Well the 'don't bring home any strays' my mother always told me when I left the house ran through my mind today several times. Only difference is I laughed and said out loud..."Never left the house Mom, it was outside waiting for me". LOL Maybe she sent it?? Anyways here's what I had to rescue today, it was shivering, can not open it's eyes yet but that could be from cold... Not sure yet.
It has teeth and ate some shredded carrotts for me tonight and is pooping and peeing on it's own. (all over DH shirt! lol) Both eye's have a crusty junk on them, we used a warm wash cloth and gently washed them a couple of times a today, they look better.
This picture is blurry but this is a 6oz can of pieapple juice beside it for size comparison.

It's adorable! But this was in the field...not a good picture but thats a bald eagle down at the bottom of my back forty. It would of made a snack of that baby.

I AM very lucky in that aspect, but Mr. Moose has not made himself seen this year....just his tracks. He has not made him self visible the last 2 years and for that reason I have had great crops of blueberries! lol
Well, good for the blueberries, I imagine a moose eats a lot more than a deer.
Oh Pixie! That is the most precious little baby I ever did see! It was very fortunate that you got there when you did.
What you may want to do is go to a vet that you trust and get some ointment for the little one's eyes to help heal the infection. Also, goat's milk that you can get from the grocery store is supposed to be well tolerated by bunnies. They will have kitten nursing bottles at the vet's office that you can use. I bet the baby could still use the nourishment from the milk since it is so young. Keep us updated!

I don't remember who told me, my Grandfather I think....said that wild rabbits won't usually have a batch this late in the season. Normal breeding is between Feb. - Sept.
I also know that a neighbor let 5 domestic rabbits go this summer, 2 are large bowns ones that live under Auntie's house next door. We wondered if this was abandoned by them or not so we left a string around the baby for a few hours to see if Momma would come. If the string was moved then I knew it was being tended, it had not moved and the baby bunny was shivering so we brought it in. Most of the time if there is a weak baby the parents will kill it, but I wonder if they booted it out and because it couldn't see it wandered over here.
Doesn't matter now, it lays on DH chest/neck area and goes to sleep. Big 6 foot, 230lb. DH has been reduced to a puddle of mush by a 5" long white fur ball!!

That is waaaay funny about DH. Mine is the same way. Very big guy and drove delivery for UPS for about 30 years. Had his bosses shaking in their shoes but he is a pile of mush around the furbabies.

That ia definitely a domestic baby....good save! White without snow on the ground is a DEFINITE target! I'll bet those birds of prey were cussing you out! How sweet. The biggest thing is the transition from milk to solid food. Is its eating solids exclusively, then don't bother about the milk. You could upset the gut flora. You can even try cooked oatmeal mixed with cooked fruits or raisins, and add soaked bunny pellets, and/or fresh greens. Bunnies usually open their eyes at about, if memory serves, 2-4weeks for domestics. WIld bunnies are on their own by 4 weeks!

Thanks Morrigan, I just read to try feeding the milk if eyes weren't open but he/she didn't want it. Next I shredded a room temp. fresh carrott and feed it to him/her one at a time. I didn't need to massage the genetials as it defacated on Brian's(DH) shirt all by it's self! lol
I have washed him up a bit and you can see his eyes are crusted slightly. I'll need to get some meds for this, but I think it's just a cold virus..cross my fingers!

I think i'll keep him until spring and then he'll be Oryanna's new pet. lol It already loves the human touch, responds when you coo to it and eats out of my hands. It will be parting with it that will be hard come spring! Less than 24 hours and im attached. NOT GOOD!
