Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Bunnies and babies. How cute! Glad to hear your baby is doing well, Dyane.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice shots, Dyane! Glad to hear the baby is well.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks everyone a three inch painting doesn't take long,in fact many watercolors dont take long compared to oils that have to dry in stages.
Nice pictures Dyan
The squirril buster feeder solves the problem I had with my "Yankee Flipper"
The bottom ring would whirrl and flip off any large object stepped on it.
Trouble is the battery charge only lasted three months, so I was out there in the snow recharging it.

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

I love the colors on this Hydrangea 'Blushing Bride'.

Love that last picture.
You have a serious camera there.

(Zone 4a)

Wowzers! Even the winding down season has so many gorgeous flowers still blooming and wonderful colours on the trees! For me it has long been over and now our ground is covered in snow! It is so nice to see these photo's still coming in. I am glad that my season is now over so now I can focus on everything Christmas!!!! Yay!!!! Almost ready too!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love that picture of the berries!!

Thomaston, CT

The photos cheered me immensely! Even the ground is totally frozen here---can't remember that happening so early in years! Nice painting, Jo Ann---we did dew drops one lesson, but mine came out sort of square! Loved the delicate fern, Dyane, & glad the baby is doing well!

Anybody have any red branched trees or shrubs in their yard?
And how about shrubs/trees with berries?
I've been trying to find some good ideas for some winter interest.

I really like the coral bark maple.

I have red twig dogwood - Arctic Fire, which is a dwarf. I think this will be the second winter. I have it where I can see it out the living room window.

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Robin. Happy to add some cheer!

ge1836, I use a Canon 10D SLR which is a great camera. I'm an amateur but my husband was once a professional photographer so I use all of his old equipment. I really should take the time to learn how to use it all properly but for now it works well for what I need it to do. I mainly use it for the garden shots and for baby pictures.

I was thinking a row of something with red branches would look good right in front of the row of poplars.

I love the sycamore, Dyane. They are such gorgeous trees.

Jen, what a huge lawn you have. It looks great! Yes, I think something red would look good in front of the poplars.

I have a number of red-twig dogwoods. I think they're 'Elegantissima'. They look great in the winter - especially against the snow. Color is best on young branches so you have to prune the oldest ones. You can remove 1/3 of the total in early spring.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I love tuber roses too dayne....

sorry if you have seen this post in the bird watching forum... but it's worth posting twice

I was watching a show on discovery channel called time warp... they showed how a humming bird moves in slow motion

the episode we watched they took an x ray of the bird moving and eating... there is a pouch below the throat that holds nectar ... like a chamber... and the nectar sloshes around to absorb the movement of the wings... and it's head stays still

bad news is that clip is not posted yet... but here is a cool slow motion video

speaking of tuber roses.... I forgot to lift mine.. anyone know if they are still going to be good... or are they trash?

Allison--

Info about Tuber Rose Care Copied from here:

#9 [of 9]. If you live in zone 8 or colder, you should dig your bulbs up after the first frost. Let them air dry for a few days and then store them in paper bags with peat moss until time to replant them next spring.

WNYwillieB, thanks for the link on Tuber Roses. Maybe I'll try them one more year and see if they can beat the frost next year.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Great pics Dyane. I agree about the Sycamore. I don't have any by me - just huge oaks! My friend has them by her and she complains that they are a real messy tree. They sure do clean up nice for photos though!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The Sycamore is messy, spring blossoms turn to fluff that floats everywhere and end up on screen windows.

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

That Sycamore is on the back edge of my property so luckily most of the seed balls fall on town property and I don't have to clean up after it! I just get to enjoy the beautiful bark.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool link, Allison. I heard about Time Warp but haven't caught it yet. I'll have to record it. Love stuff like that.

Lovely picture, Audrey. Looks like home----oops it is!

Actually we have a lot more snow than B'ville.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Great photo ... of things to come for my area of the northeast.
Brrrrr is right!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

No snow for you yet, Candyce? This is the earliest we've had it stick in years.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

HaHa! Polly!

Dad says its been snowing off and on since Wednesday, his neighbor has cleaned the driveway about 6 times, twice yesterday - when he walked over the 3rd time Dad told him not to bother - and they had coffee instead!

I'm still tying to figure out the "Tug Hill" phrase - never heard that when I was living there, started hearing it a couple years ago.....is there a "Tug Hill" exit on Rte 81 north of Syracuse?

Stay warm!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Its a ski area, maybe got the name after you left.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Here's some info about the Tug Hill. It's actually a region, a plateau.

No specific exit off 81.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I didn't realize that.
I just remembered hearing of a ski area there.

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

Here's my sign of winter. Just finished stacking a cord of wood.

Does anyone know what these are called? I see them all over. These are in my neighbors yard. Do people dry them for arrangements?
