Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

This was the forth consecutive day a Northern Hawk Owl hunted voles from the back fence, at Anchorage International Airport. I'll post a few of the better pictures, in the Hawk Owl thread, as I sort through the 79 shots from this afternoon.

awww. nanny, cute.

It looks like the Ruby-crowned Kinglets are definantly moving south. I found some here. They sure are hard to photograph. They are never still and like to hide or place themselves between me and the light.

Love your shots of the owl and aircraft, Gary.

Hel, that's an impressive Brush Turkey. People will be really keen to see the birds you have on the east coast.

Great shots with the autumn colours in the background, Nanny. Good capture of the Song Sparrow singing.

Fantastic series of shots, GP. The Painted Buntings have colours similar to the Rainbow Lorikeets.

I was at the Ospreys nest this afternoon and saw a few Rainbow Bee Eaters. They were quite distant so I've had to crop.

Man those Bee Eaters are purdy!

Hel you must share your birds with us!!

PERTH, Australia

Thanks Nanny, they sure are. I desperate to get some close shots of them.

I hear ya, f_chisolm, about the RC Kinglet. I had been stalking that one for quite a while and I guess it figured it had better sit still and let me take the picture or I'd never go away!

Hummer around this morning. I'll post more pics in the Hummingbird and Butterfly forum.

Frank, my experience with Kinglets is that if you don't have your camera with you (like I didn't yesterday), they will land as close as four feet away from you and sit still for long periods of time watching you as cute as can be. If you have your camera, forget it! That's a great photo!

GP, love the hummer! I saw some tiny bird this morning. I thought it was a butterfly at first, but it was too fast. It flew straight up and straight up again and I couldn't get the binoculars on it to see what it was. I was so hoping it was a hummer.

Margaret -- WOW! Those bee eaters are sooooo beautiful!

Melbourne, FL

Sounds like a hummer, Elphaba. Mine seems to drop out of the sky and disappears just as fast.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

I've got one mean hummer that is keeping 14 others away from his feeder so the second feeder is always full of birds.

The House Finches are getting older and still not afraid of me when I walk by the feeder.

Gardenpom, I don't think I'd ever get tired of seeing that Painted Bunting at my feeder. Gosh, they sure are pretty. Great pictures of the Baltimore too. We just get the Hooded and the Bullocks.

C.Birdlady, love that fall picture with the beautiful Cardinal!
