Tilly, for me the link worked just dandy. anytime, it was fun. Hopefully it wasn't too much of a headache for all that. It will go better! It's a pretty rd. that you live on!
What weird weather we're having #4
Beautiful pictures Tilly and Portland (glad you found your charger)
zhinusmom, I love the cards you've made. I do similar ones, plus I like doing the embroidery ones. Haven't done much this summer since we've been working on the house :-( but I'll get back to it soon. Besides that I knit, crochet, do cross stitch and tat. I get together with a bunch of gals where I live once a week and we just stitch away. Sometimes I do things for local charities and have been making squares for a group in San Diego that's been making afghans for people that got burned out of their houses. Keeps my fingers busy between my own projects^_^
It was overcast all day today. Stayed cool, around 60, sure felt like it was going to rain, but it didn't. Not expected until Friday.
Tilly, your road is beautiful. Looks like a nice place to live. I don't know anything about photography but your photo seems very well composed to me.
It looks like we have a few nice days of sun before the rain begins on Friday. Enjoy!
Sally, sounds like you have a lot in common with mom, though I do more counted stitch needle work than she does.
I have done several of the embroidered cards in the past.....haven't had a lot of time for it lately though. Have done a lot of crochet, am learning to knit, do some clay work, Laura and I do some leatherwork (haven't been doing a lot of that lately either), a little painting and drawing......just dabble a bit in all kinds of arts and crafts.
Tilly what I would give to live down a road like that!!!
Love the pictures Portland1 and Tils. Driving along Hood Canal is beautiful this year also. Went into Bremerton last week and it was a beautiful drive around Gorst looking over to Port Orchard. Love it when we have these great fall colors.
Your driveway is very much aglo and quite pretty Heidi!
Beautiful trees!!
zhinusmom...you sound just like me, lots of interests, no time for any of them right now. LOL
Another sunny day, yeah! Got lots done in the yard today.
Doing better than me Sally! I think that just made a mess out of the yard today under the preface of cleaning it up. :-p
Hi red, Didn't know who was up. guess I have more work to do to figure out picasa. I have all winter and you LOL

Tilly, you're doing great.... I think that once you get this last little kink worked out you're going to be about a pro at going from picasa to picasaweb!
Tilly you're doing better than me. I haven't even attempted it yet!
I still have a problem with that link, when I go to your d-mail and pull it up it works for me or am I missing something?
will try it here, then you all can see it. These are just random pic no subjects in mind. I must be a dummy, need a program 'Picasa for Dummys' LOL

Not know I have Dups?
I will keep working on this, in put needed LOL
but I need to quit for now, have early call in AM, sometimes hate my job LOL. back same time in the morro.
Thanks all
Tills
Hey the link is good now. The duplicate is easy to fix and you do it while you are in picasaweb, not picasa. Anyhow, the hardest part, getting your pics uploaded is done. Changing your albums, in picasaweb, around and deleting the duplicates is much easier.
Cattledogs your trees are amazing - I'm jealous of all who live out in the country. The only wildlife I see are the people walking past my house to go to Hawthorne.
Now THAT is wildlife!!!
I remember fairly well where Hawethorne is, people watching could actually be a somewhat entertaining event! lol
It is entertaining - I live 1 1/2 blocks away from Hawthorne on SE 34th. I sit on my porch for entertainment! lol
I thought it was going to be sunny today but that is not the case as of yet. Looks like rain for the next 4 or 5 days. Time to make soup and read by the fireplace.
Portland - I LOVE what you've done with the house. Lots of hard work to get rid of the evidence of lots of years of hard living. How old is the house? It looks great.
there's sort of two sides of Hawthorne, this is going a not so clear memory of it. But, it seems as though one side is some: very cute houses, cottage style houses, bungalows, etc. that are mostly 50 years at the most recent! The other side of Hawthorne isn't bad, just very busy with traffic and people, lots of little businesses, and not so kept up. At least, that's what I remember of it. I occasionally would take Hawthorne as one of the streets to finally get out of downtown and up to their place in a fairly quiet, wooded, area of Portland. They don't live there anymore, so it has been a while since I've driven it.
Am I sort of close in the way I remember it Portland?

