MGJapan 2008 Parade

Some of the Kyushu seeds makes unusual showy flowers like the one pictured here. Looks like an orchid but it's a rare morning glory.

This is what's growing this winter. The seeds are mostly from Japanese morning glory festival seeds collected last year. One that I'm watching with great anticipation is a cactus morning glory.

until next time.

Thank you Dee for sharing your enjoyment of growing Japanese Morning Glories. I will be back for next time. I don`t have as much time to post since I`m teaching my son and have to help my husband with things in the business and home but what time I do have here is enjoyed with so many pictures and beautiful colors. Thank you again.

Karen

Houston, TX

Thanks Karen,

It's the best way to find out first hand by growing and researching on ones own. I know the true morning glory lovers here also appreciate my sharing but I too am very busy with other things.

Oh and thanks for the d-mails from you and a few others.

Dee

I have this thread on my watch threads, so I'm happy to see more flowers. I don't visit the MG forum that often anymore either, too much life to live, I guess. But I'm getting excited thinking about growing next year. I'm not too sure what I'll be growing, maybe sticking to a couple of the same varieties will make it easier for me to control the dreaded whitefly!

thanks Dee for sharing and hope your Thanksgiving was great.

Antoinette

Houston, TX

Thanks Antoinette,

Yeah, I have a few new cultivars that I've recently purchased and currently growing a few inside. I'm also growing one that you and Karen sent me last year.

I've been working online tonight and is about to sign off and go to bed.

So until next time.

More beautiful flowers Dee. I especially like the coppery brown split petal bloom in your post of Nov 18. How would you describe that color?

Jackie

Houston, TX

Thanks Jackie,

Yes the flower in the post you're refering to is a burgundy like color
and I purchased it as crystal asagao. The flowers looked like the crisscrossed ribbon type and I haven't seen this one offered by anyone outside of Japan.

Hi Guys and thanks for the d-mails. WOW! If you didn't include your mailing addres I can't send you any seeds.

Also I'm very busy this time of year and can't reply to all of you therefore only those who want seeds only need to apply.

Gourd, the picture is not very good but it's one of the Fuji Shibori seeds you sent me last year. Gardener2005 I'll show you what your Sazanami cross looks like in a few days when it blooms.

Dee,

I got 4 different looks from the hand tied F2 seeds of the original blue blizzard sazanami vine seeds purchased from ebay. I got solid blue white tube, blue blizzard white tube, lavender white tube and lavender blizzard white tube all large type flowers. Some of the open pollinated sazanami(some of which you recieved) showed some interesting darker coloring which had some subtle shadings to it and quite nice too. I may continue and try to select for more of the blue blizzard and see if consistent seeds are possible.

I`d love to see the picture. Thanks for the generous seed offer. :)

Gourd, I've got to say it's one of the most beautiful flowers to adore. I also got a few of those seeds from a Japanese friend the other day.
Can't wait for next spring to see them all growing outside.

Karen you sent me hand tied and open pollinated seeds from your original blue blizzard sazanami vine from 2007. Yours and Gourds were seeds that I didn't have at the time and I'm just getting around to growing them. I still have a lot of others that I will be growing for the first time this coming spring. The plant is doing fine in a large window that gets good sun light. It should bloom in a few days and by then I should have a new camera. I broke my other camera while in USA.

talk to you guys later.

Hi Dany,
I can't see the photo with the copyright on there, does that one there have a white streak? Do you have a link for the original photo and was there a name on it. It could be one of the shibori that throws out solids and sometimes breaks up the colors... I really can't see the leaves that well either from the photo as it won't enlarge. Hopefully someone can help here.

Antoinette I try to find where I pickup the picture but at the moment no result !

What I could say is that last year , end of november Dee maked a distribution of seeds just coming from Japan .Someone from DG Morning Glories lover has got those seeds and grow them in 2008 , I just want to see pics and eventuality make a trade .
Or the seeds are evaporated !

The post pic is not good , perhaps Dee has the original picture in his computer !
It seems to be a " broken colour gene cultivar "
I'm not a specialist
I order a thead on the fertility of the JMG

It is probably around this forum somewhere. Don't feel bad, I'm not a specialist either, just learning also. Someone may have seen it or have some seeds for this one. I didn't have much in 2008, so I know it wasn't me.

Me too. I`m learning and I have grown the shibori ipomoea nil I purchased from ebay that looks like pie slices in the corolla and even the leaves were a divided light and dark color. I also found some of these with the coolest leaves in gift seeds from you Dee.

My problem is I can`t share the seeds from any of the several diferent ipomoea nil shibori flower and shibori leaf I grew from different sources because the test grow showed All solid flowers with only part of them showing the divided color leaf. One flower had one tiny speck of white so I got seeds from that vine to try again. i kept all the seeds from the vines that were disappointing as well just to see. That one will need more experimentation and puzzling before I get seeds that produce the desired vine. It would be a disappointment based on my test grow to share these. Maybe, the seeds I gathered off the supposedly plain plants will yield the fancy ones? Maybe not? Time will tell. When you know nothing then you have to start somewhere and keep trying.

When I grew the seeds I recieved in trades and from ebay purchases of shibori ipomoea nil the first generation appeared shibori just like the picture. The seeds were true as promised.

It was when I gathered seeds from the F1 vine and did a test grow of seeds I planned to share did I find they were solid purple in the F2. I was glad I did this and chose to keep them until I did more growing to find out what was going on because if I had simply plucked and traded it would have disappointed people.

Also,I suspect some people are mistaking a type of blizzard for the distinctive shibori divided color corolla in the ipomoea nil but I don`t want to go into more OT on Dee`s thread.

Next year, I`ll grow more and find out how to produce trade seeds of this variety. I`m certainly no expert but keeping to myself taking my time to learn and get it right before I make a trade list.

Just reactivated my account. I finally move back to USA after living in Japan for 20 years. Recently some members had been emailing me about obtaining morning glory seeds from me. I finally found the boxes that the seeds were stored in and will make them available ASAP. I'm entering a new chapter in my life therefore all the negative stuff is behind me. I'm not a hater but a motivator and still have all the seeds available in Japan and those I've obtain from Kyushu. Still have a few rare ones that's not available outside of Japan. Glad to be back home.
