Hey, AuntB.. that last one got so long I am sure you missed my questions so here they are again:

(I just copied and pasted)

OK, AuntB.. step by step.. how did you start those cuttings.. did you bubbler them first in water then into the moss or just moss.. did you soak the moss to get it wet or just put it in the cups and pour water in to moisten it.. do you spray water to wet or pour water to moisten.. ??? questions, questions, questions.. I want to know what you are doing to get those wonderful brug cuttings growing.. I have cuttings coming and lots of that moss sitting here in packages.. flourescent lights set up I'm ready and waiting for your leadership here! ... start talking! LOL

you have such wonderful roots showing.. I am sure we all want to know.. I KNOW I SURE DO!

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

Hey Kim How about those Phillies!!!! WhoooHooo World Series Champs..
Way To Go PHILLIES...

Again another morning no coffee or yummies...

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Good morning glories! Coffee's going! How about donuts today? Don't know why I'm getting up so early these days but it's starting to feel good, LOL! Never thought I'd say that....

Well, not much to tell here for the day. I still feel bad but am going to keep praying...I will not let this stuff get bad like I do most every year before I go to the Dr. I'm not down sick yet, just feel it trying, you know how that is. I'm so glad I am through with everything outside for the winter.

Tammie I explained it on one thread and showed pictures of the leafing cuttings and roots, but I don't think you were here then. Bonnie and I do the exact same thing. We both bubble our cuttings until we see some form of nubbies, cause we just like to see them first, LOL! Pour the moss out into a sink and fill with warm water. Let soak about 5 minutes. Take a small handful and squeeze the water out. Place in the bottom of the cup. You do not need to poke holes in the cup. Put the cutting down into the cup, squeeze out more moss, and place firmly around the cutting, packing lightly, until moss is about 3/4 of the way up the cup and the cutting will stand up on it's own.

Only water when moss is completely starting to dry out. Pour a little water in the cup (I use 1/4 tsp. Super Thrive in my water). Tip cup over the pour out any unabsorbed, remaining water. I sit mine in a sunny kitchen window to get them started but now they are in the greenhouse under 12 hours of shoplights per day. I mist them once a day with the Recipe, and have since I potted them. You should be seeing leaves forming within 2 weeks. If they are leafing, they are rooting. If you have one that goes 3-4 weeks with no leaves, it is likely not going to root. You can pull on the cutting very gently after a couple of weeks. If it gives any resistance, it's rooting. If it slides right out it's not. HTH, Love Karen

I thought ya'll might get a kick out of these dogs in costume:

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Aw Kim, Good morning! Hope your feeling better today honey bunches!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Morning H & H's! Thanks for the coffee Karen. Hope everybody is feeling better.

Been up for awhile streching and yawning and finally decided the smell of coffee and it being hot with me being cold was too much to ignore any longer so am up and about and wondering what I am goign to manage to get done today.

I started reading a book yesterday and am about halfway through and it is do I want to finish readign it or play outside. I really need to get some work done outside. We're gonna have a couple of warm days so I better make the best of them while I can. Need to see if I can try and get the underpining back up aroudn the trailer. Too many snakes around here, so I take it off during the summer.

Ever since the one trailer I live din had a rattler come up through the bathroom pipe, I keep evrythign in the open during the warm months. That was a nightmare of a time. A woman can run with her pants down around the ankles I found out.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh my gosh Ella that's scary! I'd be taking the underpinning off too!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

OMG Starlight! When I lived in Texas I had one curled up by the Sunday morning newspaper. I just shut the door. My XH asked how come I didn't get the paper, told him I just lost interest. So he opens the door and then shuts it, ask him why he didn't get it and he said he decided he didn't need to read that much doom and gloom!

Bonnie, I honked when I went by twice yesterday did you hear me? What an insane trip! Talk about a waste of a beautiful day. Now Friday will be lost to going to Oklahoma for a few hours.....and it is suppose to be beautiful! Hope the weather stays good on Monday, might just take that day off.

I read the posts last night but was just too tired to participate....you hotties are something else. Blooms, plants, snow, food and lots of sweetie 4 legged babies and cutie babies.

