(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

lil at least he left when you yelled .lol our squirrels are vicious , we have a pecan tree in the front yard and when i walk under it on the walk way they hang forward and scream at me . the first time that happened i had nightmares . i never saw a squirrel scream . and they chirp or whatever when they see me dig . they always go and dig it up no matter what it is and leave it laying on the ground . so i use Louisiana hot sauce on everything it works ! now they just go dig a little till their hands start to burn . i cant believe you had such a close encounter with a bear . my aunt lives in the boonies in ny and theres always bears( no one got that close though) and bobcats and a wolf even got into the house ran through the back door right out the front . oh lol and skunks haha! a skunk got in one time and sprayed up her whole house lol .

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Dana, yes I guess that would be fair, but their day being grounded will go by fast and the grey hair stays forever.

Linda Kay, I have 3 little sticks in the kitchen of Blue Satin I’m trying to root for you but try the seed too because I haven’t gotten even the beginning of a root yet. I have never been successful with hardwood cuttings. TY for the virus info, things like that always look okay to open.

Ester, I found the thread from the TX RU, you look fantastic in that pix. I saw Peg and Beck to. I know ya’ll had a great time.

Stairlight you would freeze up here in the NE. We don’t think 40 is cold, it need to go in the 20’s before we take out the winter jackets. So happy you son is coming for a visit. It is so hard when they are stationed overseas. Where is based? My daughter is on her way back Italy tomorrow, I’m lucky to see her once a year.

Beck, your loot looks great, I love the tree. Praying for good new for your momma, and for your DH to get fix up.

Phyllis I don’t think I could move it there was a bear that close to me. We don’t have any around here and I hope it stays that way.

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

YAY Donna.. sooo glad to hear about you rooting the cuttings!! One step closer to getting back to the real you!!
Dana... the squirrels do me the same way, but I haven't seen very many since Ike rolled into town... that Ike was sooo bad. He even came back the 3 days I was gone to the RU.. but funny HE only tore up the inside of my house!!...LOL My DH wouldn't pick up anything even if it smacked him in the face...
Esther.. it was so good to get to meet you and I enjoyed talking to you!! I don't even know what that thing is back up there you are asking about... lol.. sorry!!

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

(Phyllis) Osceola, PA(Zone 5b)

Their favorite food is catfood....LOL

My DH is the same way...Most times he thinks I was put on this earth to wait on him hand and foot...LOL
My fault I guess...I spoiled him...

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Hey Hottie & Handsomes! How goes yer Monday??? Becky, thoughts and prayers with you for Momma & Lyle... (inside hurricane.. :) I have one more seed packet envelope to send and I'm caught up on my mailings! WOOHOO.. I'll d-mail everyone in a sec to let them know they have something on the way... Only thing left outside is the big brugs and some bulbs, and a little ETC.. but that can wait a bit... I hope... Becky, Mikey started the $1 thing as a joke... cute post up there, Mike ;) lol We could have our Hottie & Handsome RU paid for if they's just hire me for the MC commercial!!! Anybody Know ANYBODY at Mastercard??? Karen and Joyce, all you hotties and handsomes are really funny and cute with me and my hottie, bruggie, plantie, hippie wheels! Phyllis, you are one brave woman up there in Lions & Tigers & Bears territory! I have squirrels (tree rats, they are cute till they dig up what you plant -good idea on the hot sauce, Iris!) bunnies, foxes, and deer.. Last summer I SAW a skunk pair... clammering next to the chain link...they are like sivet cats and are in the kitty-cat family...makes sense they would like cat food.. My mother had a childhood friend that had a pet skunk, they had her DE-oderized (the skunk;) , but Mom said you could still smell a faint skunk smell when the "pet" was around... LK- Bless you with your Dad.. Tammie, after moving more plants in yesterday, save me a spot in that hot tub! Starlight, I'm so glad you get some time with your son...hate it that he has to go back... give him a HOTTIE hug for me! Those young men and women are top notch people in my book.. Bless them ALL.
I'll do my d-mails and check back in.. I had a day BEFORE I got to work this mornin...

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Speaking of weather and moving the plants in....spent ALL day doing just that yesterday. My apologies if this is one of "those" questions that's been asked a zillion times but - if one must give the brugs a trim does something need to be put on the cut area??

