SEEDS FOR NEWBIES

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Can always use more seeds!! Thank ya'll so much. I've been able to help with requests and send more than 10 packets!!!! So thanks in advance.

Well, Ard, if we notice you are acting a little crazy, we'll know why.!!! What I love with Kaleb and Ian are how they want to make sure they know where the other one is all the time. If they are both here and one gets ready to go, it's "I'm goin home now" and it's not but a couple minutes bubba's gone too.
Course when I'm tired and not quite up to video games, etc. and there is just one of them here, when he leaves, I think Ahhhh, now I can sit on the computer, then look out the window, and here comes the other one to "bisit" There goes that 30 minutes of peace.

Asked Ian who he loves the other day. "Kawub" Anyone else. Nope, just Kawub. Then he thought a minute and decided he loved Tucker too.

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

Got my seeds. You went to a lot of work, Gal!

Thanks

Jerry

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Glad you got them Jerry. Hope there were some you really wanted. When I first started anything was something I really wanted, but then I had no seeds, zilch. lol

Capitola, CA

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey guys. Do any of you have seeds or cuttings for corsican mint. I'm desperate for it and can't find any.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Bridget, it isn't too late at all. So, send away. People have been so generous , I hope to be able to keep it open for a long time.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Stacy, Genna, and Sue, your seeds will go out tomorrow.!!!

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

Lorraine,
I received the envy of seeds today. Thank you so very much. It was a bunch of colorful little presents. Thank you to everyone who sent the seeds. I just can't wait to get them planted .
Lorraine, I will send in some seeds to you to send to other Newbies. I have to get them packaged yet.
I am thankful for the friends at DG. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Lorriane,
I have a ton of hummingbird vine seeds and a few fuscia 4'oclocks. I'd love some Spanish Flag vine if anyone has some, Mexican salvia and Coral nymph salvia are also others I'd like to have.
What size envy is the best to send?
This is a pic of my hummingbird vine...butterflies love it too...easy to keep in check, just mow it!!
Thanks mj

I have 27 pounds of seed and could probably part with an ounce or two. No, Seriously, I will send a bunch of stuff to you LorraineR! I REALLY want some of the 'impatiens balfourii' seeds, though. A friend was supposed to get some for me, but I think she got too busy and forgot. My other option would be to buy some of those seeds - WHAT??? Spend money on seeds?? LOL!!! I tell sales clerks to destroy my receipts as I do not want to keep a record of how much I spend on plants and seeds!!
Happy Thanksgiving, all.
My seeds and SASBE will be on the way soon.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Mj, I thnk a 6 X 9 envy is probably about right. Not enough for a huge envy, and too much for a small one, so that seems to work best.

I have salvia and think I have some coral nymph. I think Pughbear sent some. I try to keep everythng organized, but notice I said "tried", but I'll grab them for you. The hummingbird vine is beautiful!! I'm sure they will be very popular! WE've really been getting a good selection. Everyone is sending really good stuff. Yah!!

I love your name basket_case, I should be basket case 2

Isn't it awful h ow we can always find a reason to buy new seeds? We know we can never plant all that stuff, but can't pass them up anyway. It is a bonafide addiction and we all need an intervention!! (Not yet though, let's get these newbies all addicted first)
This is one way I justify collecting every seed I see, I'm gonna give them away, so why not! lol No seed is safe! And if we don't keep the receipts that means they didn't cost anything. You know, like we take the calories out of birthday cake.! lol

Stacy, Genna and Sue, your seeds are winging their way to you. Waved good bye to them this morning.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

hi Lorraine,

thank you so much for this awesome offer... just when i thought this forum couldnt get any better : )

the seeds i would be most interested in would be succulents (not so much cacti, but the others), night blooming plants, roses (especially intoxicatingly fragrant ones), or anything for a butterfly garden.

but in the end i'll be happy to receive free seeds, so whatever you can do will be fantastic : )

i'll send out my envy on monday.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I have some stuff I think you'll like Jen! Be looking for your envy.! ^_^

Have a good Thanksgiving, everyone. ^_^

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Brigitte, got your envy and seeds today. Will get in the mail back to you on Monday. Thanks much for the seeds!! Lots of request for the California poppy!

If any of you know newbies who have joined recently, let them know about the thread. Wanna get seeds in as many hands as we can.!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

I was so thrilled to come home from Thanksgiving w/ the inlaws and find those seeds in the mailbox!!! I would even go through that (the inlaws) again for such a surprise! Thank you so much for the seeds Lorraine -what an awesome selection! You are an angel. :)

Canton, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi, Lorraine,

I will be sending a SASBE soon. I became a paying member immediately after finding the site about six months ago and have been in awe of everyone here since then! I will be trying my hand at WS for the first time, and the seeds will be a great help!

Thanks so much! Carol

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

INlaws for seeds huh? lol Glad there are some you like!! You sent a lot of nice stuff to share with the other newbies too, so the angel thing goes both ways. (Well, in my case, you can't find the halo cause the horns are in the way!! lol)

Carol, when you send your envy, make sure to stick a note in and remind you'll be wintersowing and I'll see you get some stuff that will work well . I wintersowed last year for my first time and it was awesome. I couldn't believe how well it worked.!

Hi everyone.
Christine, got your envy today. Will get it out in the morning!!

Got great seeds today from Roser, Poteger, Sunny and others. Again, I can't believe how generous all of you are.!!!

North, TX

Thank you Lorraine, I'll be excitedly awaiting....and let you know when it gets here.
Christine

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Christine, I hope I got stuff in there you can use. I wrote you a note to explain some of the things I sent, but then after the packet was gone I found the note. Obviously not in your packet.

