The White Crowned Sparrows also love the worms...I'm going broke here!!

This is a Bewick's Wren eating in the feeding cage. The smaller birds have no problem getting in and out but the Mocker can only dream and try!

Last one for now...a Blue Jay from yesterday.

Dellrose: Great bunch of shots! You can tell some of your Goldfinches to head southeast. I have tons of thistle seed waiting for them.

Elphaba: Same here. The suet feeder is the only wooden one I have. The squirrels have a little trouble getting to it, but if they do, they can get the food without chewing on the wood! Every other feeder is metal. :)
Amazing what they will / can do for food. Chewed through one inch thick wood on a bluebird feeder once.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Deb...The Goldfinches were gone for about a month and I am so happy to have them back. I would be happy to send you a few if you will take some Red-winged Blackbirds to go with them!

This one looks like a Raccoon!

cute grackles!! I had a Grackle at the feeder the other day. Hadn't seen one for months.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh GP, that picture calls for captions!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I will agree that photo does need captions.... the grackles here bombard my feeders a couple times a year... right now they are still in full swing... they can eat you out of house and home... i have the one adjustable tension feeder so only one at a time can eat... before I had that one there used to be up to 15 of them on there going crazy.. could have filled that feeder twice a day

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Great shots everyone. That little junco is a darling!

The other day I saw a jackdaw on the top of my feeder pole, perched on one of the arms. To get to the half coconut shell filled with suet mix he hopped down the arm, got hold of the rope in his beak and pulled it up, then held onto it with his foot so he could get the suet. I so wish I could have gotten a photo!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

GP I agree that Grackle shot needs a caption and also that shot of the Dove on the shovel handle. I love it when the birds land on something like that.

Knip...that would have been a funny pic...birds can sure outsmart us!!

More clouds predicted today...I can hardly wait...NOT!!

Marlton, NJ

Rose,Excellent shots! Love the Carolina Wren.

GP, Love the pics; the Grackles a good one for caption.

Melbourne, FL

I was thinking caption when I took it......thanks everyone.

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

Great shots everyone. I am so envious but enjoy looking at all of your efforts. My computer is running out of disk space (bummer) so I'm trying not to upload anymore pics until I can free up some space. ;((

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

A pileated decided to chip away at a spot on my tree. Not the best of pictures, but ideas on what it was doing? Would it really make that big of an area for some insects?

this is a shot w/o the woodpecker. there's a deep hole in the middle from which it was eating (tilted its head while putting the beak in deep).

if it is insects, I'll be sure to get the arborist out here in spring to look at the tree and make sure that branch is ok.

and now for a more traditional picture (taken through a dirty window), if anyone ever wonders why we call the goldfinches "piggies", and why this time of year I have to fill up my multiple feeders every day and a half, here's why!

I also want to say that I love this bird watching forum. It is great to "hang out" with so many other bird lovers. I just love these guys, but none of my friends "get it". So thank you!

Evie, I think most of us have friends/family that just don't get it...and why we all hangout here at Dave's. I am getting it hard by the finches too!

I got this pic over the weekend. An American Goldfinch, a Red-bellied Woodpecker in the water dish and an American Robin who is a little dismayed I think!

Yep. Good idea to get it inspected. The tree is an ash. I'm not aware of any emerald ash borer in VT, but it is spreading, and a precautionary check would be wise.

Hello all. Like all the pics. I've been going to the local national parks to capture bird pics since they have pretty much left my backyard. I've bee working with my new camera and lens. Getting better as time goes by. Here's a pic of the Tufted Titmouse at one of the local park's Wildlife center bird feeder.

Here's a shot of the Nuthatch. I was so delighted to see this bird. Never seen one in person until now. It was fun watching them hop(walk) backwards.

Here's my 1st Bluebird. They greeted me when I entered the park. I took lots of shots while they were in the trees but the lighting was bad when I went but I gotta a few ground shots. Here's the Bluebird eating a spider.

Thanks, Resin.

The tree is actually a red maple, and is/was a forest tree (it was here when the house was built). We're trying to keep it as long as possible, but know it won't last forever.

Nanny - I can't believe you get two awesome birds together like that! I'm so jealous.