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Esther, I have a cordyline and was told it was "very tender and would not make it through the winter here, I would have to bring it indoors." That was before the neighbor ran over it and then it grew back, and then a hail storm took off its entire top and then it grew back! So, if this is a tender plant, I wonder what they think a tough plant is?? :)) But, I have been told it will not take a freeze. This is my first winter with it, so all I can tell you is what I've been told.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

AuntB - you lookin' for Passis?? ^_^ Be happy to send you some unless there's a particular kind you're looking for??? I have volunteers coming up various places in the yard still...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hello everyone.
Wolfie, I got your box of cuttings today, and just wanted to say Thank you. I have your payment ready to go out Tuesday. I will enjoy thier blooms next spring.
I also would like to know, that if I cut my 6 foot brugs, down to a stalk, does that stalk have to be protected from the elements, or do I just save the cuttings, and hope for the best? All my brugs are in pots, not the ground. I am right on the border of zone 8b, 9a.
Please let us all know what to do.
James, sounds like your garden is coming along pretty good. With the plants you got fom the round up, you will have a Superb garden.
lilsista, I have smelled skunks up close, and it is not a good thing. That smell never goes away!!!
Thanks
Linda Kay

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Hay Hotties, I've been lurking again lol!
Chantell you don't need to put anything on those cut areas. Just be sure to sterilize your cutters between plants to prevent spreading any disease. I have also seen that brug before that you had a question about but I have never grown it. I don't know the seller either but maybe one of the longtime members may. I guess at .99 cents you cant go wrong...

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Ahh Caren - thank you!!! I don't mind buying off new sellers...I was more just "window shopping" - and adding things to a wish list for spring. I was just hoping someone might give me their opinions on it...mostly scent since I can see what a pretty bloom it has. ^_^

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Oh my gosh, Chantell! YES, Hottie, yes, I NEED more plants! ;) Clemen has a real nice ORANGE one... so I decided to try rooting it.. and I AM looking for Incense.. it could possibly be hardy for me here at the north pole. I think it would be "groovy" (hottie hippie talk;) on the chain link fence.. whatcha got??? (I'm hopeless and I'm starting to not even feel guilty about my plant... appetite..anymore) And you don't HAVE to trim your brugs, I take most of the leaves off cause bugs can hide in them and sometimes they fall off anyway getting used to "playing inside", so I'm saving myself some additional clean up in the basement.. I do spray them down with Neem and let it dry before bringing in...get it on every inch of the plant, leaves, buds, stem and even the top of the soil, too. Make sure there are no bugs or webs up under the rim of the pots, too.
Wolfie, I never like to whack em like that, but I have and will in future.. much better than watching them bow down to frost. How much stuff you got in that lil shed/greenhouse, anyway??

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

LK, I'll let Peg or somebody answer your zone 8/9 brug questions.. James, I meant to ask what was the MOST unique plant you picked up at the RU? I like the weird stuff, too.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

LOL - nah, I don't even try to make excuses for my plant addictions...just forewarn the tribe (the teens) when I'm hauling them all in...LOL I have Maypop and Incense...the volunteers will be a mystery though..not sure which one...I think both are hardy though...God knows they come back from roots each year here. I'll check directly beside incense and see if there are any mini-mee's in there that would be mailable.
I neemed EVERYTHING yesterday...may hit them again. I brought in the smaller potted tropicals in back...the ones in front face south and as I said are in front of my brick front so I "think" they'll be ok a bit longer. God knows everyone in house is thrilled when I can't wait long enough and the aroma of neem fills the main area...LOL...only thing better is when your brain goes MIA and you water with fish emulsion INSIDE...yeah, that went over real well last March....they've still not forgiven me....LOL

Where can one get some neem oil?
LK

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I heard that Dyna-Gro's neem oil is the best - I purchased mine off ebay...not sure who else carries it.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I got mine at lowes in a concentrate

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks, My list of San Antonio purchases is growing.

