Thank you Portland, this is one of the friendliest groups of folks. Great recommendations, suggestions and ideas. It has been a nice change of pace from NC. Hope you're not too sore to play outside again in this beautiful weather - forecast for the week is wonderful.
Tilly, I think you need to make the albums public. Because of that I can't tell if you're doing anything wrong.
Good Luck Tilly, I am trying to figure this thing out also.....I finally got the farmers market pictures to where I think they will come up!!!

Ladybugfan a belated welcome, I have been running in circles lately.....hopefully I will get to slow down soon!
After everyone else gets it figured out, I'll give it a try.LOL
Mom has gotten further than me now.
Tilly forgot to say how awesome those pictures are!!!! Love the cats and the spider especially.
Portland1...I know what you mean about not being used to gardening. I didn't have the space or the time when I was working. Up here it seems I never get done.LOL Of course part of it is that I keep wanting different things. It's fun when it all comes together. The first couple of years we spent taking out old overgrown hedges. Ugh!!
ladybug, i'm so glad that you're prepared. I'm sure it makes the move much easier. more often than not, when I meet someone new to the area, most of them have the same responses: they had no idea that the winter was so grey, and they didn't realize that we get above 80 or below 32....so they didn't put winter/all weather tires on their vehicle and got in a bind (i need to do that soon :-s) . Hopefully your clan is liking it here so far!
This is definitely a great group of people that hang out here!
Portland, I sure hope that the soreness weares off soon! Hang in there. I sure hope that you find your charger soon, I think that we're all curious to see what you have going on. Hopefully you'll get some sort of before and after pictures so you can always know how far you've come!! Unfortunately there's really not a fall and winter blooming bulb however, there are a few fall blooming bulbs. I'm sure you know about them already. The early winter camellias should start in nov/early dec. and then the earliest hellebores after that. It's nothing compared to spring, but it's a little something. The snow has thwarted my early hellebores (they won't bloom for me until after snow is gone for a while) for the last 2 years, very upsetting since I soooooo look forward to them!! However, there's always hope in trying. My winter violets have bloomed pretty reliably interemittantly throughout Jan and Feb. A very small something to hold over until more goes on!
Nice job ZM!!! I really like your web album. I definitely agree with you on the comment of cauliflower or sea creature! The habaneros look great too!
I love winter violets. And my daffodils are starting to come up already! Long time til bloom, but the stems mean they're coming.
I like winter, DH has a harder time (he doesn't like the cold). It gives me a break from outside chores ^_^ and I can find time for a good book or a favorite movie. It's time to recharge for spring.
Don't the winter violets just seem to be sort of the little troopers of winter? At least that's how I think of them. What sort of daffodils do you have Sally!!!!! I want to get some. Really and truly! do they normally start to appear this early for you? I wish I had more of the attitude toward winter as you do. I'm really not much of a home body, so I sort of drag through the winter paying all my attention to: the little violets, camellias, hellebores, you know... the ones that I ignore the rest of the year!
But you have to remember I don't have to go to work in it everyday. That makes a big difference. Plus I have too many hobbies. Between making cards and my needlework, I never run out of things to do. I got DH one of those sun lights at Costco last year, that helped him some. Plus we bought him that keyboard, so he keeps busier now too.
I have different kinds of daffodils, some are early, some are late. And yes the early ones start about now. They shouldn't bloom for another month, but this year? Who knows? Have you seen the bags of bulbs at Costco, they sometimes have varieties.
Thanks for the info. No, I haven't seen the bags of them at Costco, but I will definitely make a trip over there the next time I'm in town to check it out! In the past, the earliest ones that I had known of were Feb. types, so Jan. will be a treat.
So, I went outside at around 6 or so to take a picture of "the weather" to post here tonight and I had accidentally changed the setting on my camera. when I saw the outcome of it on the camera, I almost deleted it. But, then I thought... naw, I'll check it out on the computer to really see what it looks like. This is how it turned out, weird, but i actually think that I like it.

