It's not what you think.

Great blooms Dee. Love all the different Joyce Cobbs, your's, Becky's
and Dany's.
I love these pictures......................inspires me to really get the seeds started in the spring of next year! I can't wait for spring to come.
wow i like the bat wing leaf
they all are so beautiful.
envious
Very nice flowers.. Dee. Are you going to those neat MG festivals this coming year.
Becky those Joyce Cobb flowers and color are my favorites. I grew some in 2004 and 2005 just like yours, then they disappeared and I got the dark ones, try to keep those seeds separate if you haven't already done so. I don't know how that happened to mine, unless the plant produces both colors. I prefer the light ones though.
Hi Antoinette! Nice to see you posting on the MG forum! :-)
All of my blooms on that single vine were the light blue. I collected lots of seeds from that vine! :-) I haven't grown it out since, so I don't know what the seeds will produce, but I really liked that color of blooms!
Thank you Gourd. About MG festivals, yeah I gess I'll go and check out a few. Been there and done that so you know how that is. They're held all over Japan during early summer and done in typical Japanese fashion. Yes you can read about them on the web or read a book but it's nothing like being there in person and talking to the vendors.
JMG seeds are not hard to obtain from Japan and there are many ways to get them even from K. University. Occasionally as you know I've made some kyushu seeds available here on dave's.
This picture represent some JMG seeds that's currently being offered in Japan and very cheep too. If you want some samples let me know.

Well, Dee, when did you go back? Yes, you must go to Kyushu and get some more this coming year.. When I saw your photos last year, I tried to put my plants in layers this year and it worked for a while, then all of my plants died from whitefly attacks.. This coming year will hopefully be better. I am almost sure it was because I did not use Messenger, I believe that made them stronger the year before and more disease resistant.
Are you and your family growing mgs this coming year?
Becky, will you save me a couple of your Joyce Cobb seeds Please. I am going to try out an expierment with JC seeds from different people and see what I get, hopefully I can separate the lighter seeds for a grow out the following year .. maybe I shouldn't plan so far ahead.
Love all those blooms and info.. what does layering mean? I have seen that term before on DG.. curious.. Debra
Debra,
it was in a photo that showed how the plants are displayed in Japan and probably other places too for all I know. What I did is try to copy that, I used some long wooden 2" x 12' boards on cinder blocks and made something that looked like bleachers in steps, then put all my pots on them, I was able to get 50 five gallon pots per bleacher. It saves a lot of space as I grow lots of MGs sometimes.. when I get a wild hair. The photo is in one of the older threads, maybe Dee still has a photo of the festivals where it shows the displays. Actually, you can see some of the display tables on Dr. Yoneda's site.
edited to show 2" not 2' BIG DIFFERENCE

Been back since early summer and was stateside for 8 months. My mother passed April 19, 2008 and that's what kept me there for so long.
Hey it's all about trying and learning some new things. I've learned a lot from my 2007 JMG project and you mention layering which is good in itself if you're having growing space issues. Plus it's a nice way to display your growing plants.

It was easy to manage these plants untill they started growing.
I have this plant and a few others growing inside and I'll post the pictures here in a few days.
Dee
Oh wow! thanks Dee for that link.. I am so excited , my MGs that I planted from Becky are going to town! also, some seed pods must ahve dropeed from oe of the lobata vines, because i have baby lobata plants.. sheesh!
I have got to get some boards and cinder blocks as I am overwhelmed by all the pots sitting around..
Dee, I'm really sorry to hear about your Mother. Those are very trying times and I'm sure you went thru a rough time. Unfortunately we have to keep on keeping on.
Thanks for posting that photo with the seedlings, it will help everyone here.
joeswife, yes it gets overwhelming when they are all over the place, you will like having them all in one area, but they do grow fast and have to be contained in a spiral method of sorts, I use the bamboo sticks and wire coat hangers to make mine stay put and have to keep after them every few days and sometimes daily so they don't wind onto each other if you want to separate the seeds, if not then you can let them climb all over each other.
A.