Remember someone posted about a brug from Parks, what one did you get from Parks? I got 3 or 4 from them and they have bloomed and been wonderful.

I saw where someone talked about moisture in their gh I have bad moisture problem in my garden room. I am looking for a dehumidifier. Guess we insulated it way too well! Thunderstorms are starting to form..LOL

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

S~n~a~k~e~s Scare me,
We have a Hot Tub on the Deck. One morning I went out to crawl in and look who was sunning on the window ledge not a foot away. I don't know who left first, me or the snake. LOL

Thanks for the cutting starting directions. I have never done it that way. Sounds like a good way to give them a good start.

I think I am getting that cold or whatever that is going around. Every time I have the Flu shot I get sick. LOL

Be sure to open the picture. LOL

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Morning H&H’s
Thanks for the coffee Karen and I take a donut, haven’t had one in a while and it sounds yummy. I’m moving pretty good this morning; the back is getting accustomed to being in line.

At Umn, Karen maybe you miss the new rule, no more sick Hotties. That means get yourself to the Dr and get the meds so it will not get too bad. Honestly I hope you are not coming down with the crud. It is very common this time of year and always lasts a long time. So get some rest, drink lots of fluid and go and get those wonderful antibiotics. Do not wait it out, it will only get worst, and don’t ask me how I know so much about it. This is another “do as I say thing” I’m right there with you every fall.

Debra, what a fantastic haul you came home with, so glad you and Bonnie had a wonderful time.

Bonnie you look so cute standing in your tropical paradise; you should be so proud the plants look so happy. That is a wonderful picture of Mel, so pretty and she does look like her Mom.

Betty, love the costume on Doodle, I’m sure she was not too happy about it. I’m amazed you were able to get her to pose for the camera. The most my two will put up with is a Halloween hanky around there necks.

Beck, sorry to hear that Momma is not doing well, tell those ### nurses that it is their job to make sure she is drinking enough. Do not let them put it back on you, that is what you are paying them for. It’s wonderful to hear that your GH is becoming a reality, keep pushing to get it as big as you can, you’ll acquire loads of new plants for next season.

Clemen, your apartment by the water looks so nice with all your babies tucked away for the winter. The pots are beautiful but I am sure they are heavy. Glad you could fit Mr. Nana in there, he looks so tall.

Mary, good luck with the roots, it’s almost time to check. I’m sure I’ll hear you all the way up here in RI. Tell that wonderful DH he should be thankful that it is plants you are addicted to. BTW, you will have lot more burgs by next summer, they just seem to multiply.

Pegi, you don’t want my cooler weather, we had a really good frost here last night. What wasn’t black and slimey yesterday will be today. I’d love to have some of the warm while I am finishing the cleaning up.

I’ve been working on this post for 2 hours so I will post it now and I’m sure I will be several post behind again. Sleeping until 7:30 is so unlike me.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Wow, I missed the snakes, but you hottie can keep those rattlers there; the most I have are garden snakes and a few water moccasins.

Joyce, I got some burg from Parks last spring/summer. I bought them when they were buy one get two free. I got 3 Ecuador Pinks, and 3 Cassies Curls, the CC’s were sent as a sub, I don’t remember what I ordered. When I got them they were in little 4” pots and very small but they grew huge and all the EP’s bloomed so they were all very good buys. I think someone else posted that they ordered from there too.

Morning Kim, and Linda Kay

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Morning H&H's!!

