That's a great shot Jackie!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Jackie that is a magazine shot! awsome!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Joseph, Ronnie and Debra. I wish I had grown it this summer, I missed
those pretty blooms. Maybe next yr.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Your vine looks awesome, Jackie! Such healthy looking leaves and a pretty bloom! :-)

Not too much blooming here the last day or two, but ... I did get a wonderful surprise this morning ...

Blue Star was blooming it's buds off today! This vine and the Moonflower are looking like a nice combo to grow all along the picket fence next year. The reason I say that is because neither vine has any rust fungus damage to the leaves. Are they resistent to rust?

And I got a great shot of different stages of the forming seed pods! Looks like I am going to get lots of seeds from this vine! :-) :-) :-)

I am thinking how pretty it would look growing with the Moonflower vines! I am sooo considering that. And maybe I'll throw some Kohkan in there as well! LOL! All nice, large, beautiful blooms!!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

wow how beautiful! Oh yes ,grow them together that would be AWSOME..

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks, Debra! I think that combo of white (moonflowers) and this beautiful Blue Star would really be a sight to see! Large vines that would probably completely cover the picket fence and arbor. It would be a sight for sure! :-)

That area is such a hodge podge of plants and colors! I never know what colors are going to show up on any given morning! LOL!

Here are two pots of roses and mums that are sitting next to the picket fence where all the vines are growing! Such a splash of color everywhere. Reminds me of a multi-colored quilt! :-)

Becky girl.. that is my kinda garden.. colours everywhere.. keep em coming, I am enjoying them!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I released a male Queen Butterfly today after I got home from work. He flew right to this Moonflower bloom. I just happened to have the camera hanging from my neck! :-)

What an outstanding butterfly image, Becky! Awesome!

great butterfly shot!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks Joseph and Debra. Just sheer luck to get such photos! :-)

It may be winter for many folks right now, but in Florida it is perfect weather. I used Bloom Booster around my yard yesterday and it rained today! I couldn't have timed it better if I tried. Many folks use fertilizer in the Spring and Summer. Here ... Fall is the best time to get those plants blooming. The weather is not scorching hot and the sun has rotated in the sky and isn't beating down on the picket fence as it does in the summer. So I can actually hear the cheers from all the plants when I walk outside. I feel like I am getting a standing ovation when I see all the smiling flowers! They are really happy where they are growing this year. I finally did something right out there! LOL! I guess we gardeners live for moments like this, huh? :-D

Colin - My Cassia bushes are really starting to bloom now! :-) No surprise that the Butterflies that use this plant as a host plant are bright yellow! :-) I wish Fall could last forever here.

Debra - What do laurentia look like? Are there some in the photo you posted above? You've peaked my curiosity. ;-)

BTW - YOUR garden is outstanding! Love your selection of plants/flowers! So pretty!!!!

Becky where do you get the butterflies? Awesome!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Becky, Love your Blue Star and it would make a beautiful display with
your moonvine. Pretty butterfly too.

Debra, nice grouping of your blooms.

Thanks Ronnie and Jackie!

Ronnie - I plant a lot of different host plants for the various caterpillars/butterflies/moths that are found in my area. I collect the baby caterpillars (before the wasps get them) and raise them in cages through caterpillar instar stages, chrysalis, and finally as adult butterflies when I release them. I have actually kept butterflies in captivity and they mated and laid eggs in a mesh cage. (I did this because we had 2 weeks of unusually freezing winter weather one year!)

I have a blog that I added tonight showing many of the different species of butterflies that I have raised. But planting the right plants is the trick.

If you go to the Hummingbird and Butterfly forum and read the sticky thread, you'll get lots of great information about raising them.

I was thinking that those birds came to help me in the bid garden cleaning in autumn but they eat canna bulbs like a horse.
One month later everything will be grey only peacocks give a thouch of colour.

is that a vulturine guineafowl eating your cannas aswell danny?.... very nice

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the info Becky~I don't get as many exotic butterflies as you do though!!

Debra your yard is beautiful!!

Ceej~I know what you mean about the cabbage whites, pretty but pesty! What is bonfire night?

Dany I love the peacocks!

hi luvsgrtdanes

bonfire night is a uk custom for november the 5th it used to be about celebrating Guy Fawkes who planned to blow up parliment, we burn an effigy of him on top of a bonfire... anyway these days it's about getting together, big bonfires (bigger than next doors at the very least...lol) eating, drinking and fireworks.....

Debra - I would love some laurentia seeds! Thanks so much for the offer! :-) You've got so many interesting garden beds in your yard! Love all the vines! Simply beautiful! You and I have similar taste. Chain link fencing makes such a perfect structure to grow vines on. If we hadn't gotten the white vinyl privacy fencing, I would've definitely wanted chain link just for growing vines on! :-) Way to go with your beautiful yard!

Colin - You have a nice chunk of property for gardening! :-) I wished I had a larger lot. :-/ Interesting celebration on Bonfire night. I'd probably burn down my house if I did something like that! LOL

Dany - I had no idea that Peacocks eat Canna! Canna is consider a bit invasive here in Florida! Send some Peacocks my way! LOL!

Ronnie - Surprisingly, you get MORE butterflies than I do in my area. Go to this link and scroll down to see ALL the butterflies that frequent your area! If you click on the names of the butterflies ... you will see photos, get information about what host plants and nectar plants they prefer, and other interesting information about each species. If you plant host plants for various butterflies ... trust me ... if you plant it, they will come! :-) I never had butterflies come to my yard until I planted the plants they like! :-) http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/map?dc=285&_dcc=1&si=39

Cabbage White and Great Southern Whites like my Nasturtiums. I grow them just for the caterpillars! ;-)

Colin that is a pretty cool tradition!!

Becky thanks for the link, I quess we do get more than I thought! When you see some we don't get they just seem so more exotic! Here is one of my favorites that we had year before last...

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Ronnie - Oooooooh! Your Buckeye is such a beautiful color and pattern on those wings! I never see those here, though I have been told that they might be found here. Great photo!!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

A beautiful butterfly Ronnie. Looks like he's covered in giant eyes, the pattern
looking like a face. Even has a tongue sticking out. lol

Sorry I'm always behind...

Joseph, on your post on thread #24, I noticed that you sowed your mg seeds on a becel/margarine container, do you transplant them afterwards? do they do well after transplanting? I think that's a great idea. My mix seedlings of I. nil I've planted on their permanent position but this spot does not have enough light coming in most days and they've wilted =( (but the established ones that are about 1-3 months old are surviving...it's just the seedlings). I'm thinking of sowing them in a temporary container like what you've done and then transplant them when they are big enough but I'm too chicken because I was afraid that they will wilt.
