Love that "racing" Eagles shot, Linth!
Daily Pics No. 148
Thanks, everyone ........
Margaret, I took these photos yesterday. Actually, I was about ready to go home, at noon, when activity started to pick up. Despite being a beautiful day, harsh shadows and shade don't help. All of my close-up photos were in a wooded area and shooting toward the sun. These photos were taken at the Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River in Maryland. They generate hydroelectric power primarily for the Philadelphia area. When they turn the power generators on, the eagles become increasingly active. It is my understanding that it stuns some of the fish and they become easy picking for the eagles. They don't have to work as hard for their dinner. What you see in the above photos is the base of the dam.
This is one of the closer photos I was able to take. But, as you can see, I had to shoot toward the sun.
Beautiful shots, Dave. I might stay near home, too, if I had beauties like that to photograph all of the time. This time of the year my concentration turns more toward the Bald Eagles and the migratory waterfowl. You do have to visit Conowingo Dam when you have a chance. Best time is November and December. Parking is great. Bathroom facilities are available. All you need is "food". Let me assure you, you will not find it secluded. There are always more photographers than Bald Eagles.
Here's a shot of the dam from downstream.
So many beautiful pictures. I love them all. Y'all have been busy.
Great shots everyone! Linth that looks like a wonderful place!
It is a "perfect" spot for those interested in seeing or photographing Bald Eagles. It was a little slow on Sunday but things should pick up. Here is an in-flight photo I shot, at 700mm. I've been having difficulty locking in the focus of a moving subject, at a long distance, and at 700mm. I'll just have to keep practicing.
