CLOSED: Fall Frenzy Piggy Swap #6

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Ok SingingWolf I would love a little of the ornamental corns and the popcorn, and the gourds. I just want a few of each though because I would only be using them for decoration and fun and don't need a bunch of each.

Wind, May I please have just a few of each of the asters...............I have REALLY GOT TO QUIT looking at this thread...............!!! I am going to have WAY more seed than I have a CLUE what to do with...................

Edmond, OK(Zone 7a)

Genna - I'll be laughing with you because I was thinking the same thing. Was wondering how many piggies start planting in friends and families yards when they run out of room......

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

cheles-I am not much into that rivalry-we are into MSU & UofM rivalry:) Have fun in the freezing cold-get some of those hand warmers and tape one to each butt cheek and under your arms;)

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

You sold me too SW! I have no idea where I'm going to grow it, but I'd really like to try any of your ornamental corns ("Hey Dad, have you got room in your veggie garden for one more row of corn?") I'm not at all experienced with corn so I'm going to ask a pretty basic question. How does pollination work with corn? I've heard that you have to plant X amount of corn plants in order to get good pollination. Can I mix up the varieties? In other words, if dad has 6 rows of sweet corn planted can I just plant a few stalks of each ornamental variety beside his without messing anything up?

Lynn - I will tag some coneflowers for you.

Everyone - I am finishing up the last of my cleaning and will go through my bag one more time. I have GOT to get this mess cleaned up around here so later tonight I will be posting the last of my offerings. I don't think there is going to be that much new stuff, but I'll throw them out here first before tossing them into the "general bag."

*Edited because I never remember to proof-read.

wind -- if you have enough of the "smooth" asters.... I'll take some. I already have the N.E. ones.

Edmond, OK(Zone 7a)

Fairy...... I'm not a rival either - sometimes a rebel. Hee hee. I do have toe warmers! And finger warmers.....and a down coat that goes past my knees. If I can make it to half time I'll be Shocked. I'm a fair weather piggie! Squeal!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

ROFL!!! A fair weather piggy!!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Fairy friend! You have to ask me something hard. : |
I plant in the traditional Indian way. On mounds with corn, squash, sunflowers and beans all growing together about 5 feet apart. I know that they can be grown closer than that. I just checked the Sunset book and they didn't have specifics. I know that conditions in MI are a lot different than here. Perhaps a local gardener could help you better.
I would plan on planting in groups about 2-3 weeks apart for continuous harvest which will be anywhere from two to three months from time you plant. Perhaps spacing about 3 inches apart then thinning til they are at least a foot apart. That will leave some space for replanting in 2-3 weeks.
Somebody Help Us Out, here! My ignorance is showing! LOL!

I think I have everyone's aster requests so far :)))
Lala, I better start cleaning up like you...and labeling my pkts...we have seeds all over the place and I'm still picking!

Singing Wolf, both
Fairy, both
Gen2026, a little of both
Tcs, smooth only

Chele...do you have a preference?

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Lala_Jane:
Do not plant near eating corn. They might cross pollinate. Your eating corn won't be as tender and sweet. You may not get all the pretty colors.
Please Dmail me with your requests, even if you have posted on the thread. It is too hard for me to keep up if you don't.
Oinks a bunch!

so they need like a couple feet of space then....hmm.....

Edmond, OK(Zone 7a)

Wind - both please. Thank you!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Wind, if you still have enough, I'd like some of both asters.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

Wind, if there are any left can I have a few of both asters?
Singing Wolf, Can I please have gourds (any), Indian corn, and the cute pink popcorn? My little grandkids will have a ball planting and watching them grow. If you can send the whole cob, that would be great. I will send you $ for the extra postage.
Thank you. I will D-mail, actually I haven't been doing that, should I go back through the lists and d mail everyone?
Thanks oink oink

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6b)

Tuinkabouter I'm sorry I only had one. I will go back and clean up my pen and clarify my mistake.

GA, GA(Zone 7b)

Mamawk, were you talking about the Monarda citriodora?
If so, Tuink, I can send you a small pinch from a commercial pack that I bought this spring if you like. JLMK by Dmail.

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

OK I have the aster requests for Chele, Gemini and Lynn :) I'm out of the smooth aster now.

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

Hey gang I have the last of my seeds listed. Some of them are new and some are ones I had previously listed but thought were all gone.

*Note that the "missing" echie (Green Envy) has been found. Now if I could just find the baggie with the Magenta Petunia Mix I'd be all set. LOL!

As always, please send your requests via D-mail. Happy squealing!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6b)

Danit, Yes Monarda citriodora is what I had only one of and already promised to cheles.

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Thought I was done oinking - no room for more seeds anywhere. But keep hearing these little squeals in my little piggy head, keep snorting at the trough and thinking maybe somethings been left out of the recipe. Keep having strange dreams of earth-moving equipment and my mudbath turning to flowers. Sooooo.....................

tcs1366, do you have any more calendula "citrus cocktail" to fructify my trough?

Danita, do you still have any basil "blue spice" to spice it up?

This will be one happy hoggy if you say yes. RIM (roll in mud). oink.

GA, GA(Zone 7b)

Perenniallyme, I'll put your name on one! :)

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Many thankful oinks Danita! And may your mudbath be as luscious as mine!

GA, GA(Zone 7b)

Edmond, OK(Zone 7a)

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6b)

OINK,OINk,OInk,Oink,oink......lol
I have never grown any hollyhocks and only seen them in catalogs. So I have a question. Are they very hard to grow esp in zone 6b? If there not I,m going to see if some of you have any seeds left!

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

chele which game you going to?? I am thankful tonight that we lost last week in the playoffs - it is COLD here tonight!!! ^_^

Genna

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

MamawK, I'm in 6a and hollyhocks are easy to grow here, but they tend to have problems with rust around here, so I've stopped trying to grow them.

GA, GA(Zone 7b)

I've read that the Fig Leaved Hollyhocks, Alcea ficifolia, are more rust resistant.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

perenniallyme -- gotcha on the Citrus Cocktail

Mamawk -- I have some HH too. I just dont have them on my list.

Single Pink, Double Whites ... and some other colors...
I'll go check my basket and get back to you in teh Dmail

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Just went hunting to try to figure out what kind I used to have. Think they were the rosea and not fig-leaf. Can't tell you if they're more rust-resistant.

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks tcs. Gonna have a nice'n'juicy trough thanks to you!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6b)

Sandy, I've been thinking on purchasing some of those Cherry Brandy rudbeckia too- I'd love a Rudbeckia that would look good in my pink garden! I think I recall them being offered in a recent co op (that is closed). Ooohh, wouldn't it be cool if they come up with a white one!
