Hey forgot to say have good shopping afternoon. Ho, ho, ho Betty...you love to christmas shop...
Hello all, I am home and bored... My daughter broke her femur at school a few days ago so we won't be leaving the house much for some time!
I need to chat with some grown ups. :)
Hey Betty, Haven't chatted in a while thought I'd drop in and say hi, while Tori sleeps.
Ooooh! You have my sympathy!
Ouch! I've broken my arms 5 different times but never a thigh. That's a big bone to break, poor girl I bet she's in some pain. I have absolutely nothing to do here at work and would much rather be home sewing on my Santa but NNOOOOOOOOO I'm stuck.
We can be stuck bored together!

She uses a power wheelchair and is non ambulatory so her bones aren't as strong as most. She was in a disabled safety swing and the safety harness gave way. She fell out and landed on her knee. Crushed the bottom of her femur and broke a piece off...
She is really bummed about missing a field trip to the philharmonic with her gifted and talented class, and she is going to miss dissecting owl pellets. Her regular 4th grade teacher brought her some work, as did the gifted teacher, but it's not the same as taking apart owl barf with your friends. LOL
Sewing a Santa sounds fun! I actually have an order from my shop that I should be sewing but I am not feeling motivated...
Just had a look at your lovely bags Tombak.
Hope your Torie heals quickly.
Ruby..do you use a 8x8 cake pan or a loaf pan for your Applesauce cake?
Betty sure enjoyed seeing all your Christmas purchases..
Hi Gita
Oh that sucks tombaak, is her knee ok? I bet she is bummed, poor thing. Why did the safety harness break??? I'd be a little upset over that. Nothing like dissecting owl barf! We never got to do anything cool like that, we got to dissect chicken thighs that were bought at the grocery store. The boys were complaining it wasn't gooey enough and the girls were complaining that it was too gooey lol.
LOL, I still hate to cut up chicken!
Yeah, I am bent! The swing's safety latch just totally failed. I am not sure what the school is doing, they took the swing down before we had even left in the ambulance.
I never got to dissect anything either and certainly not in 4 th grade! It is her gifted class that is doing it not regular 4th grade. Guess if I were smarter growing up I would have been able to. LOL
I am a featured artist on Etsy today. They needed a picture so Tori took it http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=21136 the pictures are pretty good for a 9 year old (I think anyway).
She has friends over so I get a quick break from board games.
I was in 5th grade when we did the chicken thighs. The State of CA wouldn't let the kids cut up anything that hadn't been processed, they were afraid of spreading diseases. That was in the early 80s.
Hmmm... you think owl vomit has cooties?
:)
I think they sterilize it somehow.
Oh probably, the technology has changed somewhat since then lol! I guess it is better than dissecting owl poop lol sorry, way sorry, that was gross.
We dissected frogs in high school and my son college class dissected cats. And I'm A CAT LOVER!
Hey gross is right up a 4th graders alley. Or dinner conversation in a house with a 9 and 5 year old. :)
cats :(
So, couldn't do that !!! That's just hitting way too close to home.
Well hello Tombaak, here you are visiting and I'm out Christmas shopping..just got home..
OMG my heart goes out to Tori...how is she doing this evening...bet you were just frantic...
Featured artist..hey girls, got a celebrity amongst us...lol..how wonderful..I did visit the site quite a few times, do you think that could be why you are not #1??? Just wondering...have you been selling many?
Does that mean Tori won't be able to get to the playhouse for awhile? Thank goodness the school is doing something immediately...
Girls, Tombaak has a lovely story to share with you all (won't you?) Some of you may have heard it but it sure is worth repeating.. if anyone doesn't believe in 'earthly angels' as I call them Tori will confirm there definately are some...
You say you are housebound so come on, share that wonderful story with all...please?
Making a face here, yuk..not into disecting anything...as our Liz would say 'oooooohhhhhh' lol as I hold my nose up...nope, not me...
Carol, you baking already? shucks I won't get to it before Sunday..what do you have planned for the weekend?? Guess what, starting to take my Christmas things out Carol so my basement can look as pretty as yours...sure wish I'd left it out all year like you did..much less work..except for the dusting right?
