Dallas, TX

BOY O BOY my gas meter is sucking $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ OUCH!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I was looking at the hour by hour forecast for tomorrow (as we gardeners do) and it was chilly...and the "feels like" is even chillier.

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

My peach trees started to bloom today after two days of warm weather. They usually wait until Jan, but, not this year. In years past I have had as many as 4 flushes of bloom and each set of peaches ripens at a different time, about a week apart. I wonder how many I will get this year?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

My Pear tree has been blooming two times a year....

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

rjudd, Is it the fruiting kind?

I remember seeing some small orchards of pears back when I lived in Smithville. Had a place on the Lower Colorado River, just upsteam from town a couple miles.

I grew the best melons and peppers at that place.

It's so windy over here that my car was being pushed on the freeway, I'm not kidding!

Rita, I love variegated plants too! Your var. rubber tree is doing much better than mine. I think I need to give it more sun?

Dallas, TX

Placencirita, Got your snow shovels and broom to knock the snow off of your greenhouse? Weather man says you might get some tonite! Who knows this could happen! Jerry

It sure is...in fact, the squirrells actually left some pears from the last bloom this fall..that's unusual.

Dallas, TX

clemen, It's 35* with 30-40 north winds. and that makes the chill factor in the mid 20's. it's sleeting very lightly. Weather man says sunny and 70* on sunday! We will see. Jerry

Placenciarita, lou C, A buddy of mine that lives on Illinois ave. and Hambton rd.called and said it was SNOWING and sticking to his car ! But not on the ground! Jerry

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Posted on another thread...we just came home from our daughter's house only 2 miles from us. It was snowing and sleeting. In no time it stuck on the yard, the street and covered our car. We hurried to get home and so far---nothing. Weird. Rita is about 5 miles from my house and I guess we are both in for it by morning.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

LOU, not fun is it??? Are your plants indoor??? or Greenhouse, brrrrrrrrrrrr, giving me the chills in NYC!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Part are in a 6X8 Rion greenhouse. New this year so we'll see how successful I am. The really big plants are in the tool barn/shed. Electric heaters going in both. At what it will cost for electricity I could probably just dump everything and start over. I have huge EE and bananas that are root hardy. They die down every winter and come back in the spring. I have lots of brugs this year but they grew too large to pot up or wrap so I took cuttings from all of them and they are in the greenhouse. Problem with our weather is that it only stays cold a day or two at a time and nothing ever goes completely dormant. Makes it lot more susceptible to the cold because it is so back and forth. Predicting 70 here by Sunday.

You guys been busy on this thread and I can not believe you are getting snow in Texas! texasbigleaves, your variegated vine ( http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5875475 ) looks like a Bouganvillea?

We had wonderful weather today. Overcast like it's going to snow, but it was in the 60's. I had to take my jacket off while I was out today.

Dale, very nice garden. Is it yours? I have a peach blossom but it's very small. I hope to have lots of blooms this year. I saw little buds on them the other day. All the leaves have fallen off already. They usually bloom late Feb or early March - hot pink blooms. My fruits are very small. I do not know cultivar or how big it will get. I think I've posted photos before - can't remember. Don't know where my mind is... This is a picture of my mother's tree, but I have one too, smaller though.

I have taken cuttings of all of them and they are in the greenhouse. They are just on their own. This will truly be a test to see if they are root hardy. Have not had them until this summer so don't really have any experience to draw on.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

LouC, your brugs should be OK in the ground. My next door neighbor has one and he cut it completely down to the ground after hard frost. It comes back taller each year. Even his banana plant. He gave me one of his banana baby offspring this year.

All my small brug cuttings are in styrafoam cups and rooting. I've managed to kill 2 already, but they were skinny green ones. I think I killed Isabella and Sun Goddess.

First flowers from a cutting of my Princess Vivtoria. With true variegated flowers . Did'nt think it would happen. It started blooming in grnhouse. Jerry

Three of the plants I raised from seed that I purchased from OnaLee's Seeds and I have kept them in pots until this summer. Everything grew so big and have very large trunks that I am hoping for the best.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Beautiful. My plumerias are out of the pot and laying on a shelf keeping warm.

Dallas, TX

That is what i did before they got TOOOOOOOOOOOO BIG.
