Daily Pics No. 148

Stafford County, VA

Nice shot, Pelle. I watchfor the red on the house finches as well.

Here is the reddest one I have seen so far.

Wow,I don't think I've ever seen one that red!

PERTH, Australia

What wonderful birds, everyone.

GP, the Osprey did react, but more with annoyance rather than aggression and the Willie Wagtail eventually won and the Osprey flew off.

Wallaby, the bird is a Rainbow Lorikeet and yes it was in a nest hollow.

It was blowing a gale yesterday (sligh exaggeration, but it was windy). This is a shot of twin Red Wattlebird babies about to be fed. They were in a tree next to where I park to go to the Ospreys nest.

Beautiful Chickadee pic Pelle. Margaret, always amazing when a small bird will take on such a large one.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Frank those are 2 of the ones I haven't seen here yet, And is on my wish list to see. But the bluebird must be gone by now.Might get to see them next summer.
Lovely series Rose and Dave
wallaby still waiting for the nuthatch to come, only seen him once, he came for a drink earlier this season. I'm hopeful I'll see him again. It a cute little bird, their size surprised me, I thought they were bigger.
Quite a brave Wattlebird Margaret, he sure doesn't know the phrase " pick on your own size". Love the babies.
Pelle, so much detail in the Chickadee, make a lovely shot.
Mrs-Ed, I've kept a few female Purple Finch for myself. Haven't seen the males for the pass 4 days. So I figure they are heading your way. the Male have more red on their body, then the house finch, and less brown in the wings .
A Goldfinch this afternoon.

If Adels bird is a purple finch, there goes my theory on the non-curved beak for purple finches.

Great shots all! I still haven't seen any Goldfinches or Purple Finches but the White Crowned Sparrows have discovered the meal worms!! Hadn't planned on that!!

I also had my first Junco this morning in the yard...such a pretty bird.

Marlton, NJ

OK the birds must've heard my cries. Today I checked outside and saw lots of sparrows, female cardinal, finches and about 20 doves. But its rainy outside today.

Here is a pic from a few weeks ago when this male Red-bellied Woodpecker flew onto this branch ,spotted me and shrank down in an effort not to be seen.

Pretty shot Dave...if I cranked up my camera to 2000 it wouldn't be my camera!! Seriously..seems like anything above 400 is noisy! Yours looks great!!

Stafford County, VA

Hi Rose

Well, the high ISO/low noise ratio is one of the things Canon touts about the Mark III. You can get acceptable shots with the ISO set as high as 3200. You can set it all the way up to 6400, but then you really see the noise.

But your shots are always very, very nice too, Rose, whatever the ISO.

BTW, did you know I went to high school at a school up on the Lake of the Ozarks, just west of Camdenton? I looked you up on the map and it's not that far from Conway.

Marlton, NJ

That does look like a male Junco Rose. Very nice shots! Yours too Dave!

Klamath River, CA

Lots of American Robins zooming around from tree to tree. This is the only one that stayed still long enough to get a pic and it was a long ways off and in the shadows.
