And this is my favorite picture, of the playhouse. If you look close you'll see tire tracks in and out of it in the snow :)
Oh, and in the group I am the one hiding behind my fabric :) My shop is called Haut Totes, I make these super strong tote bags. http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6220636 is my shop.
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #69 visit with friends...
Hello, everyone just left...going to start with saying I got very angry this morning..do I really mean angry or just annoyed enough to speak my mind..yes, I think that is a better description..
The girls were here, 2 sister-in-laws, Marguerite and Suzanne (Suzanne who is doing 14 santas') and my niece Danielle (who just had the baby girl)..in walks mom at about 10am..Jim, well he doesn't want to bring the dog in because of my cats so he sits in the card for what 2 hrs. vehicle NOT running, cold outside because of the new idling regulations...shaking my head!
Everyone asks mom how she's doing, standing up and almost with hands on her hip (you know how Judy and Liz) lol..she says to me...
"I went to see my doctor Wednesday and he was angry at the thought that I was having a stroke and YOU (meaning me) didn't call 911..that the doctor said to tell me that it could have been the end of her and that I SHOULD BE SMARTER than that..Can you imagine...
I just hit the roof and said excuse me...
First of all your hubby (stepfather Jim) got up and saw the condition you were in and did not call 911..when I was made alert of the fact that you were having difficulties I not only spoke to you 10 times but call Sharon (sister) who told Jim to take you to the hospital...again you did not go...
I travelled to Barrie to meet both you and Jim, fought with you about going, finally I GOT INTO the vehicle and said We're going did I not?
Then the doctor at the hospital wanted you to have a scan and you fought that, said absolutely not that you'd go see your own doctor, he just shook his head as did I...
DO NOT put any of this 'how could you not call 911' on me lady..blame here is not where it should be..you are a stubborn lady and wouldn't go...even your neighbors tried...
And then to make matters worse YOU WOULD NOT go on Monday as the doctor said you must because it might hamper your going to the city...
YOU TELL that Doctor that I was 45 minutes away from you, NOT in your home as was JIm so do not want it said I"m the silly one...
LORDY/LORDY I was mad..
So she got her 7 block lights done minus the cords as she has them at home, they are back to the cottage..hmmm..talk about being frustrated with that lady!
Hello girls, calmed down enough to go purchase the things I need to make Ruby's applesauce cake, something substantial for supper, lol..and enjoy MY OWN company..
Thanks Melissa for sharring Tori's adventure..isn't that the most gorgeous playhouse you've ever seen...
How is Tori doing today? Tell her I'm waving..how is the art coming..ask her is she'd share a photo of one of them?
Judy you made out like a bandit...love your swap items...
Must you cook supper tonight or will Steve..know he enjoys cooking, almost think you enjoy doing so about as much as I right? lol
Stacey and Gita, know you'd be after me sooo didn't do them, did help somewhat but that's ok..probably only took her 1 1/2 to get them all done..now I'm minus the ribbon..says she'll get the replacements to me shortly...
So my dear ladies..off to the grocery store, ought not to tak more than 10 minutes for so, will put something on for supper, go get the basement Christmas tree out, decorate it (that's relaxing for me so don't panice girls) and maybe even wrap a few gifts..that just about ought finish off the day!
oh betty, so sorry for all that, imagine!
oh hands on hips for sure!
what posessed her to snap at you like that? after all you do!
oh my hearts just breaks for you on that, will be shaking head all day behind that, do try to find some quiet time to relax for a few to gather your thoughts ((((((((hugs))))))))) psss i'll have a couple smokes for you :)
LOL Lizzzzzzzzzz..Have a couple for me too...I haven't had a cigarettte for a few months now...and there are times I would love one..
Betty..good for you to tell her like it happened..she probably has no recollection of the actual events...but I guess you weren't angry enough for her to leave, so I guess you and she will carry on.
Nice Santa's..glad your girls enjoyed..Did they all hear the heated exchange between you and your Mum?
So I made Ruby's applesauce cake with a couple of changes. I don't keep eggs in the house as I am on a low fat, low cholesterol diet.
I substituted ground flax seed and a bit of water for the eggs. Ruby said she used a bundt pan..but I don't have one of those but do have an angel food cake pan..so I used it. No walnuts ..so used some ground almonds..
I had to cook it longer..It took about 1 hr. for my oven. It makes a big cake..and very moist.
