A Brugs Life My Back Yard Monster Peach Versi

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

a poem to pass the time away, I posted it on another forum... I know the brugs are bubbling away, at least here they are, in the day.. this poem for my daughter Rose, who hard times she met along the path of young adulthood.. Oh well... Here is the Poem I wrote a few years ago dedicated to my Rose...she is really doing great.

10-30-1993

The day is gray and windy, and the maple says to the oak-

when the morning glory dies, then so shall I

The leaves they fall, blown into the wind-

crying out the summers' end. Shards of sunlight break thru the clouds-

giving hope of warmth to the shriveling shrouds.

The morning Glorys' blue trumpet still sings its' song--- good-bye my friend , but not for long.

winter comes slowly, but disappears fast--and then I can stretch and bloom at last.

and this for the next spring..
Dirt in my nails, dirt on my feet, the smell of new grass, so green and sweet. Cardinals whistling, finches fluttering around, was that a butterfly that flew past me?

Spots of purple and lilac and blue, white dabs and green dabs and pink ones too. whorls of yellow and orange and brown, tells me that Ms Spring is back in town.

Wait ..where did she go? She was gone this morning, is that snow? Oh please come back, we want you to stay. Wake up the morning with your warming way.

Here , have my seat, I'll go help for awhile, just give me the energy that makes my smile.

I will work hard and long into the day , like you I'll be shining my beautiful way. dirt in my nails ,dirt in my cuts and scratches not felt, dirt on my knees, and the back of my pants, you know I am working and loving my plants.

Come back Ms Spring , just for awhile, and then we can talk and share all the joys about the things that make us smile.

A long winter , has come and gone, opened up spring like a wakening bud.. I collected alot of brugs you see, the addiction had gotten me.. some made it thru and some did not, but going to sleep at night over came my thought.. what did I do wrong? How come Adeline died? what did I do to Butterfly? Why did Snowbank just sit there all winter bare and cold and suffering ? All those seeds and sticks and stubs, the water bubbler rootings and standards in the blue tubs,, I came running home from work everynight just to see, a nub, a sing of a leaf just for me..
I got some stardancer seeds that were crossed, wondering what they will do.. all my little children are rooted and growing, in the ground for all to see.. just an old gal from Kansas, used to petunias and pansys, fallen in love with the mysterious Brugs, and finally rewarded with a bloom.. I recieved a stick with a tag, the tag stayed on thank goodness. Monster white she took off right away.. in her little milk jug.. taken out in May when we knew it was warm, to the south fence under the Sweet Autumn .. sheltered from the suns' hot burning rays she was.. she gave me such joy when she bloomed..she waved in the breezes along with the windmill, a gift to me from Pauline.. I remember that dear woman everytime I go out to check on my beautiful brug, among the tomatoes, the salvia, the cone flowers, she takes control of the scene.. moved from a milk jug into a 3 gallon pot.. surrounded by begoinias in her base, she sways majestically in defiance of the blowing Kansas wind..

Deb, I just found this thread of yours, and I just want to say to you that you have written some transcendentally beautiful prose for a tired gardener's soul - thank you - I am enjoying it more than I can say.