Actually both sides of Hawthorne in this area have really cute old houses. Mine was built in 1905. They vary from small cottages to quite large 4 square style and there are a lot of front porches, which makes the neighborhood very friendly. Sunnyside Environmental Elementary School is down the street so there are a lot of kids around. This is a wooded area with lots of trees. The gardens are similar to English gardens - with some more "controlled" than others. I have not lived here long but the neighbors tell me that the homes on both sides of Hawthorne have been improving for some time because of the popularity of the school. The whole area between Belmont & Division streets has old houses, some kept nicely and a few that are in disrepair. You might remember that Hawthorne is between Belmont & Division. You probably remember the Baghdad Theatre, which is a few blocks away from me. I can walk to everything or ride my bike.
Katie thanks for the complements on the house - if the previous owners had not messed up the 1905 character with odd remodeling it would have been easier to fix! The kitchen had to be gutted and I put in reclaimed Calcutta marble, a farm sink, and an English stove so it is functional with modern conveniences but not a shiny modern look. I have an aversion to upper cabinets so every inch had to be used and even though it is a small room it appears spacious and airy. I love it!
Portland, DH and I have disagreements on cabinets; I'm 5' he's 6'2" he wants everything high and I want what I use regularly to be within my reach without a stool. We compromise, but it's still a pain.
Sounds like a nice house.
Portland - maybe you could start a thread with pictures of the house? It sounds wonderful. I always fancied that I'd end up living in and reclaiming an old turn-of the century house. I see now, realistically, that I probably would not have had the time, money, or energy to do it right.
But I love to see the work of someone who does!!
I'm sure I've been down Hawthorne, but my trips to Portland (other than driving through to Corvallis) have been so rare in the last 30 years, that I don't remember. But you do hear a lot about Sunnyside School. It's great that it's the driver for getting the neighborhood back to its former glory.
Do you have any pictures of the area from the era in which the house was built? It must have looked quite different in 1905.
I agree with Katie.....that has always been a dream of mine, but as stated.....out of my budget and capabilities.....but we can dream and would love to see what you have done!
I've always said that one of my favorite things is to watch other people work. ^_^
Thank you zhinusmom! And the same back to you. We don't get trick or treaters here unless someones GK's come to visit. We're always prepared anyway. Miss that from CA, always had to check out the kids costumes.
Went out to vac up some leaves this morning and just about the time I got everything ready it started to rain. Had to settle for raking off the street later. Rain didn't last long, just enough to get everything wet. I had a stack of boards to move, so I was glad it stayed cool. Finally got the last of the building materials put up or at least out of sight.
Katie, Maybe you're still on and will see this tonight... that would be cool since I'm loading pictures at the moment. I know that we were talking about cercis forest pansy in the late spring. The photos that I showed you of the trees, was it recent photos after they had been pruned? Or fall photos when they are finished growing for the season? Or have you decided on what you are going to plant in "that spot" already.
Your right Portland, i do remember the portion from Belmont to Division better than most of it, and in particular the theatre. Fun characters there. Ok, so if you were to follow Hawthorne out to the end.... does it head up and up and up a hill into a farely wooded area that overlooks a part of Portland? I'm trying to remember if I just stayed on hawthorne to get to their house or if I had to make one more turn. A 1905 house would be fun..... and work! You should have a belated "century birthday party" for your house when you have finished the repairs you want to make. I friend of mine has a house that is to turn 100 in 8 or 9 months, and by then they'll have fixed what they want to. So they are going to have a birthday party for their house and are going to display the earliest photos that they can find of the house and the surrounding area as well as photos of the "fixing". Then they are also thinking of some other "old time" things that they can do for the party. I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
I was just going to mention the rain and forgot! when I was in Eugene, yep it did rain a little bit. However, it didn't make it to my place :-s Not sure what to make of that. I had to turn sprinklers on a couple of days ago and I avoided watering one or two areas today because I was for certain I was going to get some rain soon. the upside, being dry does make the leaves easier.
Sorry I missed you, RC.
I think we were talking Cercis Canadensis Forest Pansy and Cotinus Coggrygia. I was just wondering how you kept them small. The pictures you posted were, I thought, at the end of the season - not right after pruning. I'd love to see what your pruning looks like.
I don't have Forest Pansy, but I have a Cotinus "Grace" that I really love for fall color and would love to keep in a smaller bed. I'm not so big on the blossoms, but, as I said, I love the color.
I worked outside yesterday in light sprinkles. Got the golf course flowerbed all cleaned up and covered 3" with compost. Took two loads of yardwaste to the recycle and they were having a free day ^_^ Have the truck full of more compost but it has rained all day. I'm doing bags instead of 5 yards. Much easier. I bought "Gardner & Bloome" brand, it is like a fluffy rich looking mulch. I will be happy when all the beds are done.
ahhhh darn Katie, I still don't think that I have picture then right after pruning. Remind me after Christmas if you think of it. I prune the rest of the fall pruning shrubs/trees as they loose their leaves, but those I leave until after christmas because I put lights on them. I'll post some pictures later here of the size that they are now compared to whatever they were in May or June, then I'll have to remember to take pictures after I take lights off of them.
No problem. You have a good memory. I wasn't waiting for it, but will love to see what you do.
What I took away from our earlier conversation was that I could have both those trees in smaller spaces and get the best of both worlds. I hadn't realized that before. So thank you!!
if you want to know a little of how my last couple of days have went, this sort of sumes it up. I posted this in another thread of well, but I think it's sort of interesting.
So, I just had to share this. A family friend asked me if I would take care of her 2 dogs and a cat this week, which I have done before, and I said sure. Things have always been par for the course before. You can imagine my surprise when I get there and see this.
I found a note inside that did say that she was taking care of this goat for a couple of months. This thing is not friendly and tries to charge me if I get too close, but it's hard to stay away since it wants to be with the dogs and I need to feed and give the dogs some attention. It'll be interesting. lol
you have a very interesting trick or treater their Sally. Glad that one is yours and not mine. Although, I'm sure that the ones that wear that costume will show up here much later tonight or in the morning.
