Happy Belated Thanksgiving!!!!!! We forgot to take the turkey out of the freezer when we left so we're having our Thanksgiving tomorrow LOL!
We had a blast in Shreveport, learned some of the history and found this really cool night club called Phoenix Underground, it used to be a bank many years ago and the vault was in the basement. So you walk in the front door, they check your ID, then you get on an elevator that takes you to the basement which is huge. These two bartenders were blowing fireballs at each other. It was really wild. We came home Thanksgiving Day, we were gone 25 hours!
Anyway, I got to go to WalMart before Dave goes back to sleep for the day, so I've gots to scoot. I'll be on later working on my Santa!
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #71 visit with friends...
Sounds as though you enjoyed yourselves...quite the establishment..I also went to an unusual one in Nashville..think it was called the Stokade..all new and upcoming talent played there..where they kept the cattle ions ago was made into a bar and dancefloor and large stage..upstairs where all the offices were, you had private dining rooms..just sooo cool..always wanted to go back there..
You my dear Crissy sounds much like me..that is something I would do..lol..forget about the Thanksgiving Turkey..tomorrow you'll enjoy though...
Been working this morning on Santa...hey, got his pants done..now onto his coat..
Hello everyone,
Jeannine (Gardengirl1204) has just invited me to join you all on this thread and I was wondering if that is okay with the rest of you. I would never just crash a thread if I was not invited. I have been sitting here reading for the past couple of hours and I have read the whole thread. You all sound like you have so much fun on this thread and I would really like to join you on here if that is okay. However, if anyone has any objections I will understand.
Thanks,
Jesse
Oh yay we absolutely LOVE crashers!! Come on in, sit down and join us, I think Betty still has coffee on and I have a turkey in the oven (always late but turkey is always worth the wait)
Jesse, I don't think you'll hear any objections from THIS bunch! Welcome!
Audrey
Thanks everyone. This really means a lot to me. It is nice to have you all to talk to. I am extra lonely today since it is my wedding anniversary and I can't be with my husband and I really do miss him. So it is nice to be here with you guys so that I am not so alone. So how do you all know so much about making the Santas and all the other neat things that I have seen you talking about? I find all of it very interesting and I bet that you have some really cool decorations at your homes.
I was thinking a lot about my dog that I had to leave when I left to go to AU. And I really started to miss him. I had him with me for 12 years and I sure do wish I could see him again. I tried to contact the guy that I left him with but he will not return my emails or phone calls. So there is no hope that I will ever see him again. He was certified as a service dog and could go anywhere with me. And I just read an article where they are now allowing people that are Bipolar to qualify for a service dog. Mine was allowed to be with me for this reason but now it is just more widely accepted which I think is great. Maybe one day I will be able to get another Border Collie.
Thanks again for letting me join you on this thread.
Jesse
Welcome Jesse...I'll share my border collie with you..her name is Sailor..she was a rescue dog..she's getting up there in years..limping around today, walking in the snow does that to her but she won't stay in...will have to take a photo shortly to show you her...
Hard days but you are with good friends...no better friends than these gals...
Can't stay to gab right now as I'm in a on-line Christmas exchange...will show you what I end up with..so far I've lost the cookie jar...now I've a birdhouse..but there are thiefs out there lol..am sure I'll not end up with it..
Not only do I have santa's pants done but the hat as well..needed Lenny (BIL who I am making it for) to drop in to make sure I make the jacket large enough but no go so won't be able to finish it today..had hoped..omg my craft room once again is a disaster..how does that happen..?
They are taking 30 minute break so I can come and gab...
Jesse, last year with some of the girls on this thread I decided to do an on-line DG workshop...sent them all the materials and we picked a day and did the sleights..it was a great success...so this year I did it again and chose a Victorian Santa..I sent all who put their names down a kit which included the armature (body) face that I painted, wave wool for hair etc. then we chose a date and all participated asking questions when needed..the results were as the link I posted above...it was truly a wonderful project..I'm sure all enjoyed and many made more than one..so guess if the good Lord is willing, I'll pick something for next year and we'll have it again..each year we pick up a few extra DG friends so am sure again the numbers will increase..you'll have to join us!
ohhh need my craft room nice and tidy for Christmas luncheon here with friends on Monday..disaster right now...oh well, I'll worry about it tomorrow night, still time to clean..
