Doe41 there is a web site called life of an inflo that will explain it to you. I didn't know what that was until I read this site. Hope it helps you. I love plumeria too.
She's About To #25

One or ta other, James. One plant rule, says the gruff ole list keeper. Now if you get 20 of one plant I cannot do anything about that, but just choose one plant, please.
Peg.... did Beck lend you her wet noodles?? LOL
YAY!!!! Becky's back ^_^ Welcome Jeanne ^_^

James take the Brug and I'll send you some of Luc's Special Mix Plumeria seeds....
Weclome back Becky...Just in time to say Hi..catch up..Bye...LOL
Ok I will take a brug..........lol
Phyllis! IF everyone watches their language, we'd have no use for wet noodles.. ;)
DOE!!! CONGRATS! It's such an exciting time for you!
Cat, outta all these brugs I have, none are Whiskers
LOL Peg on the stray eyebrows... comes with maturing ;) I guess... I think your bud and the RU are in a race, now..
Tammie, seems like that's what you have to do to get something to bloom or bud or put on an inflo with your stubborn plants.. threaten them.. Inflo's are a new shoot coming off a plumeria... and they take 2-5 yrs to bloom from seed... (we have to wait and wait and wait-you'd think we'd get used to it)
Donna- I like that update and hope you feel better everyday..
BECKY! YAY! Welcome Home and Welcome back to your Hottie Home, too, glad your Momma is better..
I'm going to copy the BRUG WINTERIZING thing and work on editing some more..
Bonnie I've been wanting to ask you about your use of the 20-20-20 since several have mentioned it being the best for Brugs...I know it's hard to find now, but you mentioned sending someone's plant in a Miracle Grow 20-20-20 box...I didn't see any where I shopped. Scott's - Peters doesn't make it anymore either I don't think. I did however FINALLY find
Ferti-Lome Geranium, Hanging Basket and Pansy Soluble plant food 20-20-20...For use on all blooming and foliage plants - Promotes large blooms and deep green foliage, use every time you water.
Found it at a little independant nursery...Do you use this every day on your whole yard during the growing season, Brugs and other plants as well? I am NOT experienced in fertilize...Have always just used regular Miracle Grow for growth and then Super Bloom for blooms. BTW, Kenboy says that Brugs don't like the ingredient in Super Bloom products.
Karen, I haven't been able to find any 20-20-20 anywhere. I use Miracle Grow on everything in the yard, but I also plant everything with Osmacote. On the brugs, I use both but I also put a tree stake in the ground near them. I just started this year though, so I'm sure so one has better ideas. :))

to the hottie that wanted to see my...........morning glory bush, here it is, but it don't look that way now. lost most of its leaves and putting on seeds now.
happgarden, i need ur shipping address too.
AUNTB, this is a CURRENT picture of my royal blue. isn't she growing??
I will have to do this in parts and I will try to stay to the point and keep in mind I am in Zone 5 but this is how I've wintered over brugs before:
I've killed more brugs in winter by too much water, (root rot) than by not enough, I didn't water one at all one year and it still produced new spring shoots (it was established and in a 25 gal tub) I also clean my basement area and spray with ortho home defense or any good household bug spray....no matter how I over-winter BEFORE bringing anything in.
Dormant:
Bigger brugs with good dense root balls will winter over in a cool dark/dim place with virtually NO water and still put out shoots in early spring.. the optimum being water very sparingly every 4-6 weeks.. (I do it on holidays so I remember when I did water) This works if you whack the whole plant off (on well established brugs) or trim the leaves off and leave the stem/limbs..I spray what ever is left, even the stump and soil surface with neem/safer soap... there will probably be die-back of the stem so it can be chopped up for cuttings to use as a back up &/or for sharing. Louise has told us many times optimum temps for growing brugs is 40 degees at night and 85 during the day, but they will take more extreme temps on both ends of the thermometer. 32 will kill off top growth but there will still be regrowth from the roots.. I'm still experimenting to find a way to keep one in the ground over winter in my zone - will put a couple in the ground next spring and try the bubblewrap method next winter (like Tammie's doing in TX) one trying to keep some top growth and one just trying to get it to come back from the roots. We have days and days of 0 degree temps, so I'm not too hopeful I could save top growth but I will try with the Christmas lights.. and I'm still pondering on the technique I'll try to protect the root ball with mulch/lights/??.. (maybe a little space heater??lol, JK, not safe)
Semi-Dormant:
The attempt here is to keep them alive/green but not actively growing (until they wake up from their drowsiness in early spring) Basically the same environment as the dormant brugs only with a little more light and a little more water on the 4-6 week holiday watering schedule.. again, I trim all but the top leaves, leaving the stem and any major limbs, depending on how you are wanting your brug to grow, tree-like or bush with many stems.. you will have some limb/stem die back probably... I didn't try this way enough years to find an optimum to keep the stems green..
Growing in Winter:
This is my 2nd year at doing this and the major problem is pests: I still trim most of the leaves and clean off with the hose.. all growth, stems I even spray the tubs/pots down with the hose and get up under the rims of the pots in effort to get all bugs/bug nests and eggs that may be hiding there.. use the jet setting on your hose, even get a rag and wipe down the pot/under the rim. Then I spray every inch of the brug with Neem and even the top of the soil. I would like to "go green" but I just don't think it's possible but I haven't tried it, (I think Kenboy's Recipe could maybe work but I just can't bring myself to sacrifice brugs to try).. I use the Bayer for Roses 2 or 3 in one, which lasts 3 months, scratched and watered in.. this year I added Bayer Advanced 12-mo Tree & Shrub Insect Control to the regimen, (dosed them in July).. I'll reapply the 3 or 2 in one again during their winter retreat.
Brug Food-
Many growers have their own forumula as a fertilizer for brugs...
Mostly, I use 20-20-20, 2X a week, full strength in the growing season.. I always ween them on and off in Spring and Fall, by cutting back to 1X a week and then 1/2 strength to none by the time I'm bringing them in form dormancy or semi dormancy... for keeping them growing in winter, I will experiment this year with 1/4 strength maybe with every other watering. This summer I offered some 20-30-20 to the big ones I knew would bloom or had Y'd and could bloom. I really didn't notice a difference in blooms from years before. There is some discussion on the 20-30-20 not being good, but I will have to research that, more. In the growing season I offer them some Vitamin B1 (same as superthrive)and epsom salts as a treat a couple times.. then the Rose 3 or 2 and one also has fertilizer in it. We've discussed it's not easy to find the 20-20-20 but I did find the Fertilome Brand that says for hanging baskets and geraniums at a local nursery for $12 for a big jar, I'll look on it for the amount.. but I found a big box (4 small bags) of Miracle Grow brand at Ace Hardware for $9 and I thought the MG was a better deal, but you use less of the Fertilome per gallon of water, so that will take some calculating. Once I find a hose end sprayer with the amount of pressure I feel is comfortable for my brugs, I would like to experiment foliar feeding next year to see if there is a noticable difference from adding it to water and pouring on or... I mostly cheat; scattering it on the top of the soil and water in.. For the Miracle Grow I use 2-3 TBL for the 25 gal tub and a TBL for around 5 gal nursery pots and less for smaller pots.. (will work on this more... another time)
welcome home Becky.. glad u r back everyone missed u so much... thaks for the pic wolfie, the kansas mg bush looks way different, went to native kansas web site and it is wayyyyyy different, anyways, i feel your pain Peg, mine is driving me crazy! ( my brug out back) pic is as of this am reching for the sun...still in the ground..
Wow! Wolfie, look at the trunk on that lovely! Guess you read Debra is parting with some of her purple one, and I'm SO lucky to get a piece. But I'm still working on you for the blue, cause blue IS my fav color and blue eyes just melt me so I just love the way you are growing that beauty... and you keep posting those MG bushes and I'm still not giving in. (gotta run it's 5)
so far kens' recipe has not hurt my brugs or any of the other plants in and outside the house.
Deb how much of Ken's recipe are you using? He had upped it to 6 TBS per gallon so that's what I'm using...Some people are using 1 cup per gallon!