Thanks Ruby....it has been raining hard here all day..so this was a great diversion for the day.
Cheers,
Carol
P.S...it tastes good too..just had a slice..
Zhinu..(Laura)..I just went back and looked at the blown up photo of your wedding ring set.
Beautiful..just lovely the way the wedding band fits in with the engagement ring.
Just on my way to the grocery store..
Don't have either of those pans, do you think it will matter in the cooking process...oh I do have a glass odd shaped cooking utensil that you can put the chickens behind on to stabilize it for cooking..it's glass but might work..
Went upstairs with the recipe and now I can't find it so must go back through the threads..
Yes, the heard me and were laughing which probably made it sound more on the joke side than the angry side which I was...omg Liz, you are terrible, put down those cigarettes...now look at how well our Carol is doing without them..you are aren't you Carol? difficult I'm sure...
It is raining so hard here, was almost tempted not to go out..my thoughts is to also pick up hot chocolate to go with the cake..then a warm bath, just turned the furnace up again, and relax...
If I soon don't get out the door I'll go to plan 'b' nothing...
Going to try and bring in the bix christmas tree from back shed, rather heavy but maybe I can drag it..will do that on my way back...
Might need help on the cake..
I copied emailed it to myself....so I ahve it handy
Applesauce Cake by Ruby
1/2 cup of butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 1/2 cups applesauce
1/2 cup of raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Cream butter and sugar until light. Add eggs beating well after each one. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture, alternating with applesauce. Turn batter into greased lightly floured pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until done. Cool in pan.
Ruby uses a bundt pan..
I used an Angel food cake pan..
If you have a 9x13 cake pan I would try that..as it makes a large cake...or maybe try 2 loaf pans.
P.S...just had another piece with coffee..mmmm good

Just back from the grocery store Carol, you are tempting me..was going to wait till early tomorrow morning to make it but might get ambitious tonight..
Must tell you though, when you don't really cook and eat out most of the time and you decide to go get flour/raisins,applesauce,sugar etc. and etc....hmmmm might have been easier taking a trip $$$$ wise and buying a cake at the bakery..wouldn't be the same though would it...
I peeked Suzanne I think!! Glad you stood up to her Betty!! Good for you!! That cake does sound good-mom does one I have been trying to get the recipe for, Pumpkin Dump Cake......
Didn't start the cake, will be an early morning project..I just cannot warm up, chilled to the bone ...turning all the lights off, blowing out about a doz candles , downstairs feeding the furries and off to bed I go...
Our Dawn just posted on the old thread, moving her over

Ok I tried to read 50 or 100 posts but find myself skipping or skimming to catch up, so Betty did your mom have a stroke and is she out of the hospital? How scary, I totally would have been shaking and pacing too.
I live about 35 miles or so from the Grapevine. Man it does get ugly there. it is so funny for you guys that get snow, but in California unless you live in a skii or mountain community, you never know how to handle driving in weather and most people do not have chains and snow tires do not exhist, no one salts the roads, just plows here and there dust off and come out. Usually they close the Grapevine that someone was talking about. (Hi whoever you were, sorry, i am an oldy to the thread and forgot who you were, 100 threads later lol), but people get stuck with no jackets, no water, no anything, sitting on a snowy freeway over night or more some times. It is funny too that it is so close yet so far from me, since we are a valley, we are surrounded by mountains and mountain communities and mountain passes yet only get snow that sticks and stays once in a decade. We get snow in the local area a few times a year but it is not everywhere and does not stay for more than a few hours a day or only in higher elevations in the town.
Betty it is so different in California, place to place, Norther, Central, Southern California and the coast is so different and there are 20 subclimates in each of those except the Coast.
Dawn, how lovely to see you post..so cold so off to bed I go..will respond in the morning ok sweetie...
This thread moves so fast!!!
Glad you stood up for yourself Betty.
I thought I wanted to get mine tacked together, but after about a year, I decided I prefer them not that way....you may decide that you don't want it, but if you do it isn't hard and shouldn't be terribly expensive.....something in time that can be done...
Nope, where I got the rings should be able to do it while I wait if I want, and DH wants to get his made a little looser anyways.
It's a cold snowy day here in my town..
Up early making Ruby's Applesauce Cake, bringing out the basement tree to decorate
AND it's our Victorian Santa Workshop, all getting together to craft..
