Morning...not snowing but lordy it's cooollllddd out there...wore my two new outfits, now what??? I was spoilt all summer wearing those 'pretties' I got in Florida..never a question of what to wear as they mixed and matched...must drop in the EzzyWear and pick up a few winter outfits... Laura that's where I bought yours, they too are comfy clothing...

Better go give the upstairs a once over..Sailor is losing her hair, though I brush her often it floats from room to room...

Judy glad you got to enjoy a day at home puddling around..that's always nice..am sure DH loved the home cooked meal...

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

They have this thing online that I am getting Betty-it is called the Ferminator-the girl I work with SWEARS by it-just google it:)

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,
Just got my first coffee..it is 0c degrees here..which is 32f. for most of you..right on the freezing mark.

Hooray for you, Betty..what a great surprise to get that extra money from Canada Pension.

Hi Judy..good idea to have a cooking night so things are ready for you and the family after working all day.

Fairy..I was curious so I did Google Ferminator..but saw that it is spelled FURminator..a special tool for grooming pets.

I went to my grandson's for birthday cake last evening (19) ..and wore a felt hat..my son mentioned it..and I said when you are an "old lady" you can wear hats..and it keeps one warm too.
I would love to get one of those aviator hats with the fur and ear flaps for the cold mornings when I go to look after my grandaughter at 7 am. every second week.

yeah-that's what I meant!!LOL It desheds like no ones business!! The girl here at work took a pic of her cat like the ones on the site and it looks pretty much the same!!LOL She said it has reduced general shedding by like 75%-especially in the fall and spring when the big seasonal shedding goes on!!

It was 30f here this am-BRRRRR!!

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Ohh Fairy..brrrr is right..you get the cold weather just like we do.
In fact I think we get your weather about a day later..it just moves across to us.

I wonder how Betty's drive was this morning..no reports of snow along the 400 hwy. that I heard about.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I hope she checks in with us so we know she made it OK....

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm here, got in at 8:00 am even stopped at Timmy's for coffee and BLT..then sat down and started to organize the pkgs. for Saturday "Iris Folding" Christmas cards for the girls..gee it's so nice to be able to craft here at work..lol

Yes Carol, not often you get such a surprise..the different just being $4.05 so must have been for quite some months..that's ok what would I have done with a simple $4.05...buy a donut and coffee...this way...more shopping...lol

No snow..but sooo cold...was amazed at how much between my house and Barrie area..but then we are in what is considered the 'snow belt'

Carol, how did square dancing go yesterday..did you enjoy it? Will have to keep my eye open for the hat you are looking for..I don't wear hats but maybe I should and one like you are looking for that has ear laps on them, might help this chronic ear ache...

Will wait till about 11am and give Sharon a call at the hospital..only thing I would be overwhelmed by being alone is if I became ill, in the hospital all on my very own...always had hubby to chear me up and visit...best not worry about that today right?

I'll check Furminator because every time I brush her I get a shopping bag full then when I come home in the evening it's hair all over...not so much the kitties..

Almost forgot...Ruby is on vacation and asked me to post her d-mail to me for her....

I sooooo want to go to New York City.....

Hey There Sweet Lady - Yes, John and I are away from home for the week. We left last Friday morning and arrived in Atlantic City New Jersey early evening. What a sight to pull in to the strip of many neon lights and tall buildings. We are in a suite this visit, so lots of room to move around. On Saturday we drove to my niece Angela's house and spent Saturday and Sunday nights with her. We brought a lot of plants for her to put in to her fairly new landscape. On Saturday Angela and I shopped for most of the afternoon while the guys stayed home with the kids and watched football. There is a chain store that has a store near Angela's that we went to and I filled my buggy high. I bought so many things tht I had to leave them at her house and will pick them up on the way home on Friday. Such good prices at this store and some really cute gift ideas. I had such fun.

On Sunday John, Angela and I drove over in to New York City. We parked near Broadway and Times Square. We walked around those streets for a while and took in all the mobs of people and the street artists and vendors. I bought a handpainted name plate for Emily. It was very interesting to watch the artist paint it. This for only $5 too was a great deal. I also bought a hand blown glass elephant to add to my collection. I was very aware of the neuropathy that has over taken my legs the last three or so years. I wasn't able to walk any distance at all without having to stop and rest for a bit. So discouraging.

After walking around a bit we took a taxi to the waterfront and bought tickets to ride on a cruise that takes three hours and circles the island of Manhattan. I took the same ride about 20 years ago and found both trips to be very informative in terms of the history of New York.