Left side of my room
Right side of room....
Waiting for darkness so I can take photo's of the lights I put out this morning...photo's never do it justice but I enjoy the beauty..
Actually as I was working this morning 2 of the next door neighbors came out to tell me how much they'd enjoy looking over at the light features off and on with music..wish they'd decorate their homes so I'd have the same..lol..
Audrey, you aren't home yet right...tomorrow you travel back..isn't it nice that so many homes now have computer access and no-one is ever that far away from each other...
Well, must be time to resume 'stealing' of gifts..wonder if I still have the birdhouse...
JESSE glad your here! been thinking of you hope your settling in how are you doing?
betty, that plaster recipe is for the santa heads? and do you spray any kind of lubricant in them? or does the plaster shrink and slide right out? oh the quitting month is feb or maby later lol got to take down all thanksgiving decor and get ready to put up xmas..
inlaws comming down tomorrow so have to clean galore!
hello to all of you hope your enjoying your day
Liz, yes the plaster recipe was for the molds...no lubricant....just let it set and gently tap and they will come out no problem..
Oh boy, better be spic and span before the in-laws arrive...that's unusual isn't it for them to visit on a holiday..normally you and DH are the ones travelling...
How pleased you must be at having the roof done..no worries this winter...I'm NOT going to say anything today about the smoking BUT will if you don't kick the habit come spring...lol...so miss you..glad you dropped in..
What kind of weather are you all having? Wow, so glad it's a stay at home jammie/slipper week coming up as they are calling for a lot of snow each and every day..snow blower still in my car..waiting for Greg to drop in and put it together for me...will test it out, if it works o.k. if not I'll return it as the Manager advised...
Liz did you put a lot out for Thanksgiving?
Yeah Jesse! Welcome to the thread! I'm so glad you joined us. You'll have lots of fun with all of us and always a shoulder to lean on.
Thanksgiving with my family is over (yeah!) and we are back home and setting up the Christmas decorations outside. I'm sure we will be on the Tacky Light tour this year. My neighbor goes all out and has put one of those blow-up helicopter on his roof. I told DH we need to keep up with the "Jones"!! I did buy another animated doe for the front flowerbed. I'd rather have stuff like that anyway. Target has a big animated moose that I really want but haven't been able to talk DH into it yet!!
Well, off to veg for a bit. I'll check back soon.
Jeannine, the restaurant up the street has the moose..he's gorgeous..didn't take you all long to change from Thanksgiving to christmas decorations..lol..I'm so enjoying all the color it brings to the house...
Another half hour or so and it should be dark enough to take photo of outside lights ... be back with it..let's hope it looks nice for you all to see..
I've gabbed enough for the day, did so enjoy playing 'steal swap' with the girls..time to clean a bit of my mess and call it a night...of course I'll be up bright and early..enjoy your evening..who knows, might be back if I can't sleep..wow it's only 6pm..hadn't realized it..yuk..better stay awake..gets so dark out early doesn't it?
I know-this is killing me-by 7pm I want to go to bed!!LOL
Me too, but on a Saturday night I just don't think so, so I have a good buzz now, drinking a very strong White Russian (I guess I want to get drunk cause I'm home, not going anywhere, and Dave has to go to work, and we're having turkey, dressing, stuffing, potatoes, and chocolate cream pie at 6:00 (50 minutes from now) and I can't wait! So I'm sewing my Santa sleeves and trying to not poke myself LOL I should not be doing this with a buzz :)
Stacey, the same, was retiring for the night but lordy better not at this time of night or I'd be up at 1:00 much like last night...you and I are up early morning so by 6pm it seems we've put in a full day and evening..
The weather channel is advising bad storm coming through the next 24 - 48 hrs...hey I'm ok. I'm at home all week...but, know how terrible it is for those travelling the roads...
Now Crissy, I just have to see this santa outfit you are doing while under the influence...shaking my head...should be intesting...you enjoy your meal, now don't pull a Betty and burn it...