So, busy, busy but never to busy for all of you..will be back for breaks, cup of coffee and cake in hand..so wish I could share...better wait till after I make it before saying that, my baking has a tendency at times to BURN!
Carol, off to bake my 'yummies' let's hope it turns out ... thanks for the info on the pans...
Is it snowing in your town?
*&^% )(*&^% $%^
Yep,that's how I feel, Ruby/Carol, got the butter/sugar now onto the flour..
OMG not suppose to have a couple little black critters crawling in it is there, do they add an extra flavour...
YUK, creepy crawlies, guess it's a sign I don't bake much..left over I believe since easter..
So all in garbage, will have to start fresh once the stores open so I can get more flour...
Variety store in town opens about 8 if not, won't be till 10..wouldn't you know...lol
Quck post..
Maybe it's a sign saying 'DON'T MAKE IT!'
HI Betty,
Good Luck with your cake. What size pan are you going to use?
No snow..just wind and rain..power flickered off and on several times in the middle of the night..weird..turning on the TV and the lights sometimes..Had to get up and turn off the TV again..had to reset all the clocks this morning.
Talked to my #2 son Scott yesterday and he said he would come and put my snow tires on this week sometime. Now that is a sign of winter..LOL
I am watching your Victorian Santa threads..I have a Victorian Santa that is off white with gold accessories. ..not handmade..store bought.. It is fun to see all the different colours and decorations that your pals have done.
I may remake a pinecone wreath today. It needs some sprucing up. I have lots of cones lying around on the ground outside...and some I collected last year.
Now remember this is my store bought Santa..not handmade.
Have a great crafting day.
Cheers,
Carol
OMG! Betty..
we cross posted...
That flour shouldn't have been bad so soon..
I keep mine in a plastic tupperware container because I don't use much flour either.
Betty remember you can keep flour in the freezer. That is where I keep my extra.
Spent yesterday reading threads. Doing laundry, dishes, a couple of things outside. Made a Boiled Dinner and some will go in the freezer. Cleaned some ashes out of the stove. Gosh I know I did more. Got in about a 15 minute nap until the phone rang. Cleaned the live mouse traps so I could use them in the house. The fish filter. Watched 2 movies last night.
Set up the traps! No luck! The snap traps have peanut butter on them and he won't touch them! This mouse is smarter then us!
I still have a few flowers trying to survive after many freezes and a snow!
only corner I could put it in...so wish the photo would show it's true beauty...with lights flickering, all the silver but it just shows a mishmash...
Must go out as well and get snowtires..last year witht he car being new they said the all season radials would be fine..don't think I'd trust them this year...did a lot of mileage since it was new...
So at the end of the old fashion movie I was watching while decorating the tree in the basement..old war movies, heart wrentching and it's brought me to tears...can you tell me why we do such things...
Carol, I made pine cone wreaths years ago, none left..one year I'll get back on track and do another...not so quick in doing them, I remember the burnt fingers..ouch
Vicki, omg you didn't stop yesterday..you must be so pleased with what you've accomplished.
Great idea about the flour girls....
Vicki, praying you catch all those little critters...
Off to look for flour.
Betty I think I caught one. I can hear it moving in the trap! I feel sorry for it but they multiply too fast and won't stay outside!
lol vicki, to funny i have 5 traps in garage and finally caught a rat whoo hoo doing victory dance
Liz I am so happy I don't have rats that close to the house! In the barn when we raised animals. The mice are bad enough! LOL This one kept getting on the cubbard. In the 33 years we have lived here never on the cubbard before! Gives me the heebie jeebies! Got to get the bleach out soon!
Betty..your tree is gorgeous!
Nothing like going shopping in a variety store with jammies on..wouldn't you know -3 older men buying lottery tickets, none gave me a glance..wonder why lol
2 cakes a cooking..if it's for 45 minutes it will be 9:30 take out time...must keep myself on track..eating excess applesauce for breakfast..yummy....
Carol, you said you cooked your for 1 hr. how did you determine you needed to do that?
Vicki, omg a big yuk...now I'll be listening for movement in my cupboards..no won't..I have 2 kitties and one is a hunter...
Liz, you must be getting ready to visit the in-laws..you are up so early girl...are rats a thing in California..please say 'NO'...
Carol, really the photo doesn't do it 1/4 justice..
