Let's Talk Turkey

Well tell her to close that freezer door. BURRRRR!!!!!

I can remember seeing snow in Hollywood FL when I lived there. Everyone was freaking out.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - that's cold, Sandy. Stay warm!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I am trying. Had to do a rush job in covering up all me epi . My green/shade house is only a third down. We had snow one March. We usually do not get cold until Jan or Fed. It is 60 degrees out there right now. The crazy dog was out playing in his pool this morning

Beautiful pooch! How many orchids do you have?

Looks half chow half sheppard. What is it.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I have orchid cactus "epiphyllums" and I only have a few over 200!!! And that is not counting the 18+Christmas cactus. I have a big case of episities!!!!!!

Andre is a Belgian Tervuren. Or a demon child from h___l !!!!!

My gosh never heard of one of them. With the long hair he must love the cold weather.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Beautiful flower.

Beautiful dog.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Thank you.
Andre love the cold. Like my first 2 they are smart enough to stay in the a/c in the summer.
I say living with one is like living with a "mischievous, hyper active, intelligent 2 year ....who never grows up"

The flower is Epipyllum oxypetalum or the queen of the night. That bloom was taken at 11pm. darn flowers do not open fully until then and are closed before day light.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I assume that's because of nighttime pollinators? Too hot in the desert in the daytime!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Epi are jungle cactus. They grow up in trees. I believe they are proble pollinated by a bat.

I will pass on bats. Cant something else do it?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh okay. Same idea though - night pollinators. Where are they native?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Well it takes 7 years to grow a blooming size plant from seeds. It is a large flower. About 6-8 inches across. I like the day bloomers better, getting to old to sit up all night to watch a flower bloom.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Set the alarm!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

They come from South America and I then Central America

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I rather enjoy the day bloomer. Most of my new ones are bright colors and bloom during the day.

About that freezer door ... Celeste and I are working in tandem. She shuts hers. I open mine. We simply don't feel it's fair to hoard all the cold air up here!

Victor ... I laughed so hard I spit coffee!! eBay!! Really! (Not that I haven't considered it)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Darn I guess I will just have to come up there and lock those freezer doors. Let see what will I need. Heavy coat, gloves, hat, scarf, long johns, 2 no make that 3 pair of socks, and sky mask. Now where in the world would I find a place down here that sells that stuff???

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

eBay?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I get in enough trouble shopping on Amazon I stay away from e-bay. I bought a heavy jacket from Cabela's and the cold air cuts right through it.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm so sorry. I can't stand the cold either, so I really understand where you're coming from.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I am getting to the point that I can't stand the heat either. The problem with the cold down here is it never stays around long enough for us to get use to it.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

And I'll never understand why someone born and raised in New Hampshire, (me), is STILL LIVING HERE!!!!!

^_^

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I guess I was just lucky I was born and raised here in good old Florida--so was both my parents and one Grandmother.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't know Candyce, I would consider retiring to Vermont or New Hampshire!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Maybe one day I'll flit away down south to FL for the winter. Ah, dreams!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Yeah, Deb. I';m afraid you are right. I'd really miss the four seasons. Besides, I'm pretty used to it all now ... well, as long as I have enough wood to keep the woodstove burning! It's 27 degrees outside right now ... but 79 degrees inside. Can you say ... 'comfy'?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh boy another snowbird flitting down here. Vermont and Nw Hampshire are beautiful spent some time up there on summer. Would love to go back.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

You're welcome anytime!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

That's a little warm!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Out side is way to cold!!!! burrr

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Maybe the people in Nebraska left the freezer door open.
Celeste, I gotta hope not liking abandoning children is not controversial. Even on DG. well, I hope the kids will be better off.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Dave, I truely would only want what was best for the child. I just would like some time alone with parents. ^_^ Especially the 17 year olds.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I LOVE NH, but hubby hates the snow so I guess moving there is out. Not too fond of FL, my sis lives in Jacksonville and my oldest sis lived in Melbourne for what seems like forever, every year we went to visit. Then went to Bike Week in Daytona every year(before the kids came along last time in 2002).The humidity is just CRAZY down there. We went to Disney for our 1st anniver. since hubby had never been (first week in Sept) just standing in line the sweat was just pouring off me.
I think if we ever moved( I wish) it would be center of PA (around York) or Western VA. I really like the mountains, prob one reason I don't like FL too much, too flat.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I agree about Florida (and I have lived her my whole life) to flat and the humidity will kill you.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Same here Jen. FL is great for five months. I love the mts too. Thought about retiring in NC, but that's getting too popular now.
