Nothing really jaw dropping ..but last week I was vacuming again. It stopped and I again presumed I had pulled the plug lose, so checked it. Nope..the switch was turned off again....

Seminole, OK(Zone 7a)

A weird thing happened the other morning as my DH and I were about to go to work. I had noticed that his min pin was looking out the window and wagging his tail. It is dark when we leave for work and the window he was looking out sits very far off the ground so I thought this was curious. Enough that I decided to wait for DH before going out to the truck. We live out in the country and can't see our neighbors from where we live. As we were walking out to the truck we noticed a light out in the pasture. It was a bluish light not like the color of light a normal flashlight would have. We both stopped and just stared. We got in the truck and started the engine turned on the truck lights and looked again, the light was still there. Now where the light was is in the part of the pasture that we have a small car and a horse trailor that needs to be fixed parked in. We decided to drive down the road in that direction as that part of the pasture runs paralell to the road, we couldn't see anything. The moon was shining pretty bright off the horsetrailor though. The night before DH had commented on how bright the moon was. We were driving slow, we turned around drove back pulled up in the driveway and the light was still there. We decided that the moon must be reflecting off the mirror of the car because surely if it had been somebody they would have turned off the light when they realized someone had come out of the house.

The spooky thing besides the dog acting that way we have lived here for 2 years and have never seen a light like that and I'm sure the moon has been that bright before.

(Zone 7a)

That's strange. I wonder if it really was the moon.

Nanny, I remember your vacuum incidents.

Nothing new with my printer coming on by itself. It still does it but no writing or picture.

When I was a little child (about 5), at midnight one day, I found myself walk along the street in the village sleepily and aimlessly for a while. And then I made my way home again, but when I reached home, I could not open the door of the house, for the door was being locked from inside. So I woke up my family, and it was they that unlocked the door for me. All of them were surprised how I had managed to get out of the door without touching the door lock. Till now, it is still a puzzle in my mind. I think this is one of the strangest things happened to me.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

That is strange!

(Zone 7a)

Very strange. Have you done that since?

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

When I have time to type it out - have I got some stories for y'all!

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

Here's one story:

When I was young I grew up in a house with a ghost. We called him “George”. The only thing my mom could find out is that he must have been Cavalry. There had been a battle on the land where the house was built.

The SE corner at the ceiling of my brothers’ bedroom would get icy.

Every time we made up our beds and leave the room, we’d come back to the room and there would be a dent on the bed where someone had sat down. We’d straighten it up and leave – come back there it was LOL! We didn’t spend much time in our rooms growing up, always outside, at the community pool/park or at a friends’ house.

One night I remember vividly. My brother used to load up the record player with his favorite albums. When one album finished the next would drop and start playing. Mike had it loaded and ready to go for the next morning. I don’t know what time it was during the night or early morning, but apparently George figured out how to work the record player. Music filled the house “InaGaddaDaVida” started playing very loud. My bothers came screaming out of their bedroom – we all woke up - and the music was still playing.

I didn’t have a whole lot of contact with George. My sister thinks he moved to her house in KS. She said she woke up one night and saw a ghostly man standing at the foot of her bed. That would freak me out.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I have always wondered if I would just totally freakout if I actually saw a figure...

(Zone 7a)

Interesting Sharon. It doesn't seem as if you're frightened of "George". Your sister is okay with him at her house?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Kawonkamish,

Sorry for not posting. Two nights ago, around midnight, I heard a loud snapping noise followed by footsteps. They started up near the fireplace and seemed to be pacing back and forth from the fireplace to the bathroom and back again. It seemed to go on for at least three hours. Then there was another loud snap, then silence.

Yesterday as I was sitting watching TV, I heard something fall in my room, but when I went to look, I couldn't find a thing out of place.

Last night, as I was about to go to sleep, I heard voices speaking. I couldn't figure out what was being said, but I could tell there was more than three of them. It sounded like they were two rooms away just barely audible, so you could hear the tone, but not loud enough to understand what was being said.