OH must tell you..I'm awful with old movies, usually turn it off at the last minute because I don't want to see a bad ending..well while I was typing my post with you earlier, went back and they were in church, a blessing for all who had died in the air strike, in walks the hubby so I'm thinking hmmm thought it was he, then in walked the soldier son, thought it was he, not, then it came out that in the bombing it was the 2 bride of only 2 weeks who had married the son...
Another old one on, let's hope its a ha/ha/ha movie...
Ditto on the tree Betty and Starzz. Again, as I read I am amazed at the speed that Betty goes and all that she is able to accomplish in a day. What she does in a day is usually a weeks worth of activity for me. ha-ha
Betty, I agree with the others who said that you did well by standing up to your mother. I know that it is hard. Try to remember that some of her behavior may be caused by the stroke damage or something. This still doesn't give her the right to accuse you of anything. It sounds as though you did all that you could to help her and she was the one going against doctor's advice. I hope that things will settle down for you where she is concerned. It must be really hard.
Carol, the cake looked lovely. Mine usually comes out a much darker brown color. You made some interesting changes to the recipe so that may be what is making the color difference. Betty, I hope that if you get to make your cake that it will turn out well for you.
Good to hear from everyone else. I love hearing about the Victorian Santa's that some of you are doing. The picture here is lovely. I liked your store bought one too Carol. It is getting close to time for me to send someone to the attic and bring down my decorations. I now have out a couple of ceramic turkeys on my dining room table that I bought at the Christmas Tree Shops a few weeks ago. After I put them away I will begin my Christmas decorating.
I hope that everyone will have a good day today. Take care ladies.
Ruby
I watched a Hallmark movie last night that was heart warming. A rich Beverly Hills widow took in a group of homeless people. The neighbors tried sueing her to get rid of them. She deeded her house to them and then no one had to leave. Pretty good movie.
Ruby
Betty--
You probably had pantry weevils in your flour. If you put a couple Bay Leaves around your pantry and one or two in your flour canister, they might stay away. Many times they already come in the flour--just not hatched yet. Who knows what ALL we eat and don't know about it!
Ves--Mice sure are starting to come in. I had a call at work (I answer the phone at HD) from a lady who had mice problems. She was looking for one of those ultra sonic pest machines. I told her they cost about $150 and then "educated" her on how she can , at least, try to keep mice from coming in.
For one--a mouse needs ONLY a 1/2" opening to come and go. Try to walk around your house from outside and caulk up any opening around the premises--no matter how small. Look where cables and pipes come in--small gaps around the foundation, et.
Inside--check under your sink and stuff steel wool around all your plumbing pipes. Pull out your stove (if you can) and do the same where the gas lines come up from below. Try not to have crumbs of food anywhere for them to dine on.
The few mice I have caught were under the lift-up stove top. Man! Did that need a cleaning under there!!!! I have done all I can do. Will see if I see any this winter....
Gita
Morning Ruby, yes I'm excited about getting all my Christmas pretties out..sure wish my camera could reflect the true beautify, anyway, more boxes coming in from storage..lol
OHHHH my 2 cakes turned out Ruby/Carol..do you think I must wait till cool to eat? Wouldn't a bit of icecream or cool whip do wonders...
Now I'm in a quandry..what is a little girl like me going to do with 2 cakes...one I might freeze and the other, well I was just talking to June and she's coming over at 3:00 so we might make a dent in it..
Carol, did love you Victorian Santa as well...there were so many at the Garden Center on Thursday night that I could have come home with a vehicle full..
Me in my jammies, curling my hair and who comes to the door was Cliff (Bernice's hubby) wanted to know if I had any damage here last night...guess he forgot to lock his car door and young adults filled the van with snow, he and Bernice were on their way to church but couldn't go, will take awhile to clean out...
Footprints come across the road and into neighbors yard..easy to follow with snow on the ground...now isn't it odd that they have 2 teens who are always into trouble???
Wonder if he knocked at their door...oh maybe to make their day later I'll bring them a piece of my cook IF it taste as good as it smells and looks...
Gita, come in my flour, eggs..omg that's not good...giving me the shivers...thanks for the leaf info..will try but then I'm not planning on becoming a cook...so maybe little bags of flour when I'm baking then throw away..don't want those critter around..
And yes, when we lived on the farms, we did the steel wool thing near the pipes and yes it works...