Goodness, yesterday I was making chicken noodle soup (can of course) and burnt it..finally got the pot cleaned...got a lot of those burnt bottom pots..lol
SO LAUGHING...I should have a 'pot' party...everybody bring a pot..
Thanks for the welcomes. You have no idea how happy I am to be here. All of you are so great and I'm so glad to be a part of your group.
What a cutie your Sailor is Betty. How old is she now? I had my Zac for about 12 or 13 years. He was the best dog in the whole world.
Jesse
Betty-what do you put on glitter to stop the "dandruff"??
Jesse, you are more than welcome..just don't mind my chatter/chatter..I'm a gabber lol..but then you know that...
Sailor is about 9 I would say, not old but her hip is going that I'm sure of..think tomorrow or Monday I'll go purchase a baby gate so that she can't come downstairs..it's terrible but it's the best thing for her, either than or put the gate at the bottom of the stairs so she can't go up..
A few minutes ago she was struggling to follow me upstairs..can see the pain...I'm hoping it's just this cold weather and soon she'll be better but I kind of doubt it...I'll not see her suffer though..
When I'm at home and come downstairs, she follows, when I go up, she follows...multiply that by 40 or 50 times a day and she's limping..just put a blockade so that she's confined to upstairs for the night..let's see how she does tonight...
Border Collies are extremely intelligent..always get a kick out of her...I have a group of ladies/man who paint here on Mondays, Wednesdays and Wednesday evenings..well Sailor has come to know that when a couple of them go outside with their cigarettes it means they play with her, so she'll sit ever so patiently waiting for them to go outside, if they are taking longer than she thinks they should she goes into their bag and gets the cigarette box..no kidding...smart one..
Stacey, what do you mean glitter ? dandruff?
OMG Betty you are hilarious! Dave's doing the meal, I'm just improvising while he naps LOL! Now the sewing I've given up on, everything is moving so I don't dare, but the hem looks pretty straight! Then again I think anything will look straight at this point!
chuckling, now will it be straight come morning?
Oh yea. I got my tummy full of turkey, dressing, stuffing (yes both) mashed potatoes and gravy over all of it. I still have my buzz but I don't expect it to stick around, and I have the hiccups so I'm not going to be doing any sewing with those! LOL
I don’t know about today, but some of my favorite presents (and some of the few I remember from when I was a “kid” were made by mom. There was a farm scene quilt with little farm animals, not sure what happened to that and “big sister” a fully stuffed doll that was bigger than me at the time; I was 5 (6 in Jan.) when I got those. I know we still have her, I’m just not sure where. I don’t think even my children will get her, or my bear, or my cabbage patch; maybe my Cabbage Patch if I have another daughter. Sage wasn’t really into dolls, but if I have a girl who is I might consider it. Sage got my Barbies, all my cats, and some other stuffed animals and the like; though I’ll take them back when she grows out of them, and I threaten pain if the were drawn on or their hair cut. She drew on my sand frog and I hadn’t even given it to her!
I remember the next year I got Tropical fun Barbie (the one with really long hair), I think I got the Barbie like kids that year as well, but I could be wrong, a suitcase Barbie house and some Barbie clothes. I got a real looking baby doll and an angle water globe (which I broke before we got into the house in CA, though we calked the area where the globe connected to the base and I still have it) from my great grandmother two years, but I’m not sure which years. I got a doll bed that mom or grandma made I still have that too. I have some other things that I’m sure I got for Christmas/Birthday, but those are all the ones I actually remember getting for Christmas.
So 1/3 of the things I remember getting as a kid were hand made.
Plantcrazii, that’s cool, too bad I found out I’m allergic to dogs. Though mom should look into that, I believe you can have service dogs in a house that would not normally allow pets.
Crissy, so what is the difference between stuffing and dressing?
I learned that stuffing is what goes inside the turkey, dressing is what gets baked in the pan and doesn't go in the turkey (I know people who won't eat stuffing because it was inside the turkey and they might get that sickness that you can get eating raw chicken or chicken eggs.) but they will eat the dressing because it doesn't touch the turkey.
Thought you might enjoy seeing my little guy growing up....I had him for a couple of days, and he did not want to leave. He decided he could just stay here for the "rest of forever". I could go along with that.
