Once you are successful as you were with strep leaves, you will be hooked! I can hardly stand not to take all the leaves from my streps and plant them!
I am spraying again tonight with Avid.........because I found my last african violets didn't look good........tight centers so I am like you........I panicked and sprayed last Saturday night and will tonight also. I threw all my african violets in the trash just in case.............The streps and other plants don't seem affected............I think I got it right at first......actually Goldleaf caught it for me. I sent her a plant and she thought it was looking a little 'funny' so I hit it!
November Blooms
Ok so what makes the centers tight so I can know this ahead of time??? I have all my things together now so if and when I ever get bugs again I will be ready...LOL I still have to put down a few Kohleria rhizomes and Jan sent me a strep leaves so I have them now down also...
Does anyone know if you can buy like trays and such at an AV show?
Hugs,
Susan
No, Susan , I don't think you can buy them at shows.......Look on line for 2010 or 1020 black trays.....................they will also have domes...........let me try and find it for you.........
I need to know what you all mean by using C.matting on the bottom of the trays? do you wet this then put a wick into the pot and it sucks up like the wick on a grid?
Thanks
Susan

Susan..............they have the black trays and the smaller domes but they have the 6" domes for 5.95...........wish I had ordered from them.........I paid more........I love the tall domes............
If you are using capilllary matting it has nothing to do with grids.......I used them for small plants and put a string like I am going to wick so the capillary matting provides a lot of humidity..........................but you don't need a grid like you are wick watering...........you are wick water but you are doing it on a capillary matting..........
I usually use these for small plants (babies of streps, avs, etc.) and dome them until they are ready for the world...............somtimes I just take the dome off and leave them on the capillary matting..................do I have you confused?????
Kinda, LOL I have heard you say you can get it in a blanket I believe and I don't know what kind of blanket Duh me right..LOL
Thanks for the URL.... going looking now...

Susan
You can use polyester felt for capillary matting-- I bought some at Walmart a couple weeks ago-- it was 3.69 a yard(I think that's what I paid) for 56" wide.
Thank you both... It looks like felt.. I will look for it the next time I get to Wally world... I don't get there that often as I really don't like to shop there...

Susan
YOu can buy any old acrylic blanket anywhere for less than 20.00 and have enough to last a life time.............wherever you shop you should be able to buy it by the yard or buy a blanket........
I have another question on using the matting. Do you use a different mix for them. The same mix you would use for wicked plants? Do you put extra perlite in the bottom of pot too? This way seems to be easier that wicking the pots and setting them on containers of water. Especially if there are lots of babies. I'm asking now because I have strep seeds that will soon be real babies. They still have seed leaves, but soon will have to go into another pot. There must be 20 or more in a cream cheese container. LOL. I didn't realize that seeds were so light and sowed too many.
How about a Part 2? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/921768/
