woo, lots of chatter.. COOL beans! Becky, put a half used bar of dial soap (new bar would work, the used one is less obvious) between the mattress and bottom sheet at the foot of your bed... sure helped the Xbf (no more caps on bf, he doesn't deserve that, LOL) REALLY, try it... not sure if it matters on the kind of soap, but it helped, maybe a calcium supplement if you aren't taking any vitamins - dr.Marge (my Momma) remedy. (maybe you were excited about the RU, too?) I know I had trouble getting to sleep the night before ours. You are on your way now and I bet you will get some rubber-necked gawkers rollin down the hiway in your Hottie Plantmobile! LOL you go Girl! Peg, how you doin?
PosyLu, WELCOME back to your Hottie Home.. we missed ya! Dana, love the passion for gardening you have already, anyone moving kids and DH's around, converting laundry and spare bdrms to make way for plants is MY kinda grower! Loved everyone's posts... I have found some of the fluorescent tube lights have more light power than some of the grow light tubes, so might keep an eye on the numbers..can't remember what "electrial term" they have for it.... (real scientific plant nut I am, huh?) I just find a way to make it work and fly with it.
(((Louise)))... funny.... and I know what you're sayin.. well maybe not funny, funny but I hear ya! ;) The pods will stay green well, the little part at the end of the bloom stem.. and once it starts swelling, you'll know it's good... Probably can tell by the fact some are green and some are yellow, but I'd have to put an eyeball to them, for sure... remember I've just started paying attention to seed pods and learning about them, but I think you have some winners, Lav! CONGRATS to you Hottie!
HWolfie, you could bring your "pod plant" inside to ripen... ?... Just 1 plant... :)
Karen -enjoy your fun day.... maybe I could come down there and have a Tex-Mex lunch with ya today? harhar -- (not a teehee)
Kim, droolin over your First Belle... and Louise SO glad Maya is "puttin out" for ya, she is such a joy of a brug to have. I've found she is much easier to start cuttings in spring... however, it doesn't keep me from trying new ways this time of year... I'm going to mess with some cuttings from her this weekend and hope to have some nice rootlings for next spring. Tammie, If that tiny little rootling I sent you fails and the cutting isn't successful for you, you BE SURE to let me know and I will put your name back at the top of my Maya list and hope I'll have success with at least one cutting this fall and she will be yours.
Hi to Kittylover and Cindy (LOVE your pics! I been thinkin about that white one with the pink trimmed skirt... hmmm.......NO, no more this fall, need to see what I end up with next spring, (SEE I DO have some self-control :) hope I didn't miss anyone!
Wonder how many posts were made while I composed this one...I was feelin pretty perky cause I kept up pretty well yesterday.... then I got on here before work.... Donna, everything okay, didn't see an early morning post from ya today.. ?? Maybe you are sleeping in??

edited for some "wording" changes and realized what a jabber-jaw I am.. oh, well...

I have to tell you all a story.
Last week, on my way to the East Texas round up in Tyler, Everyone has to stop at a border patrol check staion. I had my little rental car so full of plants. The agent ask me if I was a US citizen, (usuall question), then he saw what I had in the car. He ask if all my plants were LEGAL PLANTS? I told him yes there were, but I got pulled over and they looked real close to make sure I was not smuggling anything!
I laughed so hard when I left that place.
Me a drug smuggler!!!!

hi auntb , i noticed that donna was mia this morning too . i m so glad to have found daves garden because its like a plant loonie bin and i dont feel so weird about being in love with plants . i told dh they are like pets and he just rolled his eyes lol .i definitely get it from my mom . we had a late freeze a few years ago and my mom had nightmares . saying to someone" the plants didnt do any thing to you why are you hurting them" LOL

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

linda , that happens to me every time i go to the post office , lol dont tell dh but they are just flirting . its really annoying though .they always say hmm live plants are they legal ? and they always ask if i have them wrapped in wet paper towels so they dont dry up . i m like just shut up and print my label . id be nervous at border patrol , id be afraid some power hungry guard would confiscate .lol

Good morning everyone. I just finished my work shift and so need to be triplets right now. No sleep last night, we got news a friend of ours had a major stroke and it is not good. So, mixed emotions here.