I hope you all had great weekends...
Liz, hello, my friend.
Your house looks great, Betty...always does, and that snow is incredible. It is in the 60's here, and that is a good thing since I got home tonight and the pilot light is out and I have to wait till tomorrow to get someone to light it. I can't get the front off and get back to the light or I would do it myself. Gotta figure a way so that I can.
Great turkey, Gita!
Hi Seed....
You all have a good week coming up.
hello all
goodness u have all been busy..
so tired all the time atm so bare with me.... i know i dont post enough.
my sister has just been diagnosed with stage two breast cancer.... dont know much yet... i rang her but she wasnt that interested in talking to me .. oh well..
wont stay.. will try and catch up more
xx
Laura, I'm sorry to hear about your sister..how very sad..perhaps she didn't want to talk because it's overwhelming for her to find this out....keep calling and just tell her you love her .. that's all she needs at this point maybe...sending prayers for you..you sure have had a tough year..perhaps 2009 will bring happiness back into your life...praying for that...
Shar, OMG look how he had grown, a real little man..don't see the baby in him anymore...sad isn't it when they grow so quickly..can imagine that he'd not want to leave..he so loves his grandma...Will he get to spend time time at Christmas with you? Do hope so... hope nothing major with your furnace...60's wow what I wouldn't give..although the snow is lovely and I do like it enjoy it but only when I don't have to drive in it..
Olympia Laura, lol, you'll have to go in search of those presents and keep them to enjoy yourself..you brought some memories back, had to go look for it this morning, have it safely put away..this was not a gift by grandma who raised me and it's probably about 35 years old or so..had a kiln and molds when ceramics/porcelain was the in thing and grandma came to stay with me for awhile..I was doing porcelain doll, crying bylo, remember her because someone took her once she was finished and in her christening gown, oh well, so I poured face/hands and face and grandma made this doll..body is made of old wool undies (yuk-lol/freshly washed though...)she took her old apron and I soooo can remember her wearing it in the kitchen everyday...then some embroidery floss and glued it to her head..she even made little booties...
it saddens me to know she'll be thrown in the garbage when I can no longer live here or pass on.. thought I'd share her...
Shar, went back to look at the photo, my goodness he looks like you!
Wonder why I'm up before 5am on a Sunday morning...the telephone rang, well at that time of morning it could only be bad news, so heart just a pounding, wrong number, so now my adrenaline is up so here I am, gabbing with you all, coffee in hand, peeking into craft room trying to decide what to do next..
I'm at a standstill until I find a man the size of Lenny (Suzanne' s hubby) who I am making the suit for..got the hat/pants/boot trim done, basic tacking of the coat but must wait...
Guess I'll cut out the Mrs. Claus then I'll know I've enough material and can continue cleaning all the bits/pieces that are left...
Missy wanted to play this morning..as I was going downstairs she kept trying to tag me..lol
Betty, I am up early this morning. Woke up to Powder up on my dresser playing with my necklaces that I have hanging. It is snowing here and 34 outside and the moter on the furnace keeps running but the burner won't light. Gues I will have to try to light it like you Sharon. Hope that is all that is wrong. Talk later and Laura I will pray for you and yours. LOVE & HUGS BEV
Hi Sharon..nice to see you and your "young man" again..such a handsome fella.
Hope you get that pilot light turned on quick...
Welcome to Jesse....
Betty..what a treasure you have there..your doll... handmade..so special. I am sure if you tell one of your grandsons how special it is they will save it for their own daughter...just pin a note under her skirt explaining how it was made and when, and by whom.
The sky was such a vivid pink at sunset last night..I had to go out a take a photo
Have a good day all
Bev was the jewlry playing soundling like music to your ears? Hope it is just the pilotlight. Last year our motor went out and had to get someone to come and fix it.
Betty I woke up and couldn't sleep anymore.I could sleep more but the brain won't stop! So have been reading here.
Wonder so sorry about your sister. Just keep calling her to let her know you care. At least you are trying.
Have been busy working and having company. Will have some quiet time soon.
Need to let Ty out.
Liz we got another mouse!
