What's your most disappointing shot of the day? Vol.3

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

OMG, if there were actually a robin in that picture, it would be SO STUNNING! Keep trying, I'd love to see it!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I just saw on the daily thread that you did get that robin after all. Congrats!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I might have been able to get another shot but a cow decided to step between the camera and the mark!! The sun was out today for about 2 seconds and this was my shot!

I see that robin up there hiding!!

Oh Rose...that silly cow..and the evil branch too. LOL

Garden City, MI(Zone 6b)

This is a very interesting thread. Now, I've got to figure out how to post some of my pictures.

Some of you thought your camera shook---do you have Image
Stabilization? It is wonderful.

Kay

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I have it but it still can only do so much.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Nanny, try a half a bottle of wine, that might help, LOL!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

ahhhahahahah....good thing I wasn't drinking when I read that!! LOL

might be worth a try.....

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

This wren landed in the tree right next to me. This was my only shot b/c had to use the flash. To bad he didn't look at me!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Ooooo, I have had that happen too...does'nt that just kill ya!! It is right there....

on the other hand here is my wren shot for today...ugh!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, look at all those waxwings. They seem to love gray days! Nice eyeball on that wren!

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

I love that pic of the White-throated Sparrow, Nanny... looks like he's suspended in mid-air!
These "awful" shots, as you call them, are actually quite good, in my book anyway! Most of my pictures look like this. LOL

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Funny thing about that sparrow shot is that I didn't even see it was like that until I downloaded the pics!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I was trying to get this one for awhile the other morning. I needed a good pic so I could correctly ID him, he wasn't co-operating. Any ideas from this angle???

Dark-eyed Junco

Resin

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Resin.

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

This would have been a nice shot of a Junco if it didn't look like it had a twig sticking out of its beak!

Here is a tree full of goldfinches but the lighting was bad and you can hardly tell what they are

Thumbnail by crazybirdlady51
Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

If it weren't for the red on the back of its head it would be difficult to tell this was a red-bellied woodpecker
I need more zoom!

If anyone had any doubts about how educational DG can be, I saw the shot of the little bird posted by flowerjen and thought "Dark Eyed Junco". Five months ago I had never heard of such a bird. (Thanks for confirming what I thought, Resin).

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Margaret, I just did the same thing on a butterfly thread. I looked at it and went "oh that's a white peacock" even though I've never seen one of those either!

I don't even have bad shots to share today! How bad is that!

Crazybirdlady, how cool that you had so many goldfinches! Wow!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

HAHA Ditto to the white peacock Elphy!!

Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

I've been very frustrated lately. At night the sky has been clear as a bell, full moon and stars. During the day, heavy cloud cover, ALL WEEK! The sun is so low on the southern horizon, this time of the year, there just isn't any light. Only gloomy gray! The sky and the mountain tops just fade together in the gray. Not decent conditions for photography. Today I saw this American Kestrel, a rare bird, in this area, first one I've ever seen in Alaska. (Have seen them in the lower 48)
I took a lot of pictures, but the best ones are only fair quality.

With maximum photo enhancements, this is what I can salvage. Way too grainy, but a new species for my photo library.

Gary...we've had terrible weather for taking pics also...and it is frustrating! Your Kestrel looks darn good to me considering the conditions!

I had this HUGH Hawk land in the dead tree yesterday and I tried to take this shot through the window in poor lighting. It was a wasted effort but I was hopeful that at least I could ID. My hopes were dashed!! This is probably the worst pic I have taken so far!!

There were three baby Butcherbirds crammed so tightly into this nest that they looked like a muffin top spilling over the top of jeans. There was no way of getting a shot because of the foliage from the paperbark the nest was in. This shot kinda shows two babies on the left. The parent bird is on the right.

Gary, that kestrel is beautiful. Those shots are pretty good. If it were that dark here, I'd get nothing but a blur.
Rose, I hate it when that happens!
Margaret, so close! I love seeing it even with the foliage.

We are having lots of sun, but my birds have totally disappeared -- not even a house sparrow or a grackle or a white-winged dove. They're always around. A hawk must be in the area, but I can't find it.

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Was trying to get a good, clear image of this one for ID purposes and when he hopped around to face me, he landed square behind the ONE leaf left on the peach tree!

We have been have the same conditions here crazy. I try all day and I just can't get it right in those conditions. Especially up shots towards the sky.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

That's so funny bj! OK, I guess not for you.

I finally spotted the hawk. It's the big Cooper's Hawk and it has clearly staked out my yard and those of three of my neighbors as its territory. It's going from one yard to the next and back again. You'd think I'd at least be able to get a good pic of the hawk. No. Can you find him?

Thumbnail by Elphaba
Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

HA BJ! so funny.

Ooooo, Elphy, you sure did guess right!

Geez Rose, that picture looks like the dead tree is right up against the house!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Now that is funny BJ!!!

He is hid in there good Elphaba...

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

BJ...LOL!

Elp...I see him!

Mrs. Ed...that is a big crop!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Grasmussen, pretty good pic nontheless
BJ- that pic is hysterical.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm so mad at myself! I was sitting outside without the camera when a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker came to call. I've only seen one about twice before. I went in to get my camera and scared it. I only got two headless shots before it flew away. Darn it!

Thumbnail by Elphaba
Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Now, I'm seriously bummed. I saw a hummer! I was inside with the camera, but my binoculars were outside. I took some photos through the window but it was just too far. When I went outside, the dogs ran out there and scared it away.

Thumbnail by Elphaba
Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

This shot isn't any better. Darn it! I have a rufous (rufus? roufus?) that flies through once a year even though it's supposed to be a west coast bird. I sure hope I didn't miss it! I think I see a green back in this photo, but maybe I'm imagining it.

Thumbnail by Elphaba
Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

My gosh you are having a bad time of it aren't you!

Union, KY(Zone 5a)

This Red Tailed Hawk gave me the perfect opportunity for a great shot of it huntimg a field mouse and I blew it. I chased this bird up and down a country road. It gave me 15 shots and I was so excited only two came out well.
