Ronnie - I plant a lot of different host plants for the various caterpillars/butterflies/moths that are found in my area. I collect the baby caterpillars (before the wasps get them) and raise them in cages through caterpillar instar stages, chrysalis, and finally as adult butterflies when I release them. I have actually kept butterflies in captivity and they mated and laid eggs in a mesh cage. (I did this because we had 2 weeks of unusually freezing winter weather one year!)

I have a blog that I added tonight showing many of the different species of butterflies that I have raised. But planting the right plants is the trick.