Oh Crissy your kittie is adorable...glad you were around to keep Tombaak company...we used to gab quite a bit when the playhouse was being built for Tori...
Hey everyone, just popping in to say hello-am making dinner then offf to bed for work tomorrow:(
Stacey that sucks...sure wish you have more time to play..you feeling any better?
I'm heading to bed as well..
Have my meds to take, hot bath and off I go..
Suzanne enjoyed her afternoon at the toy warehouse...all is much to young of toys for my grandchildren....I managed to purchase some to ship on behalf of santa..so all and all a fun afternoon..
Didn't she stop at Canadian Tire on the way home..I've 2 beautiful pre-lit christmas trees..one for outside front deck and one for the basement..
Now that I no longer have a sectional I could put a tree in front of the big window facing the street but they are all much too large in the bottom width for what I needed..so, just wanted a little scrawny tree to put there with mega lights so it can be seen from the street...one had to come home with me...alread fluffed...not sure how I'll decorate that one...
It's off to bed, I'm just sooo tired and earache is killing me..meds should start shortly..
night/night everyone
Ok, someone is still eating the "bread crumbs" whatever we're using now (I think that was this thread, if not let me know and I'll explain) I found this tread and SI in the new threads list. Why am I missing them?
I don't know Laura. The pages turn quickly since several of us are on dial up. But this one has a ways to go yet.
I think the post needs to be bolded. I went back and looked and it was hard to find even knowing it's there.
I'm so glad it's Friday. I'm looking forward to getting some things around the house done and just relaxing. I babysat for three days this week. I enjoy babysitting but it does mean that I don't get as much other things accomplished as I would like.
On Wednesday I saw the first snowmobiler of the season but now most of the snow has melted again. Of course that means that there's mud and potholes everywhere. I wish it would just freeze and stay cold.
Gita, you may appreciate this. I was talking to my mom today and she was telling me that she was not going to have a Christmas tree this year. It's the first year that my parents haven't had at least one of their children living with them so she doesn't feel like she needs to put up a tree for the kids. She used to always say how much of a hassle it was to bother with a Christmas tree. Of course we always had to get a real one too so the needles would make a big mess. We had a fair amount of property so it didn't make much sense to us kids to get an artificial tree when we had fields full of real ones. My mom is very practical and has a tough shell, but is soft on the inside. I like your tootsie pop analogy.
I hope you all are enjoying your Victorian Santa making. I'll have to check out all the pictures.
Hello Again All - I decided that I should start reading this thread first again today if I want to stay caught up.
So much fun hearing about everyone being in the holiday spirit. Can't help but be if you are hanging around Betty. I am ahead on buying my gifts and can't think of too much more that I need to get, but you make me want to shop more Betty!!! It will be all your fault if I over spend this year. ha-ha I have a long grocery list that I will shop at Walmart for. I am sure that when I finally get there, I will find other things that will be too tempting to pass up buying.
Carol, you asked what type of pan I baked the cake in. I always use a Bundt style pan. Any thing will work though, you may just need to adjust cooking time a bit. For anyone who tries this recipe, I hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do.
I hope that everyone will have a nice weekend. Be good and take good care.
Ruby
Tombaak, you are a new person to me. Welcome. I clicked on the link to the artist of the day site and couldn't figure out who you were and which items were yours. Do you have another link to click in order to see your wares? Thanks.
Ruby
morning Ruby, Deborah, Laura , Gillian and others...
As forcasted it's rain today and tomorrow so good day to be in doing crafts...easy day only 4 or 5 here..1 happens to be my mom who wants to do the light blocks..called me at 11:30 last night, she and Jim just got in from seeing Humperdinkle or whatever his name is on stage at Rama..said he looked marvellous..then proceeded to tell me that she forgot her ribbon/lights so could I go in search of them..shaking my head here...
SIL CHarlene just started a job so she's upset she has to work today so I offered to do hers...