Well... I already got my 1 cup of coffee for the day, but I might take one of those donuts when I get my eyes good and open!!
Mary... from # 31..... I would be getting itchy too to see lil roots running around..lol... did you put it in a see thru cup?? Like Bonnies pic back up there?? That would be ideal! I still prefer the easy way.. just plunk them in some water/peroxide.. that way I see everything, cause I even like to take them out and inspect them..lol
Tammie... wow.. are you getting up?? OR haven't gone to bed yet??...LOL
Ella... OH MY.. I'd have to move... me and snakes don't get along... any kind of snake.. or those llil blue striped lizards..lol.. they are just as bad!!
Betty.... I don't know snakes..lol.. but if that one isn't poisonous... I guarantee.. IF my DH could catch it.. he WOULD!!!... and be staring face to face with it about now!!!.... ewww... Remember he's a TN boy..lol .. sorry to hear you aren't feeling well!
Phyllis... welll..... since you are a consistent early bird riser.. looks like you'll have to be the baker and coffee maker for tomorrow morn...hehehehe
Joyce.. that is TOO funny about the snake..lol.. there has to be more to the story... BUT TG I have NEVER seen a snake in the house.. EVER... I would die!! You are going to catch it from Bonnie..lol... you should have stopped!!
Karen.. ok.. you keep talking about going to see the DR.. Before it gets too bad... when do you think it's "getting" too bad?? hmmm missy??..lol... better get an appt!!!!!!!!
Linda Kay.. hope your day is wonderful too!

KIM... KIM...!!!! YAY.. you sound like your old self!! Good thing too... cause I was about to give you a thrashing with my wet noodles!..hehe...just don't make us worry that long again!!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Mornin Donna... you go girl.. lets hound Karen till she see the DR.!!... Hey I am glad to see you sleep in.. no more stress for you sweet lady.. you can do what you want when you want!!

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Norning hotties and handsomes I hope you all have a good day!!!!!!!!!

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

As Bonnie once told me every brug has it own individual way...
As long as the cuttings don't get mushy i'd leave them till they decide to root/grow
I've had one root in 3 days in with my bamboo plant...and then after 3 weeks 1 didn't show signs of rooting at all
So I stuck it in a pot of dirt..bingo it rooted..Now one has it's whole top part dried out and crinkly but from the bottom part it's growing leaves with no roots...go figure..but it's growing...So you need to play with them and see what they want...as long as they stay firm you still have a chance
I've noticed that most brug cuttings that go bad either turn to mush or get hollow inside..
But that's only a newbies observation...

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I'm givin up over here.. thought the new thread started TODAY! Dah!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Ms.. Bonnie.. this IS the new thread... don't go confusing me..now... doesn't take much you know..lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I had one of my first cuttings get a little mushy while it was in the water, and I just cut the mushy part off. It then rooted with in 3 days. I figured it would not hurt to try it.

Don't forget to change your clocks back this week-end.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Hey, Bonnie did you say Louise Lavender4ever has a dead computer or something?

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

I've invited a good friend over to join us...
Sis_E aka Cissy....so if she pops in give her big welcome....
She also has a cute 4 legged son...and she's also just got 2 brugs from another dger...
So she already has alot in common with us hotties...

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Yes, Hottie's Louise is off the computer... and here goes my effort at trying to catch up..
Tammie... I soaked the Moss in water first, drained, then soaked in H202 and Vit.B1.. drained again..(saved the H202/VitB1 water for watering something else) then squeezed the excess out before I filled the cup.., then I stuck the cutting in and kind of tamped the moss down to about 3/4 cup full when I was finished tamping.. maybe added a tad more here and there.. they sat on my livingroom carpet in front of south doors for a week (I was busy) - then I got out the heat mat and moved them to the basement where they've been ever since under lights.. I've rewetted the moss a couple of times and spray w/ recipe maybe every other day. I'm really pleased.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I posted this on 31 like a silly Hottie...So I copied and pasted here. I am feeling better today. I have been doing too much and for too long.

I have more donuts Karen. I got assorted so everyone could pick what they like. May I have some coffee? I just use milk in mine.

I have switched to Vonage for my phone. I will let you all know how it goes. So far so good. I am told I sound clearer even.

I had one lone bloom on my NOID white brug I have had for 17 yrs. I had 4 in the ground and lost 2 and the others don't grow. They are 3 and 4 ft. The 3ft has been in the ground 5 yrs. Not sure maybe it is because I want them so bad. I mixed compost, cow manure from Lowe's, some orchid moss to help hold the water and even gave them some of those water crystals. I put alfalfa pellets and osmocote in the hole and mixed it up. I let it set a couple days and planted. I have no idea what is wrong. I gave them some tree stakes about a month ago and they look better. I mulched them really good too. If the few I got this year don't work I will call it quits. I can't stand to kill them.