Hello Hotties!!

I will try to catch up, I think I need to read the thread while I sleep...hee hee
Thanks Louise, this time he really didn’t give me a choice and my track record for the past 12 months at has not been very good. This is my 3rd time out on TDI in the past 12 months. That’s why I stayed working when I pulled my back out; my attendance was already pretty bad. The company I work for will let things alone for the balance of my FMLA time and then they will lay me off.
Hi Lissa
Oh Donna that sucks. I hope you get it. Don't know the ins and outs of that. Prolly some day I will need to also. What with my neck and back and knee. You eating ok?

Dear Brug Friends,
Sorry I haven't posted for so long. Wow! D in DD does not mean Dear. Last weekend was supposed to be Chelsea's first weekend of taking responsibility for her baby after the court appearance on the 23rd. She had her for a couple of hours Friday evening and just like always, had some excuse to bring her back. She hasn't been back since.
I am sooooo tired and a depression has kicked in like I have not had for a very long time. So.....hugs to you all. My other poor babies, Kimmies brugs aren't looking so very good. I got them in Spahgnum Moss but I think they froze in shipping. Don't know for sure.
No frost yet here. Another Wow. Not one yet in Minnesota. I will have to take a picture of what I picked off the pepper plants today. And still getting gorgeous tomatoes. Happens maybe once every 20 years or so. God must have known I needed this, this year. Well. The Billy is getting the baby on Friday. Maybe then I can get back to my old self.
Love ya!
Sandra D

Hugs Sandra and Becky we missed your funny posts! So glad you are back! The pig planter was in some stuff that Bonnie gave for the round up and it is only like three inches tall or so. LOL

Donna glad your getting better...
Wow ...don't think we are getting frost for one more week.
I don't think we'll get any frost soon! 86* is NOT conducive to frost!!
Hey everyone! Becky, SO glad your momma is doing fine and you too. Get some good sleep before the packing for the RU, LOL! I'm so glad Jeanne joined us here and we'll get to meet her too. Sandra hon, I'm sorry that things weren't that great with Chelsea....I guess you'll have to do what my sourpuss uncle said once.."expect the worst and you'll never be dissappointed", LOL!
Donna bless your heart I hope you are feeling good tonight! I worry about you.....I'm sure your disability will go through with colors...Phyllis I'll bet your right! Posy is probably in her teepee snuggled up in a blanket and drinking cocoa! I wish I had a little "nest" like that that I could hide away in.....
Oh hotties forgot to tell you the big news. A gunman took over our little pharmacy in town yesterday! Four 1/2 hour standoff and he wanted drugs. they finally arrested him..he let everyone go that was in the pharmacy. It was BIG news in our little town!!! I was down the street at work when it started! 2 blocks away!