Gillian, OMG can't believe the snowmobilers are out..I should be making those knitted dickie (belaclava) with deer hide on them for sale up there..lol..can't get cold wearing one of those...a hit down here ... Am sure my Greg / Jeff / Melanie are all waiting for snow and the freeze so theirs can come out..not many years they are able to use them before Christmas...they are one step ahead, I have trail pass bought as one of the gifts..I wouldn't imagine the snowmoblilers up there need trail passes do they?lucky for them if they don't...
Ruby you will love Tombaak..her little daughter Tori a few years back (could it be that long) so wanted a playhouse so that she would have a place of her own, with ramps to accommodate the wheel chair...we'll the Lord and earthly angels came through, you should see the playhouse that was built..I want to move into it..a dream house for sure...Tori spends many hours with friends enjoying the gift...prayers for her this morning...
Ruby just think, you can shop like Betty does, a gift for someone, a gift for me, gift for someone, a gift for me...imagine the treasures you'll have for yourself..lol..
You must remember other than the larger gifts I go in search of warehouses and manage to pick many up for friends under $5.00 so I can shop a lot more....
Waving Laura, yes on the next thread I'll bold it..you see I have my own way to find the my watched threads..simple so I never think it might be difficult for others...
Deborah, how's the santa doing..
Well I'm in jammies, load of wash done, want to wash the upstairs floors..with Sailor/Missy and Riley in and out and it raining, lots of little foodprints on my floor..won't really take long then I thought if I'm ready I'll head out to Tim Hortons for a doz. of donuts for the girls then start my day..I'm hoping to be done by noon or 1 so I can get all my Christmas things out and get the lights/trees done outside, deck tree decorated and then enjoy the day..ooops what part of the day will be left?
Talk later
OMG Betty-already a load of wash done-you been up since 4 lady!!LOL It takes almost 2 hrs for me to wash and dry a load!!
What is a " knitted dickie (belaclava) with deer hide"???
Supposed to rain and snow here for the next 3 days:( Gotta get the house cleaned for Thanksgiving and get my crafties all done...
Good Morning - I have a couple of pressing things that need to be done. They are things that have been on m y "to do" lists for over a week. I need to package up some seeds for a couple of people and write a few notes to be mailed. I am not sure what my mental block regarding these things are, but I am having a difficult time starting on them.
I am trying to decide whether to go grocery shopping today and chance getting rained on, or going on a day when it isn't so wet. In the mean time I need to get my butt up from here and begin to do something. I hope that everyone will have a good weekend.
Ruby
AHHH-Ruby-I so wish you woulda posted this last night or yesterday!!LOL That reminds me I was meaning to bring tahnk you notes to work to do!!LOL
As soon as all the santa faces are poured/painted and gowns sewn/gathered I'm going to bring my trolley with all my card making supplies and get at it as well..I found the lovelies poem with regards to why we are sending someone a card so must get it printed on colored christmas paper so I can insert them into the cards..
Ruby, unless you are starving I'd wait till a non-rain day..rain days are nice days just to sit around ..
UGGGG I usually have so much patience but my Mother is starting to get to me, she does have a habit of letting others do things for her...
She just called 8:30 just getting up..it's at least 45 minutes from her cottage to here...as I'm starting at 9:00 I guess she'll be late..
Then she says, because she forgot her ribbon/lights maybe she'd wait till next weekend..I said I'd be busy in Barrie and then Markham so wouldn't be home..well I'll come another weekend..told her really it's today or NOT!
So then she goes on how Jim won't let her drive, that perhaps I'm better to make them all and she'll get them sometime...so told her NOT, I'm so committed that I really don't have time...
Then she says, SOOOO is your ribbon as nice as the one I bought? hell I don't know, bought it at Joanne's the day after Christmas when the sales were on????
What will Jim do if he comes and has to wait? he's got things to do..yep, know that feeling because so do I..hey maybe I'll get the Christmas lights for front deck, the metal tree out so he can put it together and what else could I find for him to do...must be something..
Ultimate outcome..who knows, probably she'll not come, I'll feel guilty and do them..