Interesting. How have you been these days? Your health is good?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

kwanjin,

You should call the "Ghost Hunters" (TV show) to come to your house. They would have a ball with all their fancy-schmancy equipment.
Tomorrow (Friday) at, I think 9PM, it is supposed to be a really good show.....
It is on the SciFi channel. They are doing their Halloween countdown of 31 shows....

I watched a couple of their shows last night. They go to known, haunted places--set up cameras, video and infra-red recording machines, etc. Then roam (loudly) all over trying to see something or other.....Talk to the ghosts to try and coax them out....kind of silly--it seems to me--as I would think observing these kind of apparitions would be better in silence.
Maybe they might even pay you to use your premises.......

Gita

(Zone 7a)

I've watched a couple of those, as well. There are very loud, aren't they? LOL There is a local man who does this sort of thing. Might be fun to have them over just once.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Hey, maybe it helps to be 'loud enough to wake the dead"... ;)

ROTFLOL I say it again! ROTFLOL

Hey, for anyone who's interested, here's an interesting paranormal website, and there's even a chatroom for members. Membership is free: www.ghostvillage.com

(Zone 7a)

Thanks for that. I'll be checking it out later.

At one house my family lived in (we moved around a lot...there were quite a few) I slept in the front bedroom. I noticed after a while that whenever I was in that kind of almost asleep state, I would hear conversations, people talking. Not anyone I knew, just ordinary conversations between unknown people. Nobody else heard them. Only in that room...when I slept in another bedroom with my sister, I wouldn't hear it. And also, sometimes I'd feel like someone was there in the closet in that bedroom. Then on occasion I'd feel something like someone was lightly going over my bed (near the closet) as they left the closet. I didn't like that bedroom and moved in with my sister in the other bedroom!

(Zone 7a)

Yikes! Moving over you WOULD be scary. I would probably move out, too!

Shangshui, Henan, China(Zone 7b)

nanny-56 and kwanjin,

That is really a strange experience, and even I myself cannot work out the puzzle. Ever since then I have not experienced such similar things.

Another story from my uncle (Father's elder brother):
Over forty years ago, one night he put up in a village where his relatives lived. At midnight, shouts were heard in the street, and the shouts became louder and louder, with the whole village came out of the street. No one knew what was happening. But moments later, all the people went back to their home and slept again in silence. villagers said that such things had happened a few times before that. My uncle is a scholar and he consulted all the ancient records kept in the old books but it seemed that he did not find a good answer.

Kawonkamish,

Quoting:
Interesting. How have you been these days? Your health is good?

Well... my blood sugar is out of whack; my arthritis, carpal tunnel and tendinitis is killing me, but otherwise I'm OK... lol.

How are you? What is everyone doing for Halloween?

(Zone 7a)

LOL I asked, didn't I? Well, you can still get up each morning, yes?

We're giving out candy. I decorate the front yard and have some fun. It's a zombie motif this year.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Kawonkamish,

Usually we give out regular size Hersey and KitKat bars, also Reese's cups, but we just can't afford giving out the candy this year. We usually get between 100-120 kids. So, we're giving out pretzels this year. I picked up 3 bags of pretzels, with each bag contains 40 packs. We turn the lights on at 6pm and leave them on until 9pm.

Next year we'll be giving the candy out again.

Aquene,
Moe/WautuckquesSochepo The Official Halloween Ghost Rabbit

(Zone 7a)

We have the carmel apple pops this year. If they make it to Halloween. Heh heh heh We usually get between 10 and 30 kids.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Anyone remember the candy apples with the hard red coating? Those were my absolute favorites, and I haven't seen them for years--if anyone knows where I can get some, please let me know.