Beautiful brug pix everyone! I've got to get busy and head South. Hopefully, the next time I talk with ya, Beck and I will be stirring up some trouble in TX. Yeah, right. Sitting and blabbing is more likely.... :) We've just got a whole lifetime to catch up on.

Everybody take care! Lov ya, Peg

Just got on and found the new thread. My pc was down most of the day yesterday, and will be down again for a while today. I’m now waiting for Verzion to come. I have not had to read yet. I see I have a lot to catch up on. I will try and get on later tonight.
Have a great day.

Cause I have a big white one off the side of my house...They have tiny flowers...

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello all. Thought you might like to see pictures of how my cuttings in Orchid Moss are doing. When dry, I re-moisten the moss with water with Super Thrive added. These have been misted daily with my version of "The Recipe". I'm very pleased with my success, all 20 cuttings look like this.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I have Dana..He's a good seller ☺

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

ok good , theres some on here with the same name and had a bad feedback .. i dont think its the same person though .
soooo karen .. whats your recipe . i have a rose recipe . im gonna tweak it this year . by adding molasses

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

This is the recipe I made up using the best elements of all the recipes in the recipe thread. They most all have the same ingredients and measurements anyway....

Karen's recipe: 6 TBS. per gallon (some people use 1 TBS. some use 1 cup per gallon, you really can't use too much as the ingredients won't hurt anything and they are so thinned out with the water)

2 cups water
1 12 oz. beer
1/2 cup ammonia
1 cup Epsom salts
3 TBS. Tea Tree Oil
1/4 cup unsulphered blackstrap molasses (available by the gallon for organic gardening for $10.00 at most farm stores or may use grocery store bought)
1/2 cup liquid kelp algae (available at any organic gardening center)
2 TBS. Miracle Grow or Bloom Booster (depending on whether you want growth or blooms)
15 drops SuperThrive
1/4 cup fish emulsion (not needed but I added it anyway)

Melt Epsom salts in the 2 cups water, warm. Add rest of the ingredients, stir well and store until needed. No refrigeration needed. Shake well before using.

I mix a batch in a seal-able container, then mix my 6 TBS. of mix to an empty gallon milk jug, fill with water, and shake. I then take the milk jug contents and pour it into a spray bottle to spray the cuttings with. Always shake mix well before using.

Sounds wonderful to me Karen. But no organic gardening store here,

I have so many errands to do and here I still sit. But it is so hard to get a shower and leave here. I need to stay off DG for a while I have some important things to take care of. But whaaaaaaaaaa I won't catch up.

ok bbl (sniffle sniffle)

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Yippy, I now have DSL. BBL to catch up. I'm playing with Aidan

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

thanks karen . what is the ammonia all about . that sounds scary to use . i did read the recipe thread a while ago . i saw that in almost all of them . i use water out of my fishtank lol .

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Sandy I live in a podunk town and even my feed store carries the molasses. You might try looking there, farmers use it on their crops

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I think you could find the "natural" ingredients at a local nursery, I've gotten the fish emulsion and kelp at Blackburns or Skinners, here.. they are both family owned, very established (my grammy sold hen and chicks to Blackburns when I was a wee child-----that was decades upon decades ago).. might call around instead of using gas to search.. the only thing I'm having trouble with is the unsulphurated molasses...I've even checked at Health food stores.. Karen I read somewhere that it has to be the "unprocessed molasses" not the kind we make cookies with.. The molasses helps the kelp and emulsion to breakdown further to a form the plants can immediately absorb as food.. ? just what I read (maybe somewhere on Kenboys thread?) Karen, I was working with your recipe this morning ;) So, how bout it? Meet me for Tex-Mex?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Ok I will look. ty

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

KAREN!!! Those look wonderful!!! Congrats, Girl! How long were they in there??? Great!