We then returned home and settled in for the night. I have been quite happy to be able to report that I am sleeping like a baby this week versus how I am at home when if I sleep a three hour stretch I have done well. I began taking another dose of one of my medications that I take for a spastic blader. With my bladder being quiet during the night, I don't wake up. Now to check with my doctor and see if the dosages are correct, I think that I have found the culprit of my sleep issues. I am quite thrilled about this new find.

Yesterday I spent the day in the room resting from all the excitement. Today I will try to visit some of the casinos and see if I can win some money. Wish me luck. Very nearby there are streets and streets of high fashion Outlet Stores. I am going to try and find a directory today and see if there are any that I am interested in visiting. I would also like to partake of one of the casino buffets that I have heard about. We have mainly been eating at a little hole in the wall dive on the boardwalk that we found when we visited here a few years ago. They make the most delicious cole slaw. The first night we ate there I was able to get a very small portion of it. The next night I told John to order a side order of it for me. For the past two nights they have been out of the slaw and I am so let down. ha-ha Oh, well. I am sure that one of the buffets will have some cole slaw for me to try.

Betty, if you don't mind, please post this on the BWL board. I haven't read any threads since last Thursday, so I am way, way behind. I won't even try to catch up. If there is anything interesting, exciting, gossipy, etc., please let me know. ha-ha Greetings from Atlantic City to all my fellow gardeners. I should be home this weekend and get back to posting on a more regular schedule. HAve a great day everyone.

Ruby

Glenview, IL

Good Morning,
Oh how nice Ruby's vacation is going. So glad to hear a good rest has been had too.

Betty, LOL...now you can buy some more new outfits! Play mix and match.
Hows the cards coming along? Which reminds me to ask, when do the workshops start up?

Well Happy birthday to your grandson Carol. LOL, I wear hats and or hoods, they are awsom to keep warm, and i bundle in a scarf too! LOL can't afford to get sick.
Had to think about the aviator hat, then lightbulb went off.

Yikes, Fairy, we are getting the cold here in IL. This weekend is too be pretty balmy.
So, stacked a ton of wood inside. Do you have a fire place? We love ours...

yep, making all the food last night frees up the week. Steve was in his glory ordering me around, lol...stir this, open these cans, was fun, tonight all I got to do is heat it up...

OK, well better find somethig to do.
enjoy the Day...
Waiving Hi to Gita too...

Geesh, had a heck of a time trying to make this post...
hope fully this one gets through.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

We do-but wood is SOOOO expensive:(

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hi Stacey, so glad you can drop in...

I have 3...2 are electric and 1 run by 20 candles..lol...
There are such high needs now to have a wood stove issued by the insurance company - remember last year my brother's house burnt and because he had a wood stove they paid ziltch..you have to have a signed approval...soooo electric will do fine..a lot of work although so nice and cozy...so with the flip of a switch, there's the heat!!!

When I'm down and need an up I light all the candles in the 3rd fireplace...what a sense of peace it gives...the one in the basement rec.room is only on if we're using it...

Judy, I can just see Steve giving orders..lol... is he off now that he finished that big job or is he now working locally...saw you posted that the cottage was winterized...do you not go up in the winter...

How is your nephew and his wife doing..were you able to reach them...
Do the kids go out for Halloween? Know Kyle is borderline, still wants to be a kid but at the same time thinks he's too grown...

A few more years and they will no longer need grandma Betty to do costumes, who knows by the time the youngest (10) is done I might have great grandchildren...

Lunch hour is almost here..I've a mission, $$$ store for some tape, cards and ziplock bags, then the Costume Depot and further is Fright Room trying to find an Abominable Snowman mask or similar that I can alter...if not, then on-line for a quick shipment of one....

LeeAnn usually goes on-line to pass the hour while I'm on lunch..I've set her up with supplies, quickly before I leave I'll show her how to make a card and she can play with that...might have her making all her Christmas cards...

She was just telling Suzanne that sending 'Christmas' cards are almost a thing of the past now that you can e-mail a card...just not the same...I so love getting Christmas cards...then the next year I cut them up and use as gift markers...this year using same process as the Iris Folding I'll make my markers...need something to entertain me...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. It is nice and cool here today, Like a fall day should be. 66 degrees, and a real soft breeze. Our trees, (arizona ash) are the only trees we have, and they are still nice and green. Flowers are still in bloom, and pretty, Guess they like the cool weather.
I used to live in Michigan, so I know what you all are going through, and just want to say, I am glad I am here, not there.
betty, glad to hear of your little funding surprise you got. Now don't go out and spend it all in one place!
Linda Kay

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay, I never have difficulties spending..if it's not something to entertain me craft wise, clothing, gifts etc. then I'll find somewhere for it to go...lol...I'll especially love spending this amount because it came from the Government....