Hmmm, ghost stories...there was a period of a few days when my bedroom door opened by itself several times. I would walk out and close it behind me, and it would promptly open back up. I figured there was something wrong with the doorknob mechanism, no big deal.
One day, I was inside my bedroom, and reached for the doorknob to open it....but it turned and opened on it's own! Nobody there.
Another day, I was sitting here at the computer (probably on DG, lol), and the door opened by itself....and an unfamiliar female voice called my name!!
That was a couple months ago, and nothing since has occurred. Never have figured it out...

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Here is a page of recipes http://allrecipes.com/Search/Recipes.aspx?WithTerm=candy+apples&SearchIn=All
I think the Candied Apples II , about 5th on the page is close to what you want.

Oh my Gosh,
Kywoods, that would send me running from the house!

Not the door opening but the voice...
Has this ever happened before?

Haven't had anything happen or that I have noticed...
I always feel like something unusual is in the basement, but it's been quiet for a while.
LOL, maybe we have a mouse.

(Zone 7a)

The Ghost of Mouses Past!!! LOL

At the store where I work, the elevator opens by itself when you approach. There are no sensors to tell it someone is coming, it just does it by itself. and only on the second floor. I ALWAYS say "thank you." LOL you never know...

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

sugarweed.....we have to go to a Halloween party tonight, and take a "pumpkin" dish of some kind. I saw your candy apple post, tried it with orange coloring....they came out great! Had so much candy left over, I drizzled it around each apple....looks very Martha Stewartish! I'm tickled! Be sure to use a candy thermometer if you do these. I kept wanting to take it off the stove too soon. I used small apples, as I figured big ones would just be wasted....could have covered more apples.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

That sounds terrific.
I know they will love the apple break in a pumpkin affair.
I'm still composing my spring visit from Frank.
Sidney

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Yessss!!! That's the recipe, thanks sooo much, Sidney! How creative of you to do them in orange for the pumpkin theme--everyone will be so impressed!

Nope, never heard voices before or after that experience, Seedtosser. I wasn't afraid, just stunned and curious. It wasn't in a threatening tone or anything, just a woman saying, "Renée".
Weird.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Maybe...it could have been someone from your family who is deceased. My father's mother died in a tornado when he was nine. She appeared to him a while later and talked to him. He told me about it SO many times and it was so sweet...he never could talk about it without getting a bit choked up, because he loved her so much. I never met her, but I grew up loving her too...because he did.

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

I have more stories, but need to catch up (hopefully today).

We don't get trick-or-treaters at our house. We had a couple in '05 & '06, none in '07. There will be a party at work, but that's it.

(Zone 7a)

Waiting to hear your stories. Sharon.

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

I didn’t have any further activity around me until I bought a house in Jacksonville. Great one story ranch style 2,000+sf. I loved this house.

Well anyway I had a cat, Baxter, who had a lame leg. I always kept him inside unless I was able to go in the backyard with him. He loved playing in the backyard. About a month after I bought the house I was getting ready for work, made sure Baxter was inside, locked up and left. When I came home for lunch Baxter was in the backyard. I freaked. I looked everywhere, I mean I checked windows, everything and couldn’t figure out how he got outside. I even called the previous owner to find out if there was someone that possibly had a spare set of keys “out there”. They said “No”.

Another little mystery:
The house had a screened in lanai that was off the den into the backyard. The garage was separate from the house.

About 2 months after the mysterious Baxter outing I was back and forth cleaning out the garage. The phone rang and I went inside. While I was walking through the lanai I saw an old red paint brush lying on the floor. I picked it up and wondered where it came from. It wasn’t there earlier. I thought maybe one of the cats had drug it in, but couldn’t find any bite marks on it. Very weird. I took it to a friend’s house and threw it away. My weird-o-meter was going off big time.

There is more, but I have to go to lunch!

(Zone 7a)

Oh my! Letting the cat out? If only animals could tell THEIR stories.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Wouldn't that be something..if we knew what are critters see and/or sense!!

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

They do, but I'll be back...After the Baxter incident he was always a little jumpy and nervous until I moved.