I still have a lot to clean from Ike. I got my electric chainsaw sharpened. I will look like a really Cool Hottie using it out there hehe.(a regular Mrs Paul Bunyun) hehe

I did go around and get wood for the fireplace. I ended up with 4 truck loads. I got ash, oak, and some sweet gum. I did end up with some crepe myrtle. Not sure if it is hard wood but not much to care and it all has to dry. I got pieces I could pick up and a few a little heavier. I have some smaller long ones I need to cut up. Maybe tonight. I have it all but one pile in the garage. Out of sight out of mind.
My 2 male neighbors made fun of me. They said everyone is carrying out and you are carrying it in. I said yes but when you are paying for firewood for the fireplace I won't be. My one neighbors mouth dropped open like why did he not think of that. hehe Well I should have said I am a Huge TM Hottie that is why me so smart. hehe. It is the trouble maker in me that does things backwards and they end up not to bad. You can bet the price of fire wood won't drop. I should have enough for 2 or 3 yrs. I usually don't burn it just for me so because it is just me It will last a lot longer. lol

I guess I better get started around here, Today is the curse word day. Yuck! Then back outside.

I am having a huge problem with my dog my son left going on the carpet. Now princess poops on it too. I need to clean it really bad. I tell you the jobs add up and they are always huge ones. I put them out and they may be out and hour after they eat but save it for in here. Geeeeeessssshhhhh!! Somehow I think they are training me and not me them. He needs nuetered when I get some money. Maybe that will help some.
I bought wee wee pads against my better judgement (I think it is like saying ok do it in the house) but it beats them doing on the carpet. And I bought some stuff to keep them away from where they usually go (a spray) did either work...NO. They are afraid of the pad and found a spot I missed spraying I guess. I really think they are smarter than me.

Have a great day hotties. I hope to be back regular soon. Pray for me to hold out and get this all done. Not sure I can fix the hoop house myself. I hope so I have a place to over winter my plants. Ike caved in half of the top.

See yaaaas

bye again

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Oh, I see ya'll are giving me a chance to TRY to catch up! Sis_E! Come on in here, we won't bite.. too hard ;) So, ya really didn't need my blow by on rooting.. Karen and I do it pretty much the same way.. the ones I got from Dollie and Mike went right into the moss.. but Phyllis is right, each one is like a person.. individual wants and needs.... alright... snakes are okay if they are going the other way and don't stay in my yard.. one thing a man is good for.. killing snakes and spiders ;) Thx Linda Kay on the clock reminder... Oh, got my Halloween candy... just in case I have little goblins tomorrow... (snickers, dark choc batman reese's and kit kats.. ;) just in case DD and I have to eat it..

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Good afternoon everyone! I so wished I did not have to work!! Computer problems everywhere. Karen, no more sweets for you till you get to the doctor. Also, try Mucinex. It's not pleasant but it will clear you out. (Hugs!) Star and Betty, please keep those snakes in your states. We occasionally get one here and I do not like them at all. That is about my one and only phobia. Scared to death of them. I can handle a little garden snake barely, but anything else and I'm out of the yard.

Okay we've gone from freeze to beautiful weather outside. Keith was so glad to be home but could not believe I had cut the brugs, especially the ones with buds. I told him I was hoping they would go ahead and bloom but no guarantee. I get tickled at him but give me another year and I'm going to have a brugman here. He's just too interested. LOL!! He's always liked my flowers, but these are the only ones he checks on daily.

Okay, I may have missed the answer, so I'm going to ask again...my memory is shot right now. Is there a difference really between the spaghum moss and the orchid moss?? Can anyone compare them and see? So, far I've been unable to find the orchid, just an empty shelf with its sticker on it. I guess a lot of people are starting brugs! :))

Got to get outside and today is errand day again. I try to get everything done during the week so I don't have to fight the crowds on weekends. Also got to the candy stocked up for tomorrow night! TTYL, Peg

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Prayin for ya Sandy! Get er done.. or what you CAN get done. That is all you can do.. the rest will have to wait. It's very pleasant outside here today.. 73 at lunchtime.. sunny!