Forgot to post the answer to yesterday's question....

Answer: Body Hair! A scientist has been working on the relationship between body hair and intelligence for 22 years and says that men with hairy chests, for example, are among the most intelligent and highly educated in society

Now you'll all be checking out your men...lol
Roger wasn't hairy...hmmm was intelligent though...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Todays Question of the day.....

75% of women say they won't get 'romantic' with a guy for THIS reason.....do you know the reason????

Glenview, IL

Hi LK, wow...seems just like yesterday we had 66, well it was last week, then in a matter of hours was in low 50's.

Betty, your candle fire place does sound lovely. I have seen them in pictures a very nice ombiance. our fire place is is both gas and or wood burning. Dh and my brother go out and take down trees, We have enough wood through next season. Thank goodness because am so tired of stacking, restacking...but in long run so well worth it. Got to have my fires...
No, I have not heard from my nephew, they had a small funeral on Monday. I didn't hear about it until Sunday night. Nephew told me they are doing ok, very tired so was trying to catch some rest. I will try and get in touch with them this weekend.

Steve, is lined up through the winter months. He has a humungus job coming up next month...Downtown. The people he will be working for live in New York, so They came in one day, was a 12 hour day for Dh...They did all the shopping and choosing and and all the decisions that day! Everything will be done via computer phone and fax! we are just thrilled with the job. Another Gut and rehab...

I hear you on the costumes. My little guy is trying to decided if he will dress up or what, LOL i suppose it will depend on his buddies.

have fun shopping for all your materials...
Woohoo, half the day is done.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, will it be near Oprah's place? near where he was working when I was there...I still can't believe he took the time to bring us up into her building on the common floor so we could take photo's of the view...just think of the halla ballooooo if she would have come down the elevator same time as Liz,you, I and Steve....one of my disks of photo's work and the other I can't access...want Jeff when he comes up to see if you can access it...if I try, who knows, might never have a computer again..lol...

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

My guess is Back Hair-YUCKKKKKK!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Stacey, won't know the answer till tomorrow but that is a good answer...

ARRGGG, went to 2 costume places to try and find a mask suitable for the abominable snowman..no go...searching the web
http://www.thehorrordome.com/HDSHOPPINGPROPS/AbominableSnowmanLARGE.htm
I saw this photo...

first store had nothing, 2nd store had the insert of the tummy in plastic..really nice but you'd not be able to sew it to material, had another made of foam so purchased it, looks too new for what it's intended to be so guess I'll take out my trusted paints and some fur lol and do a job on him...but still no mask

So got to get this brain going, don't usually have a stumbling block but have one...think it's because the material I bought because Suzanne said it would do, just won't...so will be on the lookout for fur..I'm so laughing, if I keep that up that bonus from Canada Pension will be spent on an abominable snowman costume...see the price...what over $400 - 500. - should have bought it and said I made it...so laughing..they'd know...

LeeAnn did a great job on her Christmas Card..just the decorating and it's done...think I'll have her hooked...

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, are there two Laura’s or am I missing something?

Victoria Harbour, ON

One Laura...The Wonder_Down_Under...why did I talk to 2..could do..scatter brain that I am...lol...

Glenview, IL

Holy mackroles, thats outrageous fo a costume!!

LOL, when i think abominal snowman I think the cute one from the christmas cartoon! Then I looked at that web, yiiikes!!

oh Betty, forgot to answer, yes the cottage is closed during winter. Unless the guys go up and work. But they aren't planning on it at the moment. Then of course DH and kids looks at snow mobiles, so who knows...I, personally won't go up in winter, it's beautiful, but I'd rather hibernate right here. LOL

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, not a problem, just didn't know there were two of us.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lots of Laura's and Carol's Laura..lol..excuse us if we get you mixed up...

Judy, come on, snowmobiling is just soooo much fun...I used to live on them, now I enjoy an hour outing and rather be home next to fireplace making soup and rolls for everyone...that's when you know you are getting old...remember those ice caves I posted last year???? things of beauty out there...

Darlene just called me to tell me that my girlfriend's husband Len died...OMG she'll be beside herself...both he and Erin orginally came from Ireland...life of the party, both sang in bands and when retired, she took up painting and he did a little electrical work..he had massive heart attacks about 10 years ago, was told to slow down to a snails pace..know he was working as though nothing was wrong...

Will have to give her a call, then Darlene proceeded to tell me of an acquaintance who passed as well..told her not to call unless she had some good news...

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I knew there were multiple Tinas, Debras, and a couple others, and my name is very common, I just didn't know there was another one I was talking to.