I made sure you got your mex hats and some wildflowers, some mixed sunflowers, sent some herbs.
You asked for Texas wildflowers, etc. so sent some coneflowers, black eyed susans, and a couple other things I got from my back yard, where they grow wild.
Sent some Malamar spinach which is a beautiful cllimbing plant that is really good to eat. Lots of people just plant for it's foliage, but a salad is really good with it.

North, TX

Sounds wonderful Lorraine!! This is just so exciting to be getting seeds, I just can't tell you...... and a fun surprise!! You will be hearing from me again when they arrive

Thanks so much Lorraine and the rest of you who donated! I got the pretty little seed packets today. Can't wait to plant them in the soil and see what pops up! I really appreciate your efforts. This is so much fun!

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Steph -- glad to hear you are happy with your assortment.

Next year, when you have more seeds than you know what to do with... you too will be donating.

Lorraine is doing a great thing!!

Terese

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, time to shine that halo again. Being good is hard!! lol

This has been so much fun!! It also gives me something fun to do. Since I'm here by myself, I need something to keep me busy. LOL
My daughter lives in front of me and my 3 little grandsons are over a lot during the day, but at night , it's just me and the seeds. LOL
Now that's pitiful!

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Oh Lorraine,
Be glad you have some time to yourself. I didn't think I would ever have time to myself but have it now and is enjoyable. LOL

North, TX

Just got my seed packet!! Many thanks to you Lorraine and all the others whose seeds I will soon be planting!! What a wonderful package and it shows how much effort is put into all of the collecting by everyone!!

One seed pack is labeled "Perr mix" which I am assuming are the perennial sunflower mix that you mentioned Lorraine? I could just find out what comes up when I plant them. LOL :)

My sincere thanks to you all.

North, TX

It's me again Lorraine...I am still in awe of what you sent!! You really did make my day and I just want to say that it is so very nice how you put your special effort in sending just what I like ! Thank you - I'm still smiling...

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Smiles are good!!!! I'm trying to remember which perennial seeds I sent, but I think that is just all kinds of perennials, unless thehy look like sunflowers. I thought I sent both.!!! Hope I didn't mess up. I'm so glad you are happy with them.! ^_^

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

I got my seeds last Saturday and was busy with holiday activities and forgot to post. Thanks for all the wonderful goodies - many I don't know exactly what they are but it will be exciting to see all the beautiful blooms come summer. This will be my first attempt at seed sewing - hopefully at least part of them will live so that I can have some seeds to share next Fall as well.

Thanks to Lorraine for all her hard work and dedication organizing this, and thanks to everyone who so graciously contributed to her efforts by supplying seeds. I am thinking after this wonderful package I am going to be totally overwhelmed when my piggy swap seeds arrive. I don't know if I will ever figure out what to do with them all - or WHAT I have if they do grow!! LOL But it will be fun trying to learn.

Thanks again everyone..... and Lorraine, seems to me that halo shines just fine....THANKS so much for your help!!
Genna

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Genna -- the seed packs should have either a common name or a scientific name on them. You can look that up, then - within Daves, click that you have seeds and add to your journal [if you are venturing in there ... something i've just started to do... i mean, click the "add to my journal"].

and you can even reference it to the spreadsheet -- you did get that - right?

but yes... after the Piggy seeds arrive... you will be BUSY trying to figure out what everything is.

Terese

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Yeah, I know I can look them all up - just with all the cooking, cleaning, etc getting ready for family, I haven't had a chance. I haven't downloaded the spreadsheet yet - need to remember to do that - and I haven't ventured in the journal. Maybe eventually. Just never having dealt with seeds before, I can see how it can quickly become a storage and organization issue....(not my strong suit ...LOL) but I am trying to keep these situated as they arrive so they don't take over !! ^_^

Genna

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

>>I haven't had a chance

that is what the long winter [though yours is shorter than mine] is for... that lil break you get after the holidays.

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

LOL - my kids don't take a break!! ^_^ I go from football, to basketball, to track, etc - and that is only athletic activities, then you add booster club meetings, fund raisers, church activities, WORK (what pays for all the other "hobbies") and heaven forbid - cooking and cleaning ....it doesn't leave a lot of time! Then of course, in the evenings, I have to fight kids off the computer if we are at home!!! ^_^ But, I make them give me some time to try to organize my stuff.....

Genna

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Spreadsheet????????? In our journal??????????? I think I missed something there????????????

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

mjs -- the spreadsheet was something i had tweaked to fit my needs. [its not in the Journal] I use it for sowing seeds, mostly winter sowing and for keeping track of my seeds. I brought it up in one of our seed swapping threads.

I have 2.5yrs of data in there.
here is the post, if you are interested

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the link!. I'm gonna get over there. I haven't been able to figure the journal out yet. Mainly cause I have the attention span of a 3 year old.

Mj, got your seeds today and am getting your envy ready to go back.
Thank you so much for the seeds! Do you know if the cypress seeds are pink or white?

Jenna, you'll be surprised at what all will come up. And the most important thing to remember. When you plant them, if you change your mind about where they are, they make shovels for that. lol (Well, small shovels) They can be moved, and usually with no ill effects. I doubt anyone here leaves everything in the same place. I have one poor elephant ear that has had 4 homes in the last couple years, and just keeps getting bigger.

Also if they don't seem to do well where they are, they'll probably do well somewhere else. !!

Ok, gonna go to your spreadsheet link now!!

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Lorraine,
Hummingbird/Cypress vine are Very dark pink/almost red.
ok on the spreadsheet, there's so much on this site...and I keep finding more...Thanks!!!
