin ) which is a new bird for my life list.

Thanks for the new thread Rose and wonderful pictures. I have a really hard time to get a good picture of the Junco, can never see his eyes
Adel seen my first Goldeneye duck time this summer. And another just recently was the Hooded Merganser. Congrat on your new Duck.

Heavy chickadee & turted titmouse activity today in cold rain. We just feed the black oil sunflower seed.

burn, I LOVE those Evening Grosbeaks!! Nice pics!

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

Today we had snow. That is unusual here. The birds came to feed all day. I saw Carolina Chicadees, Mourning Doves, Eurasian Collored Doves, Red-winged Blackbirds, House Sparrows, Northern Cardinals, Pine Warblers, American Goldfinch, Eastern Bluebirds, Dark-eyed Juncos and here is one of the Chipping Sparrows. I was lucky to get any shots today with the windows wanting to stay foggy with drops and streaks of water on the outside of the glass. Much to wet to take the camera outside. A lot of todays shots went into the recycling bin.

Nice one Frank!

I am beginning to see a few Goldfinch. This shot had a soft focus because of the foggy glass but I like it.

I thought the fallen leaves and snow made a pretty background for this Cardinal.

Great pics everyone! I love the ones of the Eastern Towhee, Methodical. Much better than the one I posted awhile back!
So jealous of the Dickessel, dellrose!

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks I've been working on my technique more and more and still need lots of work. No amount of reading can get the technique better than going out shooting. I'm happy to be expanding my bird inventory.