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL...Laura, do you get snow? you are just south of B.C. Canada right..such lovely weather there in the winter..when our dollar got so bad a few years ago rather than go to Florida, many spent winters in B.C. (Vancouver Island)...

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

We get snow, but not much. Maybe a couple of inches a year, over several scattered days, and it usually doesn't last long.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Bad teeth/breath?

BIG beer belly?

He belches a lot?

He thinks his Mom is the ideal woman?

He pays too much attention to other women?

...OK! I am sure it is more non-obvious than those!

Gita

Glenview, IL

LOL, those are good Gita!

Hey, Liz! Jacob says hello to ya.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Judy-what is he supposed to be??

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jacobs a card...getting big isn't he Judy..most likely his last year of trick or treat..

Gita I'm so laughing...

Want the answer...just got it...

WHEN SHE HASN'T SHAVED HER LEGS....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Had a new student tonight..she thinks I'm the best think since sliced bread...she brought a sleigh with a santa basecoated, boy does she need brushes...anyway..says she'll be back next week and the next and the next...lol

Sure wish I didn't have to work tomorrow, what I wouldn't give to stay home...however, boys are making the move so they'll be busy for the next 2 days..

If I was a smart girl I'd get up extra early and cut out a pattern...Christmas Carollers and most likely could get them basecoated while at work tomorrow and 1/2 day Friday...

Worse of today - learning that Len passed away...and that I'm a terrible sister...wanted to call Sharon at the hospital, told the girls tonight to remind me and then completely forgot..she's going through a depression stage as well...if it wasn't for having someone else in the room I'd call now...

Best of the day...learning that today just MIGHT be the last day that the kind, jovial gentleman who toots all day will be leaving for the other office
What did I learn...hmmm not much..ahhhh simple thing...no matter how big a santa (5 feet) is, and the painting girls all year have been in and out of the back laundry room, not one noticed him....how could you not...lol now they all want to do one...

Tired so it's off to bed..
Night/night

Liz, helllloooo glad you dropped in, been awhile...did you put out at least a couple of Halloween things...got the box out with the Halloween things you sent last year..pretty...someone else sent me a few goodies, thought I marked who, didn't and now I'm racking my brain trying to remember...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry guys one more post before I call it a night..haven't had supper yet so won't bother but when I opened the refrigerator there was a container and a note...
said, "your cranberries are on the back porch table...thought you might enjoy some curds..."

Help help what is curds?????
Doesn't look too appetizing so think it will be another science project waiting to be put into the garbage a month from now..lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

well Betty, curds is usually made from cheese, like cottage cheese. Don't know what cranberry curds are? Who are they from?
Let us know.

Just found a recipe for them.

I love your list Gita. I'm very lucky that Keith finds hairy legs attractive - prefers hairy over shaven. That's just fine with me.

Betty, have you not heard the nursery rhyme Little Miss Muffet? Curds are what comes between milk and cheese. After the milk is curdled the whey is drained off till just the curds are left. Then the curds are pressed together and aged. Or in your case, the curds are packaged and put in your fridge you you can enjoy them. I LOVE curds . . . mmmm. Real poutine is made with white cheese curds (not shredded cheese like some places use). It's so much better with the real stuff. Now I'm getting hungry. Keith left today to go to a conference in Sudbury. Maybe I'll have to get him to hunt down some white cheese curds before he comes back.

Ella is being a big crabby pants. I noticed today that she's getting a couple molars so I guess she has an excuse. She's just driving me crazy though.

So, I think I mentioned that I'm homeschooling Sonora this year. I decided over the weekend that I was going to take a break from doing 'busy' work with her for a little bit. Also, I decided that I wanted to go for a daily walk with her so we could explore things together. Yesterday I taught her Pig Latin which started a discussion about vowels. Today we walked to the store and I gave her her allowance before we left. On the way we discussed how much she gets for allowance per month. She gets paid weekly so she had to figure out the number of weeks in a month and then multiply the amount by that. Then she figured out how much went to tithing and long term saving and how much she could spend. Since we were walking all of this was done in her head. I was very happy that in each of our first two walks we were able to have learning/review opportunities that were natural and enjoyable. I'll still do some things with her that would be considered more 'schooly'. But it's been really nice to work her schooling into real life.

Ian lost his two front teeth yesterday. I'll be able to sing that song for Christmas. They were a little loose before but a couple weeks ago he had an accident at school that really loosened them up. He thinks he's pretty cool now with a couple holes in his mouth. School is going well for him. His teacher is really laid back and a good friend of mine so there's great communication.

Each spring and fall the dump gates are open for about a month so people can clean up their yards and get rid of garbage. They close this Friday though so guess what I'm doing tomorrow. To the dump, to the dump, to the dump dump dump . . . . . . .
