LiliMerci, I know it's not a Bougainvillea.I got it from Zone-9 in Houston. I thank Placenciarita got one too. Maybe she will remember its name.I can not remember names for very long! These are some Bougs.from this summer and are still blooming in greenhouse. Jerry

It was 70F at 7am today. We are supposed to hit 81F today. It was about 75 for the high yesterday. As you can tell, we are between cold fronts here.
I often wonder what would happen here if you just installed a permanent ridge of high pressure over the FL/GA state line that would keep all the cold air above the state.

This means I get a GREENHOUSE DAY today! Hopefully something interesting will be going on and I can post a few pics. I've already finished cleaning up the yard after that last series of frosts. Lots of stuff is still up and going. But then it usually is this time of year, the frosts we had were unusually early.

Red Oak, TX

Texasbigleaves, I do not remember that plant (sorry). At first glance, it looks like a variegated bougainvilla to me too. NO snow here this morning , plants are all snuggley warm in the greenhouses.
This is a noid palm from walmart $1.

Great pictures Dale TheGardener.
It seems as the Hibiscus wait until they get back in the greenhouse to put on a show. I could not get all the blooms in the picture.

This is a Philo. Pink princess. She had to be transplanted, it was looking very sick, with very small leaves. Maybe I showed her off too much last year. It has perked up nicely.

It is unusually warm today. Hi 60's and low 50's. Raining cats and dogs here today and in the forecast tomorrow. Then temp will drop in the low 30's and 20's at night tomorrow and next few nights. Brrrr! I love this warm weather but hope that the cold weather will kill some mosquitoes. Plus, my peonies need cold nights in order for them to bloom.

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Here you go Rita I got a close up picture of the variegation.

Here is the miserable look here today. I won't be worried until the clouds clear up. Is it clearing in your area up there yet? That's when it will get really cold.

RJ, It's cloudy. 25* 15-25 north winds. Bitter cold here! Your pic. looks as TROPICAL as when Placenciarita, the boys and myself were there last summer! Jerry

What's your temperature right now RJ? We were at 37 when I drove to work this morning, but the wind makes it feel much colder. It is rainy here also. Cold front blew in last night and it sounded like a tornado was outside with way the wind was blowing.

Dallas, TX

I thought my V. MAYA was going to bloom, but after putting it in the green house it just stoped and is not doing anything. But i still have hope that it will. Jerry

We are at 35F. It was 39 earlier, then it seems the main push of the cold front settled in and dropped to 34F and it's just hovering. It's doubtful we will make the forecasted high of 43F as we've already busted the timeline on that. Now there are snow flurries in the forecast.

Yeah, the garden really has remained very lush this autumn so far. The Hurricane really took out alot of surrounding trees and branches really allowing more light back there, but still enough canopy.

I didn't take the varigated banana in, or the red ones...Might cover them when the precipitation ends...

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

randy, i'll take care of your var. nana ....he he he

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL, you'll have to crawl accross Jerrys back to do that...lol right Jerry!?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I live closer than Jerry. haha ha haha sung to a well known tune

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It's snowing big fat flakes of snow here!!

Gainesville, FL

Rita,
your noid palm looks like an Areca Palm, aka Dypsis lutescens.

I have Plumeria Princess Victoria cuttings to trade to folks who don;t live in forbidden states (TX, CA, AZ, HI, LA)

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I don't live in the "forbidden" state, but I doubt I'll have anything you want. ^_^

Dallas, TX

louC, I'll be a walking to get that frozen nana of RJs! Jerry

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Well, from experience here in the northeast, snow is better than freezing temps. Snow is like a coat of insulation, lol, really. Freezing weather and no snow it is worse. Praying for the best to you guys over there with your tropicals outside, brrrrrrrrrrrrr. I had 60 degrees today, tomorrow will be 20's though, oh well!

Keep us posted, worried about your tropical children anyway!

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Look on the bright side. Perfect weather for hot chocolate and Xmas shopping.

Merry Christmas, ya'll!

Gainesville, FL

I can't believe its actually snowing in Houston

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Clemen is right. I left the snow on everything because it does act like an insulation.
I did knock some off of the tree fern as it was really wet and weighing it down. The real test today will be from 34F to 58F that's when the tissue dammage will happen if it warms up too fast which usually is the case, and then back to 34F again tonight..if we get past it...home free..
There are a couple displeased plants this morning but for the most part are looking good.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

As pretty as the snow is, I'll just enjoy looking at it through your pictures. DON'T SEND IT MY WAY, OKAY? It does make you feel more like Christmas is in the air. I love the picture of the night sky with the snow coming down.

Red Oak, TX

Rj,
I love the first shot with the big fern catching the snow flakes falling. I am getting a anxiety attack just looking at your pictures.
I'm looking forward to see it like this again.

The guy on Good Morning America said that it is supposed to snow as far south as New Orleans today.
Its pouring here at the moment in advance of this storm system. We have a potential for severe weather today...I hope we don;t lose any trees!

Hope your plants recover without damage. After the rain blows through it will be 34 tomorrow night, then warm up again. Its 72F at the moment, that was our low last night.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Rita are having snow too????