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

The ammonia is really the heart of the Recipe, being nitrogen...They like a fairly high nitrogen fertilizer. Maybe two weeks Bonnie?

Mercy ya'll threads move fast...I'm a slow poke today. Karen (and all) I will have both double yellows (course I guess it's "potluck" when seeds) and double/triple purple/white datura seeds to share once ripe.
Just an "add-on" from way back up the thread re Plumerias...I've not had any problems with them except much patience is needed for blooms. Two of mine bloomed for me this year...they do have a wonderful fragrance!!!

SANDY2, SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT UR BAD LUCK. ITS TOO BAD THAT U HAVE NEIGHBORS THAT IGNORE UR PREDICAMENT. WISH I WAS CLOSER TO U, WE WOULD HAVE THAT YARD CLEANED UP DARNED FAST. DON'T EVER GIVE UP. U HAVE A REASON FO LIVING , OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE TAKEN U TOO. IF U NEED A FEW BRUG CUTTINGS, LET ME KNOW, THEY WOULD B FREE, NOT EVEN ANY POSTAGE. DON'T KNOW U, BUT LOVE U ALREADY.

Heber Springs, AR

AUNTB, I GOT THE CHARLES G YESTERDAY. THE LEAVES LOOKED A LIL TOUGH BUT I POTTED IT AS SOON AS I GOT IT AND IT WAS STANDING PROUD THIS MORNING AS I CHECKED MY LIL HOT HOUSE.
IT ONE OF THOSE LITTLE HOUSES U CAN BUY TO KEEP TOOLS AND THINGS IN. I ADDED A FEW LIGHTS AND PUT MY PLANTS IN IT, THEY THINK ITS STILL SUMMER. I'M GONNA TAKE ABOUT 3 FOOT OF THE ROOF OFF ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TOP AND INSTALL WINDOWS, WITH THE SUNSHINE, I WILL NEED LITTLE HEAT.
I CAN'T TAKE THE ONE WITH SEED PODS INSIDE, ITS IN THE GROUND. JUST GONNA HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO POLINATE, LOL.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Clap, clap clap... Don't we just love Wolfie? Such a gentlman. Proud to have you in the H&H group, Wolfie (one of the FEW brave ones ;) Kim!! She's a real looker that one.. Elegant and dainty, almost fragile looking.... and how IS the smell? Phyllis, sure is a cute lil flyer you have in that cup... I'm gonna wait to start any seeds till after Christmas.. still so much to do to get things down for their "long winter nap" and I need to do LOTS of yard work IN the house ;). I'll get my Christmas decor put away and then I'll be MORE than ready to start the next growing season. Karen, I've been meaning to tell you what a beautiful pic you started this thread with.. (So, I guess I did good to grab a bite here for lunch ;) Had Sky King waiting on me for a thumbs up, so's I could make it down there in time for Tex-Mex...)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Darn, Wolfie.. not much you can do for it in the ground.. I'm sure you can learn to hand pollinate, just do like I did, collect the pollen on a small artists paintbrush and rub it everywhere inside the bloom on a different plant.. left no sticky-out-thingy untouched.. There are some threads on here about pollinating and probably more on the web. You are GENIOUS with that little tool shed... I don't have one, but often thought about buying (or bartering for) one and doing JUST what you are.. I just knew a handy-dandy person like yourself could take a few panels off the roof or sides and put plexiglass or something in it's place... Great!

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

hey hotties & hnadsomes I finally found you all !

I'm home ....been moving around most of themorning so think i needa nappy now :( pain meds are wearing off :(

just wanted to check in

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

(((AnjL))) Sorry they had to use a scalpel.. take it slow and ignore the broke-loose heck later on. lol Thanks for letting us know.. I'm glad part of it is over for you. check back when you can.