Butterfly is a pretty one, Pink if I remember correctly? I wanted to mention the H&H RU... How nice of Louise to offer her place for our 4-legged friends, IF we have it somewhere close to KC.. I was thinking maybe a less commercialized place than Disney.. I want to spend time with you hotties and for most of us (I think) it would be a 2-4 day weekend trip.. a nice serene place that we could go wild in IF we want and not bother the neighbors.. ?? Someone up there offered a place to stay and I can't find it right now.. maybe it was for the Disney idea.. don't know if ya'll notice, but I AM trying to keep up with ya, updating the list up there..
Louise, I cheated yesterday and just lurked to try to stay up on the thread.. I was in DG checking addrs, etc.. so I think you are to be commended for catching this far up! YAY, Louise!!
Becky, hope the "3" of you are getting something accomplished at drs' offices.. Love your stash pic of your RU haul!!
Okay, my day: I was only going to be 10 or 15 minutes late for work... the car place called me Friday to late to go pick up my car... but since I THOUGHT the boss would be back today, I figured I could get my car tomorrow when things were more settled in the office... So, I'm still driving the company truck..I didn't even get into Topeka city limits and I hear a funny snap or crack and then like a flap, flap, flap, flap, kinda like a flat tire.. luckily an exit is right there, so I pulled it over to the right side of the exit lane..after further investigation, it was not a tire.. transfluid leaking out, luckily my cell was charged and I had service at that point, so called the boss, found out he was still in Cabo and told him, never mind, I'll take care of it. (I have the co credit card).. so I called the lady with my car, she brought her tow truck, we went back to the shop (opposite direction), I picked up my car and made it to work by 10:45.. Truck- cracked transfer case.. $2500, B's car...$470.. least it wasn't the other way around... Well, there went my dirt work/basement fix... only money? Right? And the house is insured.. I just LOVE living on the edge! Edge of sanity! mwahahahahaha Still the sun is out, (till tomorrow) and I have my health. Now I have to figure out a cover for my car cause they couldn't find the leak.. $470 for ignition switch and fixing some wiring.. mostly labor.. WHY didn't I take auto-shop instead of home ec??

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Okay, guys, it is October, right? I have two more teeny buds on my Dr. Seuss, two on my MEM and 1 on Puppy Love. These were not here last Friday when I left town. In fact, the Y's were not there on the last two. If our weather stays mild, I may have brug blooms for a while at this rate. And I promise not to drive you nuts like I did with my first ones. But wheee, I like this. Peg

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

hi all,

just checking in...not feeling well today, still have a temp. just going to post the order thread on the co-op and then go crawl back into bed :( but wanted to check in here first... oh and had to check on #26 too teehee

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Peg - what variety is your cordyline? This one is red sister - picture below - it says zone 9a - I'm 8a http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/162509/ - It was real cheap @ Home depot

Hotties - I may have hit on something - y'all been talkin bout everything eating brugs - I haven't had any problem since I've been putting the Mosquito kill in the tray water -it's even safe to put in birdbaths- I got it from the co-op with the soil knife - AM Leonard - just a few feet away the tomato hornworms have been devouring my dats - don't go near the brugs anymore - what do you think? I think I might try putting a couple of bowls under the dats

I bought mine at HD and it said 10" tropical. So I had to get it identified here on DG. It closest to red sensation, a dark burgundy, green.

1Anjl, sorry to hear your not feeling well, Please take care, and make sure your Dr. knows your running a fever.
LK

(Cathy), MO

Been following along and wondering. I can't get Neem Oil here either. No HD or Lowes for 75 miles. So....I called a guy I've done coops with to see if he could get it. He says he will order some in if enough people want it.
He said he can get Dyna Grow Neem oil in the quart size for 25.95 and that includes free shipping. Anyone interested?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Do you dilute it for use? If so how much?

(Cathy), MO

I don't know, have never used it. But it seems everyone else has! Especially for brugs and plumerias.

Carrollton, TX(Zone 8a)

Peg - yours says zone 8a - I wish I knew if mine was hardier than it says - I'll probably play it safe - maybe plant some of it out in spring - Thanks

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Those are cool plants Esther and Peg! The Lowe's kind I have is Greenlight brand, like 2 TBL to a gallon of water... I think it was $12, but I don't think its as big as a quart.. I'd help you out on the coop one, but just wrote that big check for my car. I used it on Elephant ears, too, almost EVERYTHING I brought in EXCEPT ferns.

AnjL- I am concerned about your fever, too.. could indicate infection, girl.. better call your doctor or ask a nurse or someone.. feel better soon so you can play here with us.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Bruggie town in NY, some cuttings and still not done, hee hee. Will post later hotties, need to make dinner!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

To give an idea - the Dyno-Gro is I think 1 teaspoon w/ 1 teaspon dish soap mixed and added to 1 qt of water. Just so everyone knows the ratio and how much or little you'd be using.