Talked to brother Bernie last night, says to me did you know mom's going for a brain scan and it's quite a wait to get one? lol...DO I FEEL SORRY for her, nope, we were at the hospital last Sunday would have only taken another 1/2 hr. Doctor pressed her to get one done, nope wouldn't do it..so, wait...
Aren't I being cruel???
Just incase you missed this post on the other thread, thought I'd move it over...
Laura (ZHINU)
I finally got my wedding rings today! It was really weird putting them on and realizing I was going to be wearing them basically for the rest of my life. To explain: We got married two years ago, but my rings are custom made. They finished my rings about a moth after we got married, but the same day I got laid off. Then we decided that I needed to stay home to be there for my Step-daughter. So, living off one income we haven't been in a position to do more than make a token payment since then, but we got a settlement today and the first thing we did was buy our rings.
I went with a non-traditional wedding ring, but it's perfect for me. Here's a picture
Beautiful..bet you feel like a newlywed all over again..honeymoon city right?
They certainly did a beautiful job....
Betty,
Good for you for not letting your Mom use and abuse you! Stick to your guns--and NO guilt trips!!! Promise???
She sounds very manipulative--and you have, probably, grown up with that--so it is hard to change. But--you do not have to do things for her if she can do it herself....NO Pitty Party!
OK! I am off my soap-box again......Gita
Betty-DO NOT MAKE THEM DARNED THINGS-NO WAY LADY!!! You are far to mature to allow the guilt trip-and she is far to old to act so immaturely (sp?)
If you start to do them hit your hand with a mallet, then you will be in too much pain to do them!!LOL-JK of course
Good morning!
(((((Gita))))) right back. lol, yep you got me, remeber tootie pop commercial with owl? Used to just love that,
How many licks to get to the middle? 1..2..Crunch, 3!!
P.S. can't wait to see your Santa too, You are a wonderful crafter so i am betting Santa will be Delightful!
Oh Laura what a beautiful ring.
Oh my gosh, so much to say and so little time...Got company coming tonight and bummer forcing me to have to clean up this mess!
Wanted to work on Santa but will have to wait oh well I can play all day tomorrow then!
I was in my glory yesterday, Got my Wreath from Swap buddie, Sistah BJ...It's just stunning, lol LK I am still smiling!
It was her first ever wreath and it's incredible.
Then I received another First...Deborah, Made a beautiful set of pot, holder oven mit(jude size) and the cutest little apron for my dish detergent!! ...Got to clarify it's her first Machine sewing project....And She did a beautiful job!
I am going to wiz through this house on a cloud for being so happy and lucky!
Betty, I think you ought to concentrate on your gifts too, if mom wants to make these gifts then she could certainly only make one at your house with your ribbon . Then take the rest home and make the rest of HER gifts with her ribbon.
Hi Tombak, Welcome...Sorry had to run yesterday...Oh goodnes, so sorry to hear about your daughter! How dreadful.
Ewwwwing with everyone on diseccting, yikes anything. Glad your daughter is into though, mine loved that too. Anything to do with science!
Oh my gosh time flying Better get to work here,
Enjoy your day everyone.
Se you on a break!
My goodness this thread moves fast. For those of you who don't know me I am melissa my daughter (I have 2) got a playhouse from Make-a-Wish a few years ago. It doesn't seem that long to me either Betty! Betty was kind enough to send the girls all sorts of fun painting stuff. I'll put a picture up of the playhouse.
Long story short two different contractors agreed to make the playhouse and backed out. a year later Make-a-Wish got a hold of a local company who agreed to do it. I thought they would put up a fancy shed, paint it cute etc. The head construction guy, Gail, from the company came out to meet Satori, Tori for short and they just hit it off, we still talk to him and his wife :)
In the end the "playhouse" ended up fully insulated with a heater and air conditioning unit, it has 6 fully functional windows, crown moulding, and the list just goes on and on. She named it "The Dragon's Lair" and had them paint it green. She loves dragons!!
It was a wonderful experience and showed me that there are some really wonderful people at every turn in life :)
This is the day it was delivered.