this was what I was actually trying to get a picture of. I did move a little to the left, so the willow is not in the right corner of the last picture. But, other than that you can tell that they are taken of the same area.
Looks like the last one got lost. I like the first one, it looks like some of those weird movie effects.
that first one is odd, I likely couldn't do that sort of thing again if I tried!
Shelly, the first one looks like a painting. It does have a weirdly likable effect.
I love daffodils and grape hyacinths. The muscari leaves came out a month ago, but won't bloom til spring. It just gives that glimmer of new growth that we sooo look forward to in the spring.
Good morning Jan. that's a great way of describing it! I have been trying to figure out what I think of it and 'a weirdly likeable effect' just nails it on the head. I can't believe your muscari leaves are out already! Mine have never shown themselves before late Feb. and the yellow ones are at times as late as the end of March. Hmmm... I know that the yellow ones could be a little different, but is there that much of a difference in bloom times between the different varieties of purple muscari?
Sally, what type of needlework do you do? Mom and Grandma make a lot of really cool cards; you should talk to her about that.
Shelly, glad you didn't delete that picture, I think they are both fantastic!!
I'm glad I am not the only one having problems posting pictures!! The last week or two it seems like it is taking forever to get a picture up......no problem elsewhere, just on DG.....???
I love Daffs......don't have any yet, but they are on my want list....
Cards??? Did we hear someone say Cards?! Sally what kind of cards do you make??? Mom and I do a lot of Rubber Stamping and Paper Punching....I do some watercolor and combinations of these. I will try and do an album with a few of our card this afternoon and post the site if you are interested.
,
Sally, Here is the link for a few of the cards we have made recently.

Shelly, Question on Picasa .........why does the date under my Farmers Market Album say Feb 1970?
I must of really messed up, I can't load any more Pics to it. and I did set it for public. What did I do wrong???
ZM, to answer your question... I'm not sure why. I had it do that to me once or twice before and it seemingly corrected itself within a day or two. well, it didn't correct the date on the file(s) that it messed up on, but it went back to putting the correct date on files in a day or two. It fell back to a Jan 1970 date. I did make sure that the next time I uploaded pictures that I double checked the date when it prompted me with a file name before officially uploading, but I really don't know that it helped. ANyhow, it sort of went back on it's own. It also did it once when the time and date on my camera messed up when the batteries whent dead. I reset the camera and problem solved. Sorry that's a little vague, but maybe it'll correct itself on it's own for you as well. You can go into the properties of that feb 1970 file and manually change the date to the correct date. Sometimes it records an upload date and a date created (most of the time they're the same, but sometimes not), you can check them both in the properties.

Tilly, did you get yours solved? You have mail.
Calling you.
All the hard work is paying off - I love my house. It was really a mess and I had to have every room fixed, etc. But it was worth the work (and $$$) and so nice that the weather is great for enjoying the porch! There is a lot I want to change in the front yard and I have spent a couple days planting bulbs. Since I know so little about gardening I walk around the neighborhood and study the yards - people probably think I'm strange when I stand on the sidewalk staring!
Nice photos Portland. Like the color of your Virgina Creeper.
Portland, your place looks great! I take it that you found your camera charger then? I love all of it. Thanks for sharing. If you wanted, you could post a picture of your front yard and maybe get some good ideas for things to do with it. Although, nobody will think that you're strange for walking up and down the streets checking out their yards! I've generally found that if they are actually working in they're yard that people are more than happy to tell you about a plant or a feature if you tell them that you're trying to get ideas. Then again, that does depend on what streets in portland that you are viewing :-p But, I assume that it's not downtown or by the industrial areas.
are you home Sofer?? do you have snow there yet?
No the weather has been perfect 50's for the highs and 30 for the lows. Up in the mountains where I have been hunting is much colder but only snow above 5000 ft. Fall is special in Montana. Crystal clear skies and nights with the new moon glowing with stars. I love being home.
wow, that sounds great! you're actually only a few degrees cooler than what I've been, so that actually really good. It sounds beautiful, that's for certain.
My trial run. Thank you so much, Red you have ssoooo much. If this works its just some pics I picked at random. Hope it works LOL
